  • In today's video, we tackle replacing the upper ball joints on my 2017 Ram 1500. With the help of 1A Auto's factory-style replacement upper control arm, with removing just three bolts/nuts, I was able to swap out my junk ball joints with entirely new upper control arms, for under $100 for the pair.
Although my truck is lifted, this 6" Fabtech suspension lift for 2013-2018 Ram 1500 uses factory upper control arms/ball joints, so I was able to do a quick swaparoo. If I'm not mistaken, this replacement should apply for all factory Ram 1500s 2011-2018 (4th gen).
I hope this video saves some of y'all some time and money. If you enjoyed, leave a thumbs up/comment and subscribe for more projects & restorations.

So to seat ur upper suspension ball joint u have to jack up the wheel until it just comes of the axle stands then you tighten the control arm and tighten the bolt. To me it doesn't look seated but 🤷🏿‍♂️..

Why not upgrade the Uca? Also supposed to tighten the uca so that it stays level before you attach it to the spindle then you fully torque it to spec

I saw no need to upgrade for my application. I couldn’t justify paying $300 or more for Rough Country or another similar brand when these did me well for 100k miles, especially when I knew the fitment would be no question.
Yes, the boots blew from Alaska temps and me improperly a needle greaser about 50k miles ago, but upper ball joints were still in great shape with almost no play.
I did get the upper two bolts tight before attaching to spindle, just not torqued - should I be torquing them before attaching to the spindle?
I was always taught to torque when vehicle is under its own weight. Thanks!

@@backcountrybuilds didnt think stock uca worked well with a lift. Good to know

Yeah get them tight so the uca sits level then pry it down to attach the ball joint. Then when its under its own weight torque them. Great video, love watching ram content

@@johnsn10 25k miles on stock UCAs with 7" maxtrac lift and 37s .... so far no issues, but no off-roading .... stocks are fine with 4"s of lift or less ... I am going to upgrade to the core 4x4 UCAs soon but no need to upgrade if you don't offroad

@@diaz4664 you’ll need at least 1/4” wheel shims. I chose to instead run 1-1/2” hub centric wheel spacer/adapters.
