I like to think there is multiple stages of scalet rot. First stage is curable but stage 2 either corrupts,mutates, or straight up kills the host. I like to think when our hp hits zero, that's when stage 2 occurs lol.

The saddest part about Melenia is that the scarlet rot devoured almost her entire body, losing her own eye sight, right arm and legs, worse part is she was never able to see Miquella’s face ever again
I wouldn't call Malenia a blind fighter honestly.... Here's why tho :
1- She did loose many of her organs true , but because she's a fearless accurate swordsman demi-god while having a great rune of the Elden Ring.
2- Malenia's sensei/mentor was a blind-man swordsmen... The one mentioned in this video the swordsmen who has the fairy flowing sword. ( Notice that flowing sword has a similar Malenia move-sets , being flowing and lethal ).
3- Scarlet Aeonia the flower of which the Rot keeps malenia pretty powerful , is probably the secret behind malenias powerful and accurate precision when facing the Tarnished. ( Malenia is a fearless boss , and also un-defeated a flawless boss pretty much prior to our story when we counter her ). Those are some obvious indications on how maybe malenia might haven't seen Miquella , but she also has a connection with her bro miquella with those Powers etc... Hence the nickname "Malenia , Blade of Miquella". A dedicated empyrean flawless haligtree knight. 💯

The God of Rot hasn't influenced malenia , unlike the kindreds of Rot followers and servents.... Meanwhile , Malenia has Unalloyed Gold armor which resists the god of rot influence , but she's only sick from the rots disease mainly.... Pretty much. She's an empyrean at the end of the day.

Look at General Radhan , he is completely a monster who doesn't speak ( And a cannibal actually who eats the corpses of the dead warriors inside the festival arena ground , the scarlet rot completely rendered him an animal making him loose his mind , concious , speech etc ). Only thing Radhan still holds is his horse Leonhard..... So malenia yes she is blind , but not metaphorically in a sense. 😁 Not to even mention Malenia has some pretty accurate attacks like her Clone slashes etc... She can clearly see you in a sense. I think it's close to whats going on tying it up to the Lore aswell.

The fact that she or the blind swordsman can fight despite being blind doesn't change the fact that they are blind. Blind only means not being able to see. No relation to combat effectiveness. Simple as that. There is no shame either. Kinda makes me respect her more that à blind & also crippled fighter is so ridiculously strong. If Malenia had her curse cured somehow, she will be nigh unbeatable.
For those that don't know, Miquella created the Haligtree as his curse was to be forever young, so he created it to grow into an adult and purge the Rot from his sister.
it was an attempt to cast out his emperean flesh and ascend into godhood. he realized he couldnt do it with the haligtree so he returned to the lands that merika ascended at. and he followed in her footsteps.
So, Marika boned herself as Radagon, and because the universe couldn't decide If that's Masturbation or Peak incest, the Kid got cursed with an infection

Don’t forget the wings on Malenia’s penitent knights, which gives a vibe of ants serving a queen.
the scorpion's stinger was the tail of the actual god of rot's vessel, the rot's version of Marika, which was killed by the aforementioned "water swordsman" that trained malenia

So is it safe to say the God of Rot needed a cursed child like Malenia ? She's often considered a full "Goddess of Rot" and it's God takes the form of a scorpion (don't remember wich item says that) and this animal is always connected to transformation (= her butterfly stage) and survival no matter what. I like the idea of Malenia being chosen by the Scorpion of Rot as it's new form, instead of "just" being cursed with rot. We saw that Radhan went mad when afflicted with it but weirdly, Malenia doesn't seems THAT insane and idk I might be wrong cause I'm not the best lore hunter but for me it feels like instead of her Two Fingers, Malenia had the God of Rot. PS: I can totally imagine her own Two Fingers completely rotted similar to Ranni's bloody Fingers or the one completely dead on top of a Divine Tower.

@@tbgamer2574 he’s also much bigger and stronger than any enemy that has ever been touched by rot. Rememeber a single blind swordsmen, not a demi god, is the legend that sealed away the rot god. Malenia is simply a perfectly created vessel for the rot god just as marika was a perfect vessel to contain the greater will who controls the elden ring in the modern age. I believe each outer god has their own way of gaining control over reality and that is to first find a host, (possibly grow an erdtree equivalent like miquella and the old erdtree that’s underneath the current one) make them a vessel for your will and than somehow obtain the actual elden ring in order to rewrite reality in whatever way the particular outer god wanted.
The God of Rot does not take form of a scorpion. Scorpion stinger is called relic of the God of Rot. Technically, this could mean many things.
So it could be that God of Rot has Elden Beast type of eldritch vassal that is huge arthropod, or that scorpions are sacred animals to God of Rot.
Greater Will is connected with trees, but nobody says that the entity is giant tree.

