that's legitimately one of the problems with adoption of raytracing, we got REALLY good at faking it with rasterization that the overall visual differences aren't as stark as you might hope. that said, as good as HL2's water reflections are, they still have some of the really severe caveats that raster reflections have e.g. disappearing when the reflected object is off screen.
Having used TV as screen for last 7 years or so, i'll never forget getting my first 40 inch 1080 HD tv to use as a screen for my laptop. It was like a whole new GPU. And when that cheap brand TV died and i went to a 43 inch Sony 4k TV .. was like night and day again. (make sure you get a high refresh rate panel as a large number of 4k tv will only do 60Hz)
When I got a 4K TV, I had to play through all the classic games again. It's so satisfying to max out games, and at 4K anything can look pretty good. F.E.A.R. was a notable highlight of surprising me with it's graphics, feeling almost modern in some ways.
Lllliiiinooooooode! 😅 It feels soooo goood!..... I may have contacted their advertising and marketing team and said "Please sir can I have some more Dawid" like a little orphan child.
G'day Dawid & Anna, I got a LG 55" C1 4K for Xmas 2020 & bought an RCA to HDMI Adapter to connect my PS2 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, Like Anna said it is amazing how Life Size everything becomes on a Tv this size, I have not bothered to check whether the output is 480i(NTSC) and 576i(PAL) but because the PS2 Doesn't have upscaling like PS3 & PS4 when I play Buzz Jr. Jungle Party with my niece & nephews it is HUGE! 😂
Half Life 2 did look stunningly real to me back in 2004 on a 1024x768 crt display. I just need an 8k display to recreate that video game bliss. Thanks for the tip!
Well, a considerable drop in frame rate going from 4k to 8k is not exactly surprising. Most people misunderstand and think that 8k is simply double the pixels of 4k, but it's not (as you mentioned earlier). So you essentially have about 16x as much data that must be processed in 8k mode versus 1080p and about 4x as much as data to be processed over 4k mode (1080p is about 2MP, 4k is about 8MP, and 8k is about 33MP if you put this into megapixel terms). The other thing is that GTA V was likely not written with 8k displays at the time (most likely for 1080p and 4k) so the video card most likely has to do some extra work "upscaling" the game to 8k at the same time. The size of GTA V and the amount of AI (over other games, like Counter Strike) is also probably quite high, even though GTA V is about 7 years old now. At the time, it was a pretty large and demanding game (and depending on who you ask, it may still be).
Same equivalent version for UK and Irish market in Ireland costs around 2.5k Euros converts to roughly 3.4k Canadian Dollars .... wicked 👍 great bargain Dawid what a deal 👍
I secured one of these when they came out and it's absolutely amazing, just don't expect it to run everything maxed out. But: it's almost dead silent, it doesnt need a power cable and has low consumption and is also really small, compared to the huge bricks GPUs got until today. I'm building a super flat desktop case right now out of aluminium and a flex atx psu and cant wait to put it in my desk, with this card in it.
This was so wholesome by the end that I'm giggling haha. I think it does say a lot about how old games are still very much enjoyable nowadays, albeit with crazy high resolutions. Half Life 2 at 8k with a native 8k texture pack.... Hmm

Dawid thinks we come to watch his videos, and that Linode is just a fan favorite sponsor. It's really us coming to see Linode and Dawid is a fan favorite sponsoree
No idea why, I was fully expecting Linode as the sponsor, and I still almost spit my drink on the keyboard. That's the power of Dawid! Also, the ridiculous high resolution in old games has been one of my favourite things to do since I got a 4K TV. Using Nvidia DSR to render games at 8K on it is both ridiculous and satisfying as hell. I've been trying it on slightly newer-ish games since I finally got my hands on a 3080 for a reasonable price recently. There's only the slight pain of modifying the registry so it stops trying to use 4096x2160 as the base resolution for the DSR.
@Dawid The problem here is not actually the GPU - which logically would struggle a bit - however - the main issue here is the memory. There is simply not enough of it to keep "high detail" (not talking settings here - but more "modern" textures - if that makes any sense) 8K textures in the frame buffer. The reason why it goes all poopy in GTA V at 8K is actually just that - waiting for textures being fetched from the SSD or system memory rather than the onboard memory. Also - the memory might actually not be 100% on your card seeing how that crash happened in CS:GO. That looked kinda iffy!

We learned learned 2 things from this video: 8k is great for some old games.. AND Anna likes it BIG and lifelike.. 🤔😁
ey yo
Hahaha who doesn’t?
I would have never guessed that the RX 6400 would do so well at 8K!! Makes me think I need a better monitor for my 6700XT. LMAO!!
Thanks for another awesomesauce video Anna and Dawid. (Come on we know Anna is the star and Dawid just does the heavy lifting in the background. ;)
This did not go how I’d pictured it in my head when I read the title - channel premise justified! Good job. 👍
Anna casually lifts the TV: *Silence*
Dawid: *Moaning*
Lmaooooo
Ive never bothered with 4k when it came out years ago. It did not seem like a big jump from HD but now this 8k may well be worth getting in the future.
As someone who has a high end pc that can run 4k at high refresh, there are times when it can make a huge difference, you can in essence see things that are twice as far away.
