  • It has been around 2 years since we received the first teaser for the Fable Reboot in development by Playground Games. This teaser trailer gave us a lot more to look at. From a quest with a giant called Dave, a new look at a Hero, and an insight into the combat system.
    In this video, I explore the small details some of you may have missed during your viewing, and how it connects to the first teaser we were given.

    Just putting it out there, I don't think that he's a giant. I think the player has been shrunk. On the hillside shot with the giant pumpkin, you can see what looks like the "giant" standing next to her at normal Size.
    I think that he's been playing around with enlarging and shrinking potions, and accidentally made giant pumpkins At some point. he shrinks the player probably to cover something up and you have to fight him while tiny.

    • @M4n44n
      @M4n44n Před rokem +5

      @@windflare1637 It's obviously a Jack and the Beanstalk reference. The 'giant' probably made himself into a giant since the giant pumpkins suggests he has some kind of magical growing potion. You can also see the beanstalk erupting from the ground. That's probably when he became a giant, living in his giant house up in the clouds on his beanstalk. The hero climbs up and fights him there (hence why the birds are still small). The giant might even fall to his death if it follows the fairy tale, as is hinted by the giant broken glasses.

    • @banner_kr1972
      @banner_kr1972 Před rokem +2

      @@M4n44nI was thinking that maybe isn't only a Jack and the Beanstalk reference but also a reference to the orb of Magicka. If you remember in fable 3 there was a quest called "the game" where your hero had been shrunk by three wizards with the orb of Magicka, and the rest of the mission was a stereotype about the D&D fans with the wizards that were making RPG machanincs and we who had to save the princess from the evil baron with a special sword, used only for that quest.
      I think that mission was pretty funny and particular , but I would be very excited if the orb will be in fable 4 . Anyways apologies if I made some mistakes to write this but English isn't my mother tongue.

    You are one of the main people I've been waiting to cover the trailer. Funny enough I felt better about the trailer when you put the original soundtrack over it during your video. Which made me realize, they went for the humor, but the original Fable felt like, well, a Fable. It was mysterious had a mysticism to it, almost dangerous in the wider world. Sure there is humor, but I hope they don't harp on it too much cause British humor is very dry, so the humor was always a little more subtle. I hope they keep the dark fantasy feel of it all.

    • @carsonnesbit1178
      @carsonnesbit1178 Před rokem +2

      I feel that, it seems that playground has nailed the humor more or less, but to me the magic of fable was in how those games could effectively balance so many contradictory tones. Fable 2 opens the game with a series of wacky and goofy quests with the back drop being that you and your sister are starving orphans, then it caps it off with lord lucien murdering two children. This is a prime example of how the fable games were always able to balance opposing tones without them stepping on each others toes.

    Fable 2 was the first in the series I played, and thus is the one I hold the dearest, but I would say that I very much like the first fable as well, holding it as a close second.
    Having recently replayed the two first and trying to get through the third, what captivates me the most is the sense of, paradoxically, the helplessness which the two first games also exude; That no matter what great deeds are done as a hero of might, skill and will . . . There yet remains a sense of profound melancholy and sorrow to such power; To be a hero is a very solitary existence, where each bond made is often one to last shortly, to never more see one another again or to be snuffed out by death, ever haunting the likes of heroes.
    Sorry for the rant, but I really like this tragic aspect, being so common in this world.

    Things I would like to see in this new Fable:
    - No more hollow man, I want the undead back, including their horrifying screams. The current generation of children should experience what I felt in Fable 1 when I saw an undead for the first time and heard its scream after killing it.
    - No firearms.
    - No dog, or at least make it optional. I enjoyed the sense of solitude that gave me the first game, and the dog ruined that in the second one.
    - I want the light-hearted and funny elements, but I also want the darkness of its forests and the unease it brings.
    - I want to be very good if I choose to, but also very evil, but VERY evil. I'm worried that they might limit this due to current times. In the end, I feel guilty and I'm not really evil hehe, but I want to have the option there.
    - I definitely want Oakvale to return.
    - I want a soundtrack that lives up to expectations. All the fans know what I'm talking about.

Clearly they are goading and there is ideological decision making behind it. They simply dont want a good looking 'Sexy' female. Hence the Witch hunt for potential 'wokeness' is justified as we see it happening in so many entertainment mediums nowadays. Fans have a right to be concerned about what they see and speculate on matters. Thats the whole point of a teaser trailer.... Both Negative and positive criticism is justified.

    First impressions
    -This looks like a reimagining of the series rather than a soft reboot.
    -The tone and humour is suitably weird, british and light hearted. The fourth wall breaking stuff needs to used sparingly though so its not too obnoxious.
    -The games presentation is much more realistic and cinematic. Its graphically impressive but I worry this aesthetic could diminish the charm and character of Albion.
    -Combat already looks slicker than previous games and could be a highlight.
    -A voiced protagonist is concerning but it depends on the approach. Long conversations with dialogue choices wouldn't be a good fit for Fable. They need to be an introvert goofball of few words that speaks just for player feedback and comedic effect. This is the impression i get from the trailer which is promising. We dont want quippy marvel comedy.
    -Overall I think its too early to judge it either way but it'll definitely be a different take.

      I share your excitement, I love fable so much, I just hope that what we get actually IS fable. All of the lore, the pythonesque humor, and most importantly the ability to balance contradictory tones without having them step on each others toes. I'm not trying to be a downer, I just care about fable a lot and I don't want to go into this expecting the revival of my fav childhood games only to be met with a decent modern rpg that is wearing the face of fable without actually understanding what it is or appreciating its story and lore.