The way I see it, it very much mirrors how the Elden Ring possesses beings. Perhaps the scorpion was the vessel for the God of Rot in the same way Malenia is now, much like how a dragon used to be the vessel for the Elden Ring which is now held in Marika.
And then her little brother who tried SO DAMN HARD to cure her...Ended up getting kidnapped and turned into some blood child for his uncle to marry and bring back a different outer god of blood. Which probably didn't work either considering we murder said uncle.
But now the DLC poses some new questions of the fate of dear Miquella

With the dlc there seems to be two main sources of rot.
The outer god of rot, who has cursed malenia and is currently sealed in the Lake of rot
And Romina, saint of the bud. Who spread rot in response to messmer's crusade
The fact that even with a medieval looking cyborg outfit and blindness she can still fight like that is just insane truly the definition of a god if elden ring was real she would automatically be the greatest swords person to ever live besides the MC

There are also the Sacramental Buds which are found throughout The Lands Between, may of which are in Caelid; like the whopping 15 you find around Church of the Plague.
Millicent also has the ability to invade you in the Scarlet Aeonia if you haven't met her yet. At this point in time she has two arms and when defeated drops 5 Sacramental Buds.
This implies that Millicent was born of the Sacramental Buds. This is strengthened by her words in the Prayer Room Grace:
"Again we meet. I can only surmise our purposes are aligned. In which case, allow me to explain myself. I am of Malenia's blood. But in what capacity I know not. I could be sister, daughter, or an offshoot... Whatever the case though, I am certain of a kinship between us."
Malenia produces these buds, so Millicent is exactly correct in her percieved relation to Malenia. One could even see her like a flower that has self-pollinated.
Gowry also continuously describes Millicent as a bud. Millicent's sisters are just other buds.
A big important part is for Millicent and her kin to be wounded in battle. This parallels "pruning" plants in real life, where you cut it to encourage new growth or even cloning the plant by planting the cuttings.
This is why Millicent invades you, she was just born and maddened by Rot with the sole purpose to be cut. After you give her the Unalloyed Gold Needle the Rot's progression has ceased killing her. This allows some of her memory and sanity to regain.
Upon reaching the point of deciding to kill Millicent or her sisters, Gowry asks that you help the sisters kill Millicent. The loss in battle coupled with your betrayal, along with the Unalloyed Needle still being within Millicent would allow her to survive the ordeal and turn into a Scarlet Valkyrie when Malenia ascends to godhood, or she will replace Malenia. If you instead help Millicent, Gowry laments about how Millicent removed the Needle and disowned the Kindred of Rot, supposedly as Malenia did.
Sacramental buds are made by Miquella. Miquella's blood is blood of rejuvenation, and he experimented with consecrated buds in preparation to Haligtree, (which was also watered with his blood).
Miquella creates Bewitching Branches, Consecrated Buds, and Haligtree. That is his motif.
We even find buds in Miquella's hideout.

It's interesting detail that, her master swordsman teaches her that to stop scarlet rot from spreading, she can't stop moving. That explains why she's so well trained and agile blade user and her combos, thus waterfall, are so perfect and deadly. Even during the Malenia fight, she's in constant move and her skillet relies on it, she even has the shortest stagger in the game. And when we beat her at phase 1 she's on the ground lying, Malenia blossoms 3rd time, therefore changing her title from "Malenia, blade of Miaquella" to "Malenia, god of scarlet rot"
So I always thought when seeing all those kindred at the bottom of lake of rot, praying to the chest with the scorpion tail dagger… I was like “oh shit I bet the scarlet rot outer god is like a quelaag scorpion chick!!!” And then we get Romina! Iiiiinnnteressting

I just realized something. The god of rot probably didn't just choose Malenia for her Empearyn status alone. But to spite the mortal man who had defeated it, to curse him to watch as his student was devoured by the pestilence he fought. As she weakened becoming no more but a tool for the rot. Adds a whole new layer of sadness, a teacher watching helplessly as his star pupil was consumed.
She was cursed from birth, so I don't think that's quite right. The swordsman probably saw that Malenia was cursed and decided to teach her. Perhaps so she could resist the rot better, or perhaps out of pity.

