"Maybe the first time that I'm having to sacrifice a big goal for someone else" That, dear Eva, is the ultimate achievement. Well done. ❤
My exact thoughts -- very well said. It was a huge victory for Eva -- just one she was not expecting.
She doesn’t deserve that dog. She is an animal abuser and used that dog as a scapegoat to quit the race she was never prepared for. You people are saps.
💗
When Eva said that I remembered 2 videos Eva made about choosing not to have kids. Well, I think this experience shows that one can learn responsibility, and sacrifice, and care, and love interacting with any living beings, whether they are animals, little or big people)
this is winning.. this is the achievement.. you were in it together and we leave together..such a hard call and I cried when you were realizing that you needed to give up your goal for the love of Vilk. sadness and disappointment yes. will you ever regret it. .nope .. you done good
I am just another stranger from the internet, you don't know me. However, if its any comfort to know that strangers from the internet are proud of you, count me as one of them. Wonderful job of taking care of Vilk, and yourself. You're an inspiration.
ditto
Yeah, this. I resisted saying I was proud of her because why would a stranger be proud of her, but that is what I felt. Instead, I told her I loved her. Also true.
I am proud of Vilk. He did real good.

Love watching your content. Your adventures are next level! Vilk is one lucky pup to have such a caring and responsible owner/best friend.
😊
Right at the 32 minute mark in the video, I literally winced at one of the camera shots with Vilk’s limp. Even though he turned out to be okay, who knows what would have happened if he had kept going. Right? After 30 years of outdoor adventures with dogs, I’ve learned they almost never quit. You’re the pack leader and they don’t want to let you down, so need you to make the call for them. You did the right thing.
Thank you for putting Vilk's safety first above everything else. You are a WINNER by doing that. You don't even have to finish the race. RESPECT 🙏
It's better if Eva puts her safety before Vilk's as if she didn't put her safety first and something does go wrong with Eva, she may not be able to help Vilk. ....It is pretty standard in any kind of survival situation for the person in charge to make sure they are safe first.
Don't worry, races and finish lines are just a concept and keeping your dog safe makes you a winner :)
Well said! 😊
That one sides of you compassion and kindness already won before finishing the race - it's a tough decision, my respect EvaVilk tandem!!!
100%
In the military when you are hiking with your dog they are trained to hop on top of your backpack to take rests. Maybe train him over the next year to be pulled on the sled, that way you can give him the break he might need but still allow you to make time. Great decision on calling the race. Proud of you both.
The love and companionship of a good dog is priceless.
My dog and I had been working on climbing all 48 of the 4000 footers in NH, USA together when she injured her knee playing fetch at home on flat ground at sea level. I ended up taking a year off with her from this to get her surgery and do the recovery and physical therapy. I've turned back on many a hike because she wasn't having fun because she was cold or sore or it wasn't safe for her with the weather conditions even though I was fine and WANTED to summit. Their health and safety is always paramount. Every hike we do I end up carrying many pounds of extra weight in safety gear and food for her and it's worth it. The joy she feels on backpacking trips is absolutely worth all the effort it takes to bring her and prepare both of us to do it safely.
"%100 his well being is so much more important than whatever ego or pride I may have" this sentence shows how committed you are to Vilk. He is lucky to have you!
Because of their extreme energy plus work ethic kicking in GSD are problematic in youth but once they begin to settle into your stewardship and regimen then their great intelligence and incomparable loyalty forges a kind of partnership that you'll never forget.
slightly annoyed to see this video, because on the video she announced the trip I saw so many comments saying this exact thing would be a problem
@@moonasha Dude, it should never be about the end goal, but the journey itself. So you being "slightly annoyed" says more about you than this adventure Eva and Vilk.
@@moonashaShe knew not to take the dog. Anything for clicks.
@@Lord_RFASsimp. She was told many times not to put the dog in that situation. He is a prop for her.
Absolutely the right call. I witnessed a GSD pass away on a hiking trail. Always remember they will push themselves thro extraordinary pain to follow you. Love you for putting him first. There are always other races but only 1 Vilk.
I'm proud of you. To do what you did with a dog, with all the extra weight, filming it for us at the same time, 100 km in winter above the Arctic Circle! Wow. And you sacrificed for your little friend. Kudos to you, Eva zu. And thank you.
In my book, you met your goal. You are so conditioned for this type of hike, no doubt you had it in the bag. Your little baby had fun and I think he was as disappointed as you were to end the adventure. I am happy you took such wonderful care of Vilk and put him first ❤️ You are a good mom.
Vilk is a trooper, and never doubt that you did the right thing. And I'm a vet of 48 years.

