  • Michoacán is one of the most picturesque regions of Mexico. Before the Spaniards came, the Purepechas lived near Pátzcuaro Lake, where biodiversity is very rich. Today, the whole population still lives on the generosity of the lake. People in this region have a special relationship with death and prepare the return of their dead each year.

This is beautiful. I'm glad the fisherman recognized that they exploited this lake through fishing. Now is time to allow the fish to make come back. Sometimes, we never know what we have until we loose it. Thank you SLICE for showing us this part of the Mexican culture.

Apparently the “whitefish” of lake Pátzcuaro are a species of freshwater silversides. Which is interesting since they aren’t considered table fare in the states.

In reality it is the extremely large avocado orchards which are destroying the lake and the water drain as well.

Not sure if you are just being facetious... Every country has its poor and downtrodden, unfortunately. Mexico is no exception. Beautiful country, rich in resources, commerce and culture. There's still a huge disparity in wealth.
