Barry was constantly worried about his perception. For whatever reason, Brent didn’t want to be considered a “gunner” like his father. He reigned in his game essentially to co-exist with his teammates. Rick Barry was almost universally despised by his peers and maybe Brent wanted to ensure that he wasn’t a lightning rod for contempt.
