  • This song was written by the late Hajie Abdullah Maged in the 80s about a small town called Manenberg. Its a traditional comic medley of songs put together which is performed by a lead singer and the choir. This song is led by Roshin Isaacs and in typical Cape Malay style, he is singing with excitement and joy. The song has a Ghoema beat which is unique to this culture and the instruments used is the Banjo, Guitar and a Ghoema known to locals as a Gummy. A Ghoema is a drum which was brought to the Cape from the slaves who came over with the Dutch East Company ships. These slaves were known to be good woodworkers and those who loved the authentic music took an old wine van, removed the top and bottom rims, stuck some well tightened buck skin to the top which gave the sound which resonates today still through the streets of Cape Town and is used to keep the rhythm and the beat of songs.
It is tradition in Cape Town that Malay choirs take to the streets in a special uniform and perform traditional songs at the homes of family and supporters from sunset until early hours of the New Year morning. The choir is also celebrating its 55th anniversary which is why we draped in the club colours and also have the name in Gold symbolising the achievement against the backdrop of so many challengers over last 20 years. The song is performed in Afrikaans language.
