- Jeff dives in for a review and page-through of the core rules for Symbaroum, from Free League Publishing. The game, written by Mattias Johnsson and Mattias Lilja with artwork provided by Martin Grip and Johan Nohr, is relatively rules light and set in a dark - but not a grimdark - fantasy setting. The 264 page hardcover is avilable for $49.99 or grab the PDF at DriveThruRPG for $24.99. Is this roleplaying game a perfect choice for those looking for a dark, fairy tale setting? Or should you close the book on even considering adding Symbaroum to your collection? You'll find out!

I am waiting for this to arrive. Thank you for the excellent video.
Great review, this has been our go to-fantasy setting.
I do however believe that the text informed the art, not the other way around as you speculated!
The archetypes only offer a suggestion and do not fix those attributes or abilities and races. That's why it such an awesome customization for a game.
Good review.
I’m personally digging this more than Dragonbane.
I love this system as well!
Definitely recommend everyone to give it a go, and agree that the supplements are sort of "needed" to fill in a lot of your questions.- Though that is common in rpgs that have extended option (d&d, et. al.)
Thanks for the Look!
You bet!
I'm shocked by the low amount of weapons.
No spear ?
No dagger ?
No short bow, recurve, composite ?
No morning star ?
Etc.
These adventure books are a nice read but when I look around to see no friends interested, it's always such a letdown. The idea of playing and exploring the world is nice. Reality is different.
I am quite curious regarding forbidden lands and symbaroum... but I was considering that learning 2 systems is more work than fun! Perhaps now that they are adapting symbaroum to 5e its better to wait it out. What is your opinion on the 5e version?
I have not seen it since it just wrapped its Kickstarter run. Stay tuned though! ~ Jeff
@@Thegaminggang this gives me time to explore forbidden lands ahah... thanks! Love your work!
@@blamp666 I have played them both and forbidden lands has a lot more to offer but symbaroum is still great I'm not knocking it
@@schwarzesonne6529 going for both of them!... Thank you my friend!
