Rinat Ibragimov, principal double bass of the London Symphony Orchestra, together with Catherine Edwards, performs Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf's Double Bass Concerto, originally written in Es Major but performed here a semitone lower.
This popular piece of double bass repertoire is commonly called for in auditions, and here Rinat demonstrates its performance using the original bass part and the Viennese Tuning that would have been in vogue at the time of its composition.
Rinat plays a d-bass by Matheus Albany, a gift from his colleague and friend Alexander Stepanov. He uses Pirastro Eudoxa strings.

Rest In Peace. Was such a role model to many young bassists including myself. I wish I could one day master the bass as he did. We miss you Rinat
Rest In Peace . Love you rinat.
He died!? 🥺

Yes, like 2 months ago.
And of all things covid :(
@PorcupineFloyd68 Thanks for your comments. What Rinat was trying to emphasise was that these pieces were originally written in Es Major. His performance here is in D Major due to the problems associated with transposing the entire accompaniment. I've clarified the descriptions to make this clearer.
Rinat doesn’t have many videos here on CZcams. But they’ll remain for the future generations, as milestones in classical music. Rinat, you’ve been an amazing artist 🙏🏼
better ppl are comin
Gorgeous middle movement! Casals was right when he stated that slow passages show more of a player's skill and control than the flashier faster movements. Total respect to both bassist and pianist.
There will never be another like Rinat, he is the GOAT.
Rest in peace, maestro.
For sure, Dittersdorf´s soul in whatever celestial world it is inhabiting, was thrilled to hear this performance by Rinat Ibragimov.
The man is stunning!!! Hope he recovers all movement. God bless you Rinat!
And Catherine Edwards too, for her sensible and very beautiful accompaniment!
I don't think I've ever heard a bass sound that beautiful. jesus.
Rinat and the pianist, should be given equal credit. They are both excellent!
About 50,000 pianists can sound like this. About 5 bass players in the world can sound like this.
I love classical/baroque music, and have listened for years. These two have caused me to discover (by chance) two new favourites. Vanhal and Dittersdorf.
he tuned the strings to E-P-I-C
Very impressive, but you can do this... ops! wrong chanel!
@@LucasCorreaOficial I see what you did there ;-P
Hahahaha
*But P isn't a note, hee hee, idiot lol*

now we can hear the doublebass and classical repertoire BREATH!!! ... WOW,THANKS FOR POSTING
mr ibragimov is a master of his craft.a wonderful player.many many thanks.
Wonderful performance! We've added it to our playlist 'Who'sPlayingMozartEra?' Thank you for your magnificent performance!!!
Hey listen kid. If you want to make it as a professional bassist, you go out and you do it. Don't take any crap from anybody. But work your freakin ass off. If you want it, you can do it. I am currently a grad student pianist at Manhattan School of Music. When I was your age, I wouldn't have believed I would make it this far. I am proof that it can work with a lot of hard work and dedication. Also, I was really good friends with this kid in high school who now plays bass in Cleveland Orchestra.
thank you so much
Thank you so much for posting so many solo works for the double bass.
Professional, inspiring as young bassist, and educational!!!
Thanks lots!!!!
I don't know if you'll ever see this, but I'm a bassist in 11th grade and hoping to continue music professionally. I just wanted to say that you are quite possibly my favorite bassist ever, and you're definitely my inspiration to push myself harder. Your music is truly amazing and the beauty and tone you get out of the bass is phenomenal. Thank you for all of these great videos, I watch them a lot more then I'm willing to bet most kid my age consider normal heheh. Anyway, I'm a huge fan.
Justice Ross where are you now?
Or now for that matter?
how are things now
please answer us 😥
How are you man
This concert is amazing! The second moviment is just sublime!!! Congratulation Rinat Ibragimov for your perfomance!

