From North are a new Swedish viking metal band founded in 2016 in Varberg, Sweden. The music is a mixture of songs with heavy riffs to unadorned songs, with texts taken from the norse mythology consisting of gods, vikings and other beings.

Growling/extreme vocals is a kind of distorted singing which admittedly can be bracing when applied in small doses, but numbing when the whole song or cd is nothing but extended orkish gibberish. Where's the heroic warrior who can slay or at least contest with the beasts? Has he been captured and pressed into the service of subhumans? I want to be inspired by viking anthems not battered senseless by tuneless trolls. Too many of our young and not so young bands have fallen for the growling gimmick.
