Welcome to our Weapon Legends content. As the Weapon Detective, we are investigating modern weapon systems of the Second Cold War. The Weapon Legends is about the older weapon systems, and we tell their epic stories, which made them a legend. The Weapon Legends investigates these stories, reads between the lines, analyses them, and tells the untold. In our videos, you can find technical information, historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. Let the wisdom of history show us what the future will be like. Let’s investigate the veteran weapons of the past together.

In the game SQUAD, its lovingly referred to as the "Shitbox"
When this is your only bulletproof vehicle its better than nothing.
Still quiet powerful. Especially the mea one 😂
fizzled out in the face of actual g.......

I think its not entirely
correct to say MTLB is not the Eastern M113, especially since you showed us that is pretty much has ended up being that.
M113 also is very modifiable and has been used for a variety of roles, including artillery tractor.
In their use there is little difference, only the original role differs.
I served in the Finnish army mounting these everyday and its mobility and the amount of stuff/personnel you can stuff into one is unparalleled.
Our CV90 units always wondered how we could just cross bogs like it was nothing and the profile of the MTLB made it so it was very hard to target in a hilly forested country.
Oh and also being cheap is a bonus, and maintenance is a peace of cake. Yeah I would not want to take fire while being in one but its not really meant to be under fire.
Its a super good battle taxi, use it in APC role (Drive infantry to the combat area and wait)
I think WD's arguments are valid. M113 was designed as apc, but MT-LB not. Its story is much similar to Bv-206. Also, MT-LB is very crampy, which indicates that it was not designed for the infantry. It has no ramp for infantry. A tank can tow artillery, which does not make the counterpart of the MT-LB. Yes, I also accept that many countries use it as apc. But, also they use the Bv-206s. MT-LB2s story much similar to Bv-206.
Thanks for your comment. We try to offer a different perspective on our channel. We are always happy to encounter counter-arguments like yours.
@@habahan4257 a mtlb driver here. With some experience a mtlb is pretty easy to get out of and there really is no need for a ramp.
@@jaakko222 more like, how the hell you'd fit a ramp to a vehicle you can barely sit in straight :D
@@tomppeli. that's also true...
As a driver, I never had a clue how much black smoke the exhaust threw up
Though, the pre-heater actually blacked out the sky to make it night at midday
Always liked the looks and proportions of the MTLB, seems pretty handy and flexible
Excellent video. I was also one of those who thought the MT-LB is the Soviet counterpart of the M113. I like your arguments. I now agree with you.
MT-LB it leaked every single fluid everywhere, as a driver you could have your feet soaked in a mix of fluids. When you started it up, it spat a mix of diesel, coolant and whatnot out. But it had a nice sound🙂
Ahhh, maybe this stuff just likes to self ignite? Horrible prospect.
Yeah, we had a saying that "there are no 'no leaks' just no fluid"
@@tomppeli. you used this vehicle?
Sounds like bad maintenance, or your vehicle is literally one of the first ones built.
I've always had a soft spot for this vehicle - they just look bad ass! Many thanks for the info I learned a lot.
It really is Infantry Fighting Vehicle because for MT-LB, it's whole existence is a fight
I rode in the one at the NTC in 88'. The troops in the back sat literally ON the fuel tanks.
Too nice video about MT-LB armor vehicles of USSR...video labeled to all characteristics of this successful light armor and its historical backgrounds created ,upgraded also found in Sweden army ...its upgraded occurred in several countries for different tasks ...thanks ( weapon detective) channel for sharing this video
MTLB is a Loyd Motor Carriage of cold war era that has managed to survive to modern times.
simple and semingly endlessly adaptable as a weapon carrier.
The MT-LB is the successor to various Half Tracks of both US army and Third Reich Heer ( M2/M3/M5 half tracks and SdkFZ 250/251) in terms of its purpose as a multi-purpose towing+ combat + troop carrier vehicle. Basically this is one of the true successors of WW2 era half tracks.
excellent briefing 💂
The most adequate term for the plates that cover the front windows in battle is armoured shutters, IMHO.
Thanks for another great video 😊
My father built MTLBs back in the day.