If you think about the gold, it's similar to the bloodborne dlc armor the describes the metal wrapping around the leg, and only one leg, because the beast plague creeps up the leg.

Everyone says radahn is stronger then malenia. But she was blind, and only had one arm. Imagine if she wasn’t so handicapped. She at least tied with radahn at his peak. Only reason we beat her, is she was still recovering
Being blind probably wasn't a handicap, her master was also blind and defeated the god of rot. Their whole fighting style is probably based around having that disability while focusing more on the other senses. Her prosthetic arm actually saved her from injury during her fight with Radahn and it also houses her blade for quick access and provides more stability. She needed rot powers to bring the fight to a standstill, and even then Radahn still held up the stars after losing his mind and fought countless warriors afterwards while doing so. Malenia was dragged back to the haligtree, fell into a coma, couldn't protect miquella, and ultimately acomplished nothing. Then we beat her in her full goddess of rot form. Radahn is the GOAT

My theory is that Malenia and Miquella were cursed due to the great rune of the unborn being with Rennala, as Radagon left that before having the twins.
Malenia was cursed to be susceptible to influence from the outer gods, she was just chosen by the God of Rot since it was sealed away recently

malenia already has analloyed gold on her, putting on an extra needle wouldn't do anything if that's what you're talking about

Scarlett, Rot. All of the bandits of the badlands seem to have red or scarlet colored hair (or at least those who are decended from Radahn) and even the champion's bandit class seems to have a lock of his hair on the armour. I wonder if Calid is the badlands and if they named it scarlet rot because it blighted all the scarlet haired warriors and chieftains of the Badlands.
Caelid only became afflicted by scarlet rot recently.
Godfrey was "hounded" from Lands Between with his followers, and Lands Between includes Caelid. So Godfrey was chieftain of Badlands that exist somewhere outside of Lands Between.
Furthermore, red hair is stated to be racial trait of fire giants, inherited by Radagon and northerners, implied to be half-breeds.
Wish the DLC would have told us more about the blind swordsman maybe even a mini boss fight I wish you would have talked more about the outer gods too

The lands between is basically a sandbox for the main gods of the game and their forces influence everything. The scarlett rot is a byproduct of the god of rot and she got it was he said through interbreeding and the curse fell onto them. This was because marika needed a child of her own race to become her successor and therefore split into 2 to do so.
the concept of "Outer Gods" in a god-strewn landscape is very cool

My initial personal headcanon (that is no longer valid once I learned more lore) was that the Haligtree was hastily created to be a replacement for the waning Erdtree (which governs and bestows life), and is as such the source of the scarlet rot beings. It was an artificial life tree created by man/demigods and watered with the blood of a cursed infant, and as such produced cursed life.
I feel like this is way more interesting than "an outer god did it", but the text says otherwise.
Given how it looks, its incurability. and that it affects powerful gingers, ive always had it in my head its just eldritch excema

I think the magenta comes from the butterflies being accepted and cared for by Romina while Malenia rejects the rot and abandons her children (the kindred). However Malenia’s rot still inflicts more damage, at least from a gameplay standpoint.

You realize Flame Cleanse Me works by burning away rotting parts of your body? This causes damage to the caster.
Imcantation works on us because we are merely starting to rot away, so we suffer only slight damage.
But if your body is mostly made of rot, and thoroughly infested?
There would not be anything left of her if she burned the rot away.
It’s a living thing…like mushrooms but it’s like some ancient God Lovecraftian influence. In short, an outer God.

She also loses her Unalloyed Gold Needle, which probably meant that she might've been taken from the Outer Gods. Still, there's a lot of unknowns and it's not impossible to see her again in the future
I don't think that Miquella and Malenia were born cursed. But being children of one God made them Empyrean (as we all know) which made them "vulnerable" for the influence of an Outer God, which in Malenia's case was the God of Rot.
Which God took hold of Miquella however we can't tell. Maybe St. Trina.

I just wanted to clarify. Messmers existence debunks Malenia and Miquella's sicknesses because from his Red hair it appears that the Shadow land was a failed attempt of self reproduction resulting in Radagon and Marikas personalities conflicting with each other and Messmers heresy.
