    Sal Glesser (founder of Spyderco) and his son, Eric, sat down with me at the SHOT Show 2016 in Las Vegas to talk about counterfeits, their backgrounds, legacies, and a lot more.
    We're in Las Vegas once again for the 2016 SHOT Show. I have Michael, our new marketing guy, helping me out this year. We're shooting a lot of videos, same as every year, so be sure to check out all of them!

    I love this company and I love how Sal started it but Eric has really carried it into what it is now. Eric really deserves a tremendous amount of credit for what spyderco is today. Amazing.

    Great interview! I am Chinese and I have to say in my country it's very hard to buy a real spyderco, you don't know who is selling the real thing, and the real ones are very expensive., more expensive than it is in American or Canada.
    BTW I am not making excuses for making fakes.

      If it's very expensive, work hard and save up. By supporting fraud , criminals are hurting the industry. Simply, it's not cool lol God bless

    I have used knives all my life and recently bought a Para 3 with a Manix 2 on the way. I really appreciate the genuine humbleness of Sal and Eric, I recently joined a Spyderco forum and after posting an introduction I received a welcome from Sal. How many knife manufacturers would do that ? I'm very impressed with the Para 3 its design and blade geometry are so flexible for tasks from out in the bush to preparing game. Thanks for sharing, subbed the channel. All the best from Scotland.Garry

    Thanks again Marshall, always look forward to your ShotShow videos. Such a wonderful father and son team! I love how humble Eric always is - for example he'll say "I'm Eric Glesser and I work for Spyderco" rather than saying that he's the heir to the empire and a fantastic knife designer in his own right ;)

    GREAT interview and video. I was familiar with GG but didn't realize you were in Smyrna GA-my wife is a "Georgia Peach." : ) This is one of the best interviews I have seen with Sal and Eric. What was that loud noise near the end (29:28 or so)? Sounded like it could've been an ND...but I'm hoping it wasn't. I know there are tons of safeguards put into place for display items.

    I love Spyderco. My favorites at least as far as production knives come from Benchmade, ZT, and Spyderco there are plenty others I like but those are the 3 that make up most of my knives. Actually I have bought I believe 18 Spydercos in the past 6 weeks or so lol. They discontinued a lot of models I wanted this year besides a few sprints and couple exclusives I just bought. Only other knife I got in that time is the Knifecenter exclusive Benchmade red battleworn Bugout. I like how Spyderco uses so many different steels. I know some of the others offer a variety too but most don't seem to be quite like Spyderco even though most the main staple models seem to be s30v and VG10. I like all the exclusives and sprints but they seem to be a lot harder to get ahold of then sprints, limited or exclusives from some other MFGs.

    I used to be a big fan of Spyderco, however, after taking a brand new Lum Tanto to them because it had a small scuff on the blade and being told it was "used for something other than it was designed for" was enough for me to drop them for anything other than 2nd sales. In hindsight I should have just returned it to the dealer after seeing the defect instead of to the manufacturer.

    I LOVE spyderco! my love affair started with the tenatious. I tried cheating on them with other knives and I always end up sending them packing back to Amazon. My latest spyderco is the paramilitary 2 and ever since it's been in my life I can't even look at another knife. It's llike this knife was custom made for me... thanks spyderco.

    • @JesseLJohnson
      @JesseLJohnson Před 4 lety

      There are plenty other MFGs I like and collect but Spyderco is probably my favorite. Them, Benchmade, and ZT are probably my favorite 3 production knife companies at least those 3 make up the majority of my collection. Hell I think I bought 18 Spydercos just in the past 6 weeks lol. They discontinued a lot of models this year I didn't have I wanted so the time to get them was now then I got a few sprints and exclusives. I like all the sprints and exclusives I know other companies offer them too and I have sprints, limited, and exclusives from ZT and Benchmade too but seems there is more from Spyderco but most seem to be harder to get then from other MFGs. I like the variety of steels they use too even if s30v and VG10 are the main steel used in so many of their staple models. There is always sprints and exclusives of those base knives so you can get other steels and handle materials and colors. Benchmade and others offer various steels too but Spyderco must have the biggest variety. Seems most all ZT today are 20cv which I love but would like to see a little more steels offered used to be pretty much all s35vn and they still offer that some and see every now and then CTS-204p and Elmax but not in quite some time few of the older models in s30v and cpm154 too. With Benchmade the steel that was used on so many models was 154cm now most that has moved to s30v so when they discontinued the 154cm use in so many knives last year I bought them up discontinued now those knives are s30v.

    • @JesseLJohnson

      I love the ethnic series from Spyderco too. Wish I had them all but some of them have been discontinued for quite a while and I don't want to pay the outrageous prices people ask for them now you can't easily order them lol. I did just get a couple of them though. Have the Shabaria sprint in the mail now. Surprised I could even get it since the sprint came out in I think Dec 2018 and here it is Nov 2019 and couple sites still have them. I got the Lil Lum too that was discontinued a year or 2 ago and 3 sites I found still had them and one was way cheaper then the other 2 so I added it to an order for the PPT Sprint which also came out a year or so ago but still some of them floating around that had yet to sell in the past year.

    On a side note, I'm also a big fan of your store and your vids, I had the chance to go to Smyrna on Christmas, and I could not pass the opportunity to visit Going Gear, bought a Cara cara 2 and a couple of keychain Olights, hope to have the chance of visiting next year.

    Guys everyone wants to buy the original spydercoes but they are just god damn expensive and most people can't afford it. They are expensive knives even in USA. Imagine how is the situation in a third world country. The knives cost 2 or 3 times more than in the USA and the people who want to buy it must give their salary for the month to buy an original one. Then you either buy a knock of because you can't afford one or save up like 1-2 years and buy original one. Then you are afraid to use it cause if you break it or loose your hearth won't hold the pressure. That is the reality.

    I mean it's all about price. Once china makes an exact clone knife that feels and works just like the original all you have left is the price and some people I've met prefer the cheaper knife. And I mean once a original knife stops getting made it's just like they said china's willing to keep making it and pick it up once they are gone. Which is the problem they are trying not to face they want to die with that knife or just pass it down to the family instead of giving it down to china. But yeah rn it's all about price I believe once the clone knives start working as good as the real ones it's bout which would you buy the cheap one or the most expensive knife some people can't afford. But the public is basically telling anyone who have clone knives or buy clone knives are committing a crime which is organized crime. Which now anyone who has a clone knife are now criminals and telling them they should go to jail for that. I believe people shouldn't scare the public like this saying these people are criminals. It's honestly sad. But I see videos on youtube that people enjoy clones so yeah it's honestly a big battle hopefully the ones who have come knives get to keep their clones and it doesn't get a law past where its illegal to own clone knives.