@@Acedemonlord not about looking at things far away I just didnt like the way it looked. Whats the point of seeing things far away if it doesnt look good. maybe because it was early in 4k adoption but it was not impressive but now with graphics catching up to the display in games such as forza 5 then I think it will be worth it
@@clark85 some games, like hell let loose, or battlefield being able to see at a grater distance makes a huge difference the problem is, when 4k came out only dual cards could handle it now single cards can, however 1440p gives you a good compromise between the both fps and increased res
@@Acedemonlord yes yes Ive played battlefield of course and 2042 is horrible i hope youre not counting that game but thats beside the point. I played tons of fps games I dont need 4k not now and especially if I dont like the way it looks. When all games look like forza I will be much happier with it.
interesting how 8k on half life 2 the water reflections look just as good as ray traced reflection we have now from a game from 2003
source engine water don't fuck around it's legitimately so fuckin pretty
that's legitimately one of the problems with adoption of raytracing, we got REALLY good at faking it with rasterization that the overall visual differences aren't as stark as you might hope.
that said, as good as HL2's water reflections are, they still have some of the really severe caveats that raster reflections have e.g. disappearing when the reflected object is off screen.
That reminds me of playing games at the AMC movies theatre in 1990s
Dawid didn’t say linode had the funnest name to say this time, which makes me believe he found a brand with an even funner name to say
G'day Dawid & Anna,
I got a LG 55" C1 4K for Xmas 2020 & bought an RCA to HDMI Adapter to connect my PS2 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, Like Anna said it is amazing how Life Size everything becomes on a Tv this size, I have not bothered to check whether the output is 480i(NTSC) and 576i(PAL) but because the PS2 Doesn't have upscaling like PS3 & PS4 when I play Buzz Jr. Jungle Party with my niece & nephews it is HUGE! 😂
Can we just take a moment to talk about how good the thumbnail is? It’s the dead eyes look. 😂
Dammit, DaWid, you've finally done it. You've beaten me down to my core and I've signed up for Linooooode.
😂
“Shockingly, it performed horribly. But on the plus side, a sponsor paid for this sweet new TV.”
Ah, this is the kind of quality content that I subscribed for!
Linode is the only thing allowing Dawid to eat at this point.
i feel like anna did most of the work setting up the tv while dawid bieng stupid just helped XD
The amount if sarcasm on some of these videos is possibly my favorite thing on CZcams
Half Life 2 did look stunningly real to me back in 2004 on a 1024x768 crt display. I just need an 8k display to recreate that video game bliss. Thanks for the tip!
4 BSOD's in one image- an IT technician's worse nightmare
Love the TV unboxing music for sure lmfao!!!
I am surprised how good this video idea turned out to be...never thought HL2 supported 8K in the first place. Thanks man.
Same equivalent version for UK and Irish market in Ireland costs around 2.5k Euros converts to roughly 3.4k Canadian Dollars .... wicked 👍 great bargain Dawid what a deal 👍
DSR: exists
Dave: hey sponsor company we need an 8k tv 👉👈
Next up: 8K gaming vs a GT210
Still amazes me that HǼ LŒF 2 still looks that good & plays so well even after 20+ years
I was also very impressed. 😃
@@DawidDoesTechStuff Wish I could like this comment more, thank you for getting my dumb joke haha
Well said. Also, that is a very interesting way to type out the name.
I bag on this card a lot... but ETA Prime found it to be actually very good for emulation. Might be worth a try.
@@xxxblackvenomxxx The question is... are you running it at PCIe Gen4?
This was so wholesome by the end that I'm giggling haha. I think it does say a lot about how old games are still very much enjoyable nowadays, albeit with crazy high resolutions. Half Life 2 at 8k with a native 8k texture pack.... Hmm
Why is it you make the Linode ad reads so dang cool. Keep up your awesomeness.
1:37 Anna:" I'm not sure, but I think this shouldn't be exposed to babies. "
Narrator: And this is exactly why you are unboxing this TV, while David was safely shoved into cradle.
CZcams's tech channels top power couple.
I think it’s safe to say the channel is Dawid Does Tech Stuff powered by Linode
"Well it's not a Casio watch" ... probably one of the best lines you've said
The textures look soo crisp.
I had this same reaction to play old games when I got the 77” Lg C1 for the living room and decided to plug my Razer blade and try out old steam games.
I'm so happy Linode is back you couldnt understand how happy I am
Literally crying tears of joy rn
LINNNOOOOOOOOODDDDDEEEEE 😂
BINOOOOOMO
This Anna appearance is a real plus to this already awesome channel =)
When you first switched to 8K in GTA 5 my laptop's fan ramped up at the same time with the ominous sound. You can feel it's fear.
1:46 That is the most shiny remote controller I have ever seen.
It makes sense. Seeing bad graphics so clear is kinda cool.
LINODE IS BACCKKK. SMILES ALL AROUND 😀😀
Another vital review. Quality entertainment as ever.
Dawid inspecting the TV up close reminds me when children get scolded for being too close to the TV
Dawid thinks we come to watch his videos, and that Linode is just a fan favorite sponsor. It's really us coming to see Linode and Dawid is a fan favorite sponsoree
Now Linode is my favorite sponsor
I always get unreasonably excited when a new Dawid video drops.
4:24 is it just me or does that Galaxy look like the chihuahua 🧐😱 next to it 😝
This is the content I subbed for.
The Casio watch comment got me 😂
Linode and Anna. We have been blessed.
Anna's box opening groans have given Dawid some competition.
Your Linode ads always make me laugh, Dawid
Now you can truly feel the V1 experience
On this channel, « 8K gaming » often means « one digit fps score » 🤣🤣🤣
...or a cute BSOD 🤣🤣