a vet? of which war? i am a newborn for 43 years...
The brave part is to know when to, and have the courage to pull out of a competition - my experience when racing sail boats!
...as hard as that decision can be, I'm sure, for anyone who enjoys a bit of competition.
@@evazubeck Competition involves comparing your character and performance to that of others, which, in the final analysis, is unimportant. Your stellar character and performance stand on their own!
Congratulations, Eva, for joining the race though you didn't finish. For Vilk's safety , health, and care you've already finished the race.. good job.. and thank you for the wonderful video you share...
The easy and right decision can still stink and be disappointing. We can still cry while having no regrets about our choice. I have LOVED every second of this Arctic journey and am in awe of how well you adjusted to the cold. I look forward watching you complete this race in the future! Vielk looked like he had an absolute blast on the trail and is so lucky to have a human who takes him on these adventures. His happy prancing tickles my heart 🥰
I like that you wont cut out parts where you dont feel comfortable, you show them as the challenge bites into you and you can see that on your face as it changes expresions. I like those differences when you are happy, tired and exhausted. It make the experience for us viewers more real and relatable. You and Vilk are great adventurers. Keep on going 💪
Eva, I’m so impressed with how you (and Vilk) are so motivated. You are so adventurous and brave. I truly enjoy watching all of your adventures and have done so for a few years. I wish you (and Vilk) all the best. I admire you and your fortitude. Best, Rich
You're so kind, thanks Rich!
@@evazubeckBoth you and your dog are incredible. I’m sorry that you guys ran into trouble, but so pleased that you prioritized well-being. I KNOW part of you thought that he’d be fine were you to continue alone, but I think you honored him by staying by his side. Perhaps he is also a deterrent to wolves? Just because they’re more formidable in ability and numbers doesn’t mean they’re cavalier per being injured.
When you first got Vilk, I didn’t know that he’d be able to keep up with you to the extent that he has. That he has the energy to play around in the course of such a trek blows me away.
I appreciate that you two are inspiring others in a positive way. The world benefits from your efforts and trade. There are many who contribute in harmful ways and I’ve spent decades studying atrocities and tragedies, as I’m drawn to understand how and why some are capable of doing such damage to lives and property. So I am also drawn to respites and your videos are infectiously pleasant and interesting.
I’ve seen enough of your content to know where you stand on faith in God and, though I think it would make you just about perfect, free will is due plenty of respect. I’m so glad that you continue taking on challenges and that you’re doing so with a special companion, the POOCH!
Anyway, your talent at the various aspects of video making has always been impressive and continues to improve. I call you The Content Master, pronounced “mastaaaaah!”
Ok ok lol take care, Eva ❤
So stunning and brave, I bet she would be just as brave on a battlefield in war.
Best decision was to get Vilk out of there. My wife and I had made a long drive to make a long hike to a lake. We were more than half the distance to our destination when the two dogs were showing signs of sore paws. They quit walking to keep up, and would stop and lie down. Upon inspection we discovered they had developed blisters that ruptured on their paws. This was after having taken numerous walks on concrete and asphalt. So we cut up our gear bags and used my wife's hair bands to make shoes for them; which we had to periodically had to stop and reposition/fit. Because we couldn't carry two 80 to 100 pound dogs for miles, with our backpacks, and it worked. We returned another time, in another year, and the dogs each had their own set of Vibram-soled hiking boots and we all completed the hike.
Aww I love that you prioritised your pups' wellbeing - indeed you can always come back!
💓
@@evazubeck Of course...it's what you do in return for their unconditional love; show them it goes both ways. You both will be back out there as well, I'm sure.♥
@@evazubeck even when you come back next year and complete the hike, that feeling of hunger you spoke about never goes away.
Such an amazing video , I’m glad to hear Vilk is fine
I’m proud of you! As someone who runs with their dog, I understand having your best friend along is special but also stressful. I’m glad that he is ok and you pulled him out when you saw his discomfort.
Love is unselfish. You put your best friend first and in doing so you 100% did the right thing! You guys did great 👏👏👏👏👏
Well, you said at the beginning that your first two priorities were Vilk, so you achieved that goal. So sorry you weren't able to finish. I think your tears were as much for Vilk as for yourself. Keep on trying and thank you for bringing us along your journey.
Thanks for that
I big respect to you Eva.. Vilk was your priority as you stated from the beginning. You and Vilk had an incredible journey as it is no matter you are finished to race or not.

