After that cutscene my only words were "WHEN DID SEATH VISIT YOUR HORSE LOOKIN-ASS!?"
Once that dramatic cue kicks in when he's got the sword by his face, gives me freaking goosebumps every time.
The way he covers the deranged part of his face with the sword is so cool. Only showing the calm and composed side of himself after finding his strength.

Finally someone else have noticed!! He covers the eye that is infected with the beastly scourge and shows the human eye, further emphasizing his return to his senses.
Personally, I would word it as “highlighting the last of his humanity.”

In this moment, Ludwig stands as a man once more, and not a beast. In fact - Ludwig takes less damage from weapons that are effective against beasts in his second phase.
He has remembered that he was once a man, and in standing upright to wield his blade - is allowed to capture some semblance of his humanity before his death.
But in the background you can still see the parsitic head of eyeballs representing the church he served as their watchful eye
And the (potentially) corrupting power of the magical moonlight greatsword at the forefront of the picture
All of these things corrupting the image of the heroic face he barely has

Beethoven It's really not, there's a difference between personal preference and actual complex perfection in composition. Ludwig's theme is just so, powerful, every instrument and vocal is placed just where it needs to.
King Barney I'm not even talking about personal opinion. Yes, the Opening and the reprise (recapitulation) of Ludwig, the Holy Blade is really good. But everything between is poorly executed. It's the same melody with slight variations looping 5 times. And the strings in that point are screeching too loudly. It just gets noisy after the theme loops for the 2nd time.

I prefer when people have played previous Dark Souls games and react to this fight. It makes it so much more enjoyable to me when they know what the Moonlight Greatsword is.
I've never seen so myself, but has anyone ever seen someone react to the Moonlight Greatsword because of its original existence in King's Field?
Personally I love the fact that it has appeared in almost all of their games.
Also side note I think Bloodborne has the prettiest of all the Moonlight Greatswords.
Probably not, King's Field is pretty old and a bit overshadowed by Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. Hell, the Moonlight Greatsword even appeared in their mech series, Armored Core.
Fair enough. Only reason I even know of King's Field is due happening to find IV's music (Dark Reality), triggering such an urge to play the game.

Lobos's reaction is almost my reaction when I first fought Ludwig. When I got to his second phase, I was in awe because of Ludwig's transformation of recovering his sanity and when he revealed the Holy Moonlight Sword and the music. When I died to his huge AOE, I wasn't even mad. Ludwig is definitely one of the best video game bosses of all time.
Yeah, we know what the tragedy of Ludwig was. Died to him twice and wasn't even mad .. Orphan of Kos though......yeah that made me quit this DLC ... that one is broken and unbalanced..

I think Martyr Logarious' theme is criminally underrated.
You know Ludwig is special when he gets his own cutscene midfight (which, might I add, never happened before), regains a bit of humanity and starts using a sword. No other bosses before him did this, not in Dark Souls, not in Bloodborne, they all started using their powers and beastly side more and more.
Ludwig was devoted enough to his job as a Hunter that even in this nightmare he still woke up. Even as he falls, he props against his partner, his mentor, the only thing that stayed with him even after he lost his humanity. His sword, he falls down not like a slaughtered beast, but like a proud Warrior and Hunter.
This is also him in his monster form, still having limitations, I can't even begin to imagine how the fight would go if he was human. Probably how the fight with Artorias would go if he didn't have his left arm broken. Let's not even talk about the soundtrack which is incredible, I've not seen such a great soundtrack for a boss in years.
I do agree that even though it sounds amazing it keeps on repeating and there isn't much difference in it but imagine that this was made for a Boss Fight, not background music, AND KEEP IN MIND THIS IS JUST A DLC, and this soundtrack is better than a lot from the main game, and even other games' sountracks.
The Hunter, the sword is what make him fell, he didn't had fear because the sword and only beasts don't have fear

A bunch of bosses have cutscenes mid fight. Artorias, Abyss Watchers and Ornstein and Smough just to name a few.

As soon as the sword came out and the music started, I had never heard a game telling me “You are SO fucked” so clearly
I love how everybody is groaning and moaning and then, in the middle of all of that, Lobos goes full on pizza cutter mode.

Kind of sad to see none of them bothered to talk to him after beating him. He has some very interesting and sad dialogue. One of the best soulsborne characters there is imho..

@@nicolaigiess8006 Alot of them are "in time" with their music actually. Not synced, but in time. The Dancer attacks in 3/4 which is the same as her music and it's the biggest reason why people have a hard time with her, even if they don't realize it.

