Hi there! I'm Rosie and today I am attempting to create a tunnel book out of a used bird field guide book. I saw some of these tunnel books on Instagram and I needed to try to make one for myself! Watch as I create a 3D scene within the pages of a book.

Creating a handmade custom DIY surreal art collage is easy! I share my tips and techniques on how I create my analog collages as I cut out pictures and illustrations out by hand with a small pair of scissors and a craft knife. Finding inspiration from old books is one of the most fun steps to this process. These can come from used books, encyclopedias, magazines, vintage postcards, or anything else you can find lying around your house. I find most of my books and magazines from thrift stores, antique stores, flea markets, Craigslist, or even on the side of the road! Watch as I arrange my elements and try different ideas as I talk through my process to create my final design.
Collages made out of paper have a custom made feel that you can't get from a digital collage made in Photoshop. And, there is an added challenge of only being able to use materials that you have access to!

I am a book lover and lover of field guides. most books aren't rare or valuable or wanted. so many books end up in land fills every year bc they are damaged or unwanted. I wish more artists took advantage of these unwanted books.

Congrats on 10K! This wonderful book tunnel has definitely inspired me to make my own. It reminds me of those old shoebox dioramas we used to make when kids, although upgraded for adults.
This is a great way to take a bunch of great ideas and put them into dialogue without having to worry about having to make sense because the more complicated the words and ideas get, the more you can cut them out of the dialogue and paste in whatever seems right or interesting.

This is an interesting way to collage. I love the fact that she's bringing something new to the genre and you're idea to do a bird tunnel in the bird book is both cute and clever. Major props for giving her credit.
My brain needs more defined layers, or less visually cluttered layers, so I want to try painting each layer so the image stands out from the writing. Maybe a gradient from front to back?
PS A collage artist is a real artist. Many amazing painters can't draw well, many renowned illustrators can't paint well, many sculptors can't paint or draw well, and the list goes on. Don't even get me started on photographers. 😂 It's ok to just be great at the type of art you love to do. You're still included in the "real artist" category if your drawing skills suck.

I wonder if you’ll make others now that you have the hang of it. All those offcuts are ephemera for the next journal you make. I hope you kept them. I was fussy-cutting pages from a book last night and was thinking you inspired me. Tho I must confess I sliced my thumb with my Cutter Bee scissors. Never felt it until I noticed something sticky on my thumb. Our tools are out to get us! The struggle is real! Well, don’t be a stranger. 10,000 of us love you, and that’s a very good number for a crafty channel. Never try to compete with videos of puppies and kittens.

What if you use the piece of the front cover ( not to waste it) and turn it into a "door" with miniature hinges and a little door knob? Surely a tunnel can have a door?

One tip: Once you like your design of where you placed your elements, take a picture with your phone for reference. This way when the paper elements move, and they will, you can just look at the photo if you need to.