Great video & its a joy to watch the relationship you both have.....i love that you still attempt & achieve the most incredible goals and adventures. You are living life to the full.....its awesome 😎❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for this video. I had a german shepherd for 10 years and she passed away recently. I was lucky enough to be able to go on a lot of wild adventures with her. Just the two of us on a car through Europe's best nature spots, hiking, camping... living our best lives. She was also my best friend. Now that she is gone, I am living through you and Vilk. He's such a lucky doggo to have you as a mom. If he could speak I'm sure he would tell everyone how much he loves you and appreciates your adventures together. It's amazing to see how committed you are to him and his wellbeing. The best gift you can give a dog is being present and keeping them company. I wish you many, many years of wonderful adventures with Vilk by your side xx
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Hearing the wolves howling was awesome. You two 100 k in harsh winter conditions and came through healthy. That is a win⭐️
Have been watching your videos for over a year since I discovered your channel, and every time I admire you more and more. You are a super human! ❤ So many people dream about such life, but so few have the guts!
What a beautiful soul you are! You WON my heart when you put Vilk's well being first.
My wife and I are so proud of you and vilk, we also love that you took Vilk's health into consideration when you left the race. It is not the destination that is important it is the trip. We hope you and vilk will be able to make this run again next year.
good luck to the two of you on future adventurers and God Bless.
Thanks for that!
Vilk's life is irreplacable!❣️
Powerful lesson Eva. Letting go of something important for someone you truly love is hard but worth keeping him safe.
So True.
Indeed. I dedicated my life to someone I loved. We were together for 52 years. Good times, bad times and the end of times. Now to stay alive and enjoy for as long as I can.
Hi Greg, don't know you but I am sharing a similar experience. We were together for 50 years and now over the last 3 months I am reassessing my life. Decided to retire, sell everything I own and start travelling to find my new solo journey . Wishing you all the best. Life is good- just different.
I admire your courage and your eager to put yourself through tough challenges. It is truly a doorway to freedom!
This made me cry. I look forward to your next race or just the next video. Thank you for sharing this with all of us!
You made the right decision 100%. Vilk is honestly the goodest boy ever. I hope he got more than his share of belly rubs and cuddles
Of course, he does every day!
Vilk is so worth taking care of him. He is part of you now, and you should not be sad but proud! You two did an amazing trip.
This is one of your best videos. I got teary-eyed at you and vilk riding away in the rescue cart. You two look so cute sitting back there. When he was barking it's almost like he was saying thank you for getting us help. For those of us who don't have kids or maybe aren't the best in relationships, these bonds with our dogs prove that we are willing to do whatever it takes for another being who we love. ❤🐾
I understand your frustration and sadness, but you absolutely did the right thing. I am sure you will have another opportunity to run this race.
Agreed
As you said, "Number 1 priority is Vilk. Number 2 priority is Vilk." You made the right decision. Don't be sad. 62 miles is quite an accomplishment for both of you. Wish I could have given you a big hug as you were talking about your decision to withdraw for Vilk's sake.
Dearest Eva and Vilk, Very smart to pull out of the race given Vilk's paw discomfort! YOu both still had an amazing adventure and thanks for sharing your journies with us. Seeing Vilks devotion to you Eva and yours to him is incredibly heartwarming! Much love! 💖 🐾 🙏🏼

I loved it when you called Vilk your "best friend". You are truly amazing! And Vilk is awesome!
Very emotional vlog this is. Kudos to your mental resilience towards decision making. It's not easy what you did mentally and physically during the course of this marathon. More love to Vilk.

@@evazubeck Well don't get too hungry. I would hate to have to see your reaction to showing up at the start line and realizing that you accidently signed up for the 300k race. 😁👍

For an artic trip you need an artic dog not a pampered German shepherd puppy.
Nothing to regret, either you or your pal. I'm SO impressed with your tenacity. I loved the site of you both in the sledge, travelling behind, Vilk was so excited. You are such an inspiration young lady. There will be another time I'm sure. You did the right thing to put your best friend first, too precious to risk a major injury.

It's actually very comforting to see, that it is completely okay not to finish such thing, and that it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. This video wasn't about perforamance or goals, it was about life as it is. Thank you very much. and it was very inspiring to see the whole journey.
I love that you put him first! You are such a wonderful person!
That marathon is a real challenge! You did very well. As you and Vilk are a team, I thin k your decision to stop was the right one. 😎
I love how you handled this situation! Such grace, strength, and responsibility. Its easy to just not go at all, its "easy" to forge on when you already have that fire burning inside you to complete the race. Its so incredibly hard to be between those extremes. But, at the same time, this is what is most inspirational...because its relatable and obtainable. Seeing the imperfections of life play out in hard situations and not giving up, but knowing when to stop, is realistic without letting it be confining.
Fantastic videos Thanks to both of you!
