In the first series the cast battled gamely with awful scripts. (I adore Nicola Pagett and watched only to see her.) It remains to be seen whether the material improves in series 2 - but the absence of the mind-numbingly stupid canned laughter from series 1 is a big step in the right direction.
Yes, a different actress, but the character seemed to change completely. Whereas the series 1 Melissa seemed to be a bit of a cold drip, the series 2 Melissa was a much warmer and more playful lass altogether, and far more appealing.
@james vickers...me neither, all his stuff is purile middle class piffle....Even Summer wine was crap, they had the northern accent...but not the northern humour
I originally just uploaded them very quickly, its never been brought up until now, not sure if they can be added retrospectively but I'll have a look into it.
I think the Sonia really fancy Clive but just pretend she does not and wants revenge. You do not spend that much time with someone else just because you found your husband is cheating.. Nicola Piget is very sexy when she gets angry.
New wife, and that's a relief. Though I admit freely that the wife was a bloodless, soulless character to have to play in the first series. I also wasn't really comfortable with the mockery of what was apparently a type of mental illness.
qhsperson actress playing wife in 1st series sure was poor. felt karen drury was more flighty and was more convinceing as a cheating wife. guy playing brians mate merv was also a good laugh
That may be true - but Leslie's career has soared since she was on this series - for example, see her as Daniel Day Lewis's sister in Phantom Thread - she's nominated for an Oscar.
The laughter wasn't canned. All interior scenes were filmed in front of a live studio audience and the exterior scenes played to the same audience in sequence and their reaction captured 🙂
The man is good and so is the secretary. I have to admit the new wife is an improvement. Hopefully, next season, they’ll replace the heavily made-up elderly woman who is apparently cast as a 28 year old bombshell.
@@PeaveyPV20 He was talking about Melissa when he said “the new wife”, & I do not agreed w him. By heavily made up woman, he means his wife’s would be lover’s wife. She may be abit older than written for, but she is a v good actress & v sexy. So why complain about her? She & Peter Davison are the true stars, altho’ I LOVED Lesley Manville & miss her.
This is a bit strange it's a different wife and she's far too old for her mother to be mentioning kids she's past it . And no wonder his pa desperate her husband a dirty weirdo
He hasn't even noticed that his Melissa is an entirely different woman 🤣
I liked Lesley Manville as Melissa.
Yes.

Finally! Something started HAPPENING on this show. Thanks for uploading!

You are right.
Thankyou
So much better without the laughter background. Alot of comedys now dont have laughter and it works 👍
A different actress is cast as Clive's wife in this second series.

June had to go home with a Headache.
Well she's got the Space for it.
I'm a Deeply Shallow Person, Mrs Whales.
Thanks for uploading it! Is it just an impression or the storyline did improve from Series 1 to 2?
It became more consistent definitely, last 2 episodes will be up shortly.
AmarokingTelly of a
Yes, it did.
I've never understood why Roy Clarke has such a big reputation.
@james vickers...me neither, all his stuff is purile middle class piffle....Even Summer wine was crap, they had the northern accent...but not the northern humour
Goodness I disagree though not his finest this one but watchable..
@@annehathaway2107 fair enough, but don't you think it's the same gag every week?
AKA Ronnie Barker
Second series is better.
Where are the subtitles?
I originally just uploaded them very quickly, its never been brought up until now, not sure if they can be added retrospectively but I'll have a look into it.
Not available.

Why did they replace Melissa with Patricia Farnham from Brookside. Lesley Manville was so much better.
Entertaining series but the music is annoying

but she is not as funny

I'm glad it's a new wife that other one was was so dreary to watch 😁

Yes.
I hope Sonja and Clive hook up
This show is sad. That poor repressed woman who even get used by her psychiatrist.
At least the canned laughter in the first series made you think this was funny.......but thanks for the upload

I stand corrected..
@@nodgelyobo1 I was always unsure how sitcoms worked until I went to a recording. It's just like watching it on TV, except for retakes etc. Very odd
@@davidC1984 What did you see recorded?
Totally lost the plot...different actors do not work......disaster.

Unfortunately they was only two series of this show.
the main leading man is Peter davison the fifth doctor
Elderley woman, karen drury (melissa) was only in her 30s when this was made

Just two series.
Not one of Roy Clarke's best efforts..