I noticed this a lot while fighting, the music occasionally syncs up with his attacks and it's fucking badass when it does.

Its the minor details that matter.
The way he stands upright when he regained the sword gave me goosebumps. He remembers who he was.

I played the DLC on my NG+3 and I struggled so much on Ludwig, the rest was kind of "easy". Except for Laurence which needs the player to "relearn" the game for the dodge i-frames T_T
My first time in the dlc was ng+7. I regretted it but managed to beat everyone in it. Ludwig is definitely my favorite boss

When you fight Ludwig, it turns from α hunt to α duel. Love this fight so much.
Ludwigs Bossfight perfectly describes not only the love/hate relationship of most Soulsborne fans to the series but also sums up all the amazing things about these games. Epic music, challenging combat, great lore, incredible atmosphere, bosses that tuck on your nerves to the breaking point (I had moments where I had shaking hands after a bossfight) and the pure euphoria and ecstasy of beating a boss. This bossfight could literally be dubbed "The Soulsborne series in a nutshell".

I’ve gotten the Moonlight blade to +10, so I can fully harness its potential.

Bloodborne really is a fantastic game; hopefully Sony and From can get together to do another "souls-like" game. I feel that with the premise of Bloodborne, really any type of event or setting can take place just because of the nature of "nightmares" or different planes of existence - you could imagine or create all sorts of things.

Bloodborne is when From Software stepped up the composition and passion tenfold. The entire game is a story of tragic characters that you’ll interact with and possibly help, or kill. The music is stupendous and each song is made perfectly for the boss it accompanies.

Watching this vid again after completing Bloodborne about 2 months ago. I'm still grinning watching it. I honestly didn't end up seeing phase 2 all that often, because of how much phase 1 fucked me over. I'm glad I learned to stay in close when he raises the sword up before the giant slam. The damage the first little AoE does is minimal and it's so easy to get back and stay in close to avoid the energy wave from the sword slam. When I fought Lothric and Lorian in DS3 I quickly noticed that it's basically a modified version of Lugwig's attack. They just made it way easier to avoid; that's assuming you can find him, lock on, and dodge in time since every single time he teleports away to use that attack it breaks lock-on. Having completed both Bloodborne and DS3 finally, Ludwig still ranks among the top 10 of boss fights from both of those games.

How nostalgic... the cutscene and that fight coupled with an awesome track brought me to tears when facing him like that for the first time. The best boss fight in Bloodborne. Period.
If you are one of the people who read all the descriptions of items and try to follow the story this fight is so powerful. Finally getting to meet the legendary Ludwig. Best souls encounter imo.

They did (at least Lobos did), but it was cut out from this video.
Lobos I think even did it twice. He started to talk, and then an obnoxious text-to-voice donation came in and he ran away to cut off the conversation until the donation was done being read.

I always come back to this video. Ludwig's song, the fight as a whole, it's the best in Bloodborne in my opinion.
Imagine sharing the sheet music to someone like mozart or other musicians in and around that era and telling the story behind it. A holy warrior corrupted and twisted into a beast until the light of the moon had guided him back for one more battle against hell itself.

All this years later I still live seeing the reactions to this. I still remember the first time I did this fight I was immediately taken away by the music first phase felt like he'll but then that cutscene hit my jaw smacked the floor so hard literally died immediately cause I was in shock and the music transition during the phase change ong it was amazing. I can genuinely say I watch the cutscene every time I fight him.
Kinda sad that phase 2 feels so easy compared to 1 though because it's not such a random movement where every other attack or combos is insta death especially in higher ng+ cycles but still not the pain I felt fighting Lawrence jfc nightmare fuel but also worth it for the OST

I'm late I know, but I can explain why this weird phenomenon happened.
Lobos had a lot of chances to kill Ludwig much earlier, but he purposely didn't take them. He had planned to fight Ludwig on NG+7 with only his bare fists later, but also just Lobos' attitude in general is that he likes to truly LEARN the fights before conquering them, so he spent all that time wanting to perfectly learn it. So he died a lot, but in the end he killed Ludwig like a pro because he was purposely not winning until he could do the fight flawlessly, or nearly flawless.

I think it's interesting how Ludwig is basically two completely different boss fights. Other bosses will add new attacks, or summon back up or whatever, but the core of it tends to remain the same between phases.
Not so with Ludwig. In the first phase you have the beast, in the second you have the knight, and there is virtually no overlap between the two. Not their attacks, their stances, their vulnerabilities, none of it stays the same. It's honestly rather fascinating to watch.