MTLB is tracked toyota pickup. Because it's also has hundreds variations with weapons and other equipment
The MT-LB, unlike the bmp-1,2 and 3, have excellent mobility in rough terrain. The engine is really, really powerful and it can negotiate very tricky terrain. Also unlike the bmps. It also due to the massve engine have a "sneak" feature. Large bore engines on low rpms are incredibly hard to pinpoint even when you hear them. Since its also low you can sneak it into places where other vehciles wont go and cover it up. We used this with RBS56 on it for several years here.
The bmps are not good on rough terrain?
@@novusregnum No. The Bmp-1 is damn near useless. The Bmp-2 isnt far off the 3 is passable i guess. But then again they werent really designed for it.
@@Mornomgir Are you even aware that BMP-1 and 2 have nearly identical chassis? They are faster but have higher ground pressure than MTLB so on the level.
BMP-3 is an offroad monster with no AFV coming close.
@@Klovaneer yeah. I worked with all of them. The bmp3 is not an offroad monster. It is just not shit like the bmp1 and 2. None of them comes close to what the mtlb can do however.
Excellent video!
Very interesting video and couldn’t agree more with your analysis, coming from a current MT-LB/V driver in the Finnish army. 🇫🇮 Sometimes I wonder why we still use these old soviet shitboxes, but then again it does it's job when used for it's intended purpose.
-NATO: you can't put AMRAAM missiles on a MIG-29
-MTLB: hold my vodka
Cool video mate, can you make a video on India based tanks or APC..
Thanks for your interest. We have intended to make videos of many Indian systems. But unfortunately, we could find a few good video footage. Now, we try to collect them until we have enough. We will continue to make Indian systems as we get enough video footage. Our next Weapon Detective air system video will be about the HAL LCH.
@@WeaponDetective What about ATAK? please make a video
No argument, this is a dependable workhorse in the right hands.
Where do we put the fuel for max survivability of the crew? I know in the crew compartment!
It is a versatile and useful vehicle. It Ukraine, it is probably being used as an IFV, which it isn't really.
i appreciate the fact you cover such a wide range of vehicles. not just the trending topics or the more "sexy" types.
Does anyone know what turret is used in 5:07 and 5:10?
ZU-23-2 on a MT-LB - Classics))
you forgot about MT-12 Rapira anti-tank gun mounted on it, as a fire support)
What diff with BTR 50 family?
tbh, no afv or ifv has sufficient protection against any modern threats, be it rpg, atgm or tank cannon, doesnt matter if the btr-50 or the PUMA, their both pretty much as fucked if hit. Just very few Centurion, Merkava or T-55/72 based heavy APC's can tank any hits.
I think the Bradley is an exception though.
@@nigelmyall3204 other than in ukraine, its never been faced with real current weapons on any scale. Even 1980's atgm's with simple HEAT warhead will do short work of it.. the thing has aluminium "armor"... other than the most heaviest APC's based on MBT's, IFV/APC's generally are designed only resist up to 23/30mm Russian and even then, only from FRONT.
MTLB is not just a shitbox, it's also a multipurpose shitpost machine. You can do ANY kind of modification to it. APC, IFV version, rocket launcher platform, , ATGM launcher platform, AA gun platform, naval gun platform, flamethrower platform, anything can be equipped to this thing.
The fucking Abomination with the naval gun is something out of the realm on sanity... 😅😅😂😂
MT-LB
Weapon detective :- legend
Ukraine. :- scrap metal
It looks like a BTR had a baby with a BMP😂
I generally despise little kids (of any age) referencing games when commenting on any military channel, because it shows that they lack the mental capacity to differentiate between fantasy and reality.
With that said, I like the MTLB in the board games MBT and IDF because of it's great carrying capacity and versatility. That is NOT meant to be taken as a comment on its real capabilities or performance.
Low key such a kit bashable model kit.
Its still in use medivac in here 🇫🇮🇪🇺..

They are one of the most destroyed Russian vehicles in ukraine, next to the t72b3, they blow up quite nicely.
In the meantime some ukrainian examples got MT12s mounted atop it.
not btrs or bmps?
Makes a good decoy target… easy pickins
Kontra...m113
Why are they still indispensable? Because that’s all the orcs have left
This vehicle is good for utility and logistic support, but a death trap if used for combat.
Hello, I'm from the future, and let me tell you that, in regards to MTLBs, you ain't see nothing ter! 😂😂😂