    Hello Skyrionn! Couple of thoughts about the trailer from a game dev. The biggest thing I thought about is how the studio behind the new Tomb Raider trilogy and support on Guardians of the Galaxy (Crystal Dynamics) is helping with Fable. They are really good at immersive, scripted events, which are the sections you are worried may be quick time events. Maybe they are helping with things like the giant's boss battle. Also, while this is a reboot, I have suspicions that this will be loosely based around 250 years after Fable 1.
    Also, if we look at Forza Horizon 5, there is a limited character customization system there, where you choose 1 of around 10 character designs to be your character. Then you just change their outfit. I could see them reusing that system for this. This would work really well with a voice selection system of some kind I think.

    • @AuntieHauntieGames
      @AuntieHauntieGames Před rokem +1

      I actually liked this character design but I hope we get something more in depth than a wheel of characters.
      I have talked with game dev acquaintances before about how, as a butch woman, I see a lot of choices that they make (especially for female characters) as ridiculous to the point of spoiling game experiences. Like the way the team who worked on the human models for Fallout 3 insisted that the female model needed to have the heels elevated off the ground even when they were not wearing shoes; a creative choice that made it difficult to enjoy the game fully until I knuckled down, learned to mod, and put those heels flat on the ground.
      People even said it would somehow screw up the walk cycle, which, of course, it never did.
      Overexaggerated swishy hips are on the list of things that drag me out of a game too.
      I dunno. I feel like in-depth character customization is ultimately akin to an accessibility issue but for social matters rather than matters of disability. In-depth customization goes a long way toward letting people 'outside the norm' share in the 'experiencing the world through my avatar' experience; while the opposite usually just communicates 'Hey, we did not think about you and likely never will.'

      @@AuntieHauntieGames I don't think that a lack of character customization really sends the message of not thinking about people. After all not everyone who plays RPG's does so to self-insert into the game, some people just like to enjoy stories and the characters within said stories, and for those folks it doesn't run much deeper than that. I agree that its refreshing to see people who aren't conventionally attractive being represented in games, it kills immersion for me when the entire population of a game in comprised of 20ish year old super models. I welcome more diverse characters as it helps to create the illusion of a living world.
      Also in past fable games the player character always had a sibling or other family, so it made sense to have a preset appearance because it would be odd if you and Theresa looked completely different haha, ofc we don't know what the story will be yet for the new fable so I suppose that remains to be seen. Honestly though im happy with whatever route they choose, I can see myself having fun with customization but I also like fables roots of "this is what you get, now make it your own".

    It seems to me if the game is not a complete reboot. The new Fable seems to be set After Fable 1 and before Fable 2 .
    I was always hoping for a game set during "The fall of the Guild". This might be the game I've been waiting for. Some of the things said in the trailer are oddly similar to a book in Fable 2 called: The fall of the Guild.
    In "The Tales of Albion" short stories, There is a story called "Fall of the Heroes". The story gives more understanding for when the New Fable Game might be Set.
    It would be interesting if we could also meet some of the Authors and people we read about in other books in Fable 2 and Fable 3. We could also meet some characters whose gravestones and House Descriptions we read in Fable 2 and 3.
    We could meet whoever is living in Bowerstone Castle at the time Perhaps it's "Leo head" Albion's greatest alchemist who built Fairfax castle. Or possibly "The Count" The Man who took over Fairfax Castle after Leo's Disappearance. We could Meet The Grave keepers grandfather, Thresher Jim "The First Crucible Champion" and a few others like "Brian Boring" who was an elderly man who once resided in Bowerstone Old Town. He lived to the ripe age of 142. We might also see Captain Dread (Alive) and Theresa.
    I believe the Game will Start off with bows and crossbows and then about halfway through the game a character will invent the "fire-arm".
    The Citizens of Albion start to no longer fear heroes or consider them a nuisance. The Guild will be Destroyed, The Remaining Heroes go into hiding.
    I also have a feeling that near the end of the game we might see a young "Reaver".But he will not be called "Reaver".He will also go by a different name Because he doesn't change his name to Reaver until sometime after The shadow courts attack on Oakvale. The game might even give you a part to play in the destruction of Oakvale. It might be similar to how "The Cursed Snow globe" quest plays
    A theory of mine is near the end of the story most heroes are dead and only few remain, most hide from The common folk in fear of being exposed as a Hero. Meanwhile this is happening somewhere in Oakvale a Young man (Reaver) who is in desperate need to help and protect his loved ones can't find anyone strong enough. So he takes it upon himself to try and gain power to protect the ones he loves. ( idk if he possesses any "Skill" yet at this point in his life. but heroes were hard to find). He makes the Deal with the Court for Eternal Youth Because of his fear of death, Little did he know it would come at the cost of losing everything he cared about.. He Also had to make Yearly Sacrifices to the Court, just to maintain the deal. This event Changed Him and He knew that if he ever stopped sacrificing people to the Shadow Court. He himself would Die and Lose the only thing he had left.. His life. So over the Hundreds of years of sacrificing people and living for so long, by the time you get to Fable 2 and 3 he is just a careless and heartless monster who seems to only care about himself.
    Reaver mentions in his Diary in Fable 2 that He used to be a completely different man All those years ago, And who he is today is nothing like he was back then.
    The guild will be there at the beginning of the Game and probably be Destroyed sometime near the end.
