Anime: Dororo, (recent) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, etc.; Miyazaki films like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Caste, etc. Also video game Legend of Zelda (Twilight Princess, Breath of the Wild)
In a scenario like this, I'd use ILLUSTRATOR to make a pressure sensitive calligraphic brush and then trace the drawing there. If you build your skills in illustrator inking (pressure sensitivity required), you'll find it's slightly more elegant than Photoshop inking.
Well... Sorry to be nit picky, but kids who are blind in one eye don't usually wear an eye patch on the impaired eye. Those who wear them are usually trying to correct their vision.. I think as part of a character design, one should do some of these type of research. Otherwise it may come across as offensive.
"Making all your characters look the same" ...Anime. Every artist who draws anime girls always draw them with the same goddamn face! Or at least the shape of their head is always the same.

What are your favorite character designs? (from anywhere! Comics, movies, TV, books, etc)

@@KarenKaffenberger I love all the Miyazaki films, but OMG the characters in Spirited Away are so incredible, No Face is my favorite!