What the hell did I just witness?!
Rinat is a god
Well damn...
Andrew Utz Oh, I don’t know. I heard a lot of bow noise.
@@TheAxe4Ever GTF outta here
CrandMackerel Okay. But I was just making an observation. No need to get upset.
@@TheAxe4Ever That's a problem all bassists have. If you try to fight this noise, it sounds worse. Articulation is a very hard thing on double bass
Amazing...amazing. Thank you LSO for publishing on the "tube."
My God. This man was unbelievable. RIP
He is a miracle. Thank you I have NEVER heard playing like this. He is wonderful and what a wonderful accompanianist!
Not only virtuosity and light, but also very espiritual! Bravo Rinat!
Fantastico!
I recently discovered Dittersdorf, from a wonderful vinyl called: The Art of Dennis Brain, thank you for your art.
Viennese tuning, so A - D - F# - A bottom to top.
What a fantastic composition, and flawless interpretation. I love the deep sound of the double bass, no doubt my favorite bass instrument.
Amazing! Rinat is a truly master, and an inspiration for me! Thanks for uploading his videos! Again!
Brilliant, both the composition as well as both soloists !!
This is fantastic, i have never seen such finger movements and grasp of the strings,God
bless you and add you more strength and vigour.
OMG, this guy is really good.
All He played was just amazing.
The style is incredibly authentic to all eras and styles of music.
Bottesini, Bach, Classic and Modern Music....
The real lesson to future professionals and students also.
Bravo!
Beautiful music, beautiful bass!
Me and my bird enjoyed it very much. Thanks for this wonderful performance !!👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍😍😍
Some of the finest double bass playing right there

My teacher and I love this specific fingering for Dittersdorf, we name it "Ibrahimov's"
This inspired me to order the music and tune my spare bass to Viennese tuning and give it a try. I'd learned it years ago in standard tuning, but this version is so much better.
Truly magnificent playing
Stupendous! Two "monsters" of their respective instruments! Nothing more to be commented!
Amazing, Amazing, Amazing! His articulation is to die for!!
Both of them are amazing!
Absolutely amazing!!! Beautiful!!!!
I really want all these recordings he's done on a CD. That would be an awesome collection.
I need more videos of Rinat in my life
Impresionante. Afinación impecable, siempre.
Thanks for the over the top music making.
17 year old here--I've been working on this piece for three years. I got the music for it near Christmas in 2009 and I still don't have it where I want it. I'm happy with it, but not satisfied. It's my baby; you come to love the pieces that take the most out of you to play, but that doesn't mean it gets any easier.
Learning it was easy--you can learn it completely within a month if you work at it every day. But learning it is just the first step of a very, very long journey.
That was great! More videos of Rinat ! :D
so beautiful! thank you!
I could listen to this guy all day long!
Our Rinat is the King of the double bass.
this must have been a pleasure for both artists to perform this, my participation about mr ibragimov, rest in peace
Bravo Rinat!
Beautiful, thank you!
What an amazing performance! I'm trying to re-learn this piece and my 10 year old daughter is accompanying me. We might not ever get it up to speed but it's better than growing dusty!
Bravo, Rinat!
Wow. Is that even possible?! Piano is fantastic. Bass is fantastic. Music is a gift from GOD
An absolutely stunning performance. All credit to Catherine Edwards. She accompanies Rinat's playing with aplomb. As a side note, ah hell to it the pun is intended 🤣. I'd love to hear Victor Wooten play this on electric bass guitar. I think he'd thoroughly enjoy playing it.
His bass has extreme character,
Bravo, Rinat...I am your biggest fan!
Wonderful all around, terrific pianist and bass player.
Bravo Rinat!!!!!
I love this recording so much! I've listened to as many recordings of this piece in preparation for exams, auditions and concerto competitions (I mean if I can use one piece in different contexts why not save myself the time?) But I definitely keep coming back to this version.
It's incredible playing in every way. I do think the piano is mixed a little high in these recordings. Inspirational.
A WONDERFUL DISCOVERY!
Bravo, Rinat! Great performance technically and more importantly, such a great interpretation. All the best to you from Canada. What a wonderful bass section you must have in the LSO. I hear about it here from my bass guru, Joel Quarrington who lives nearby.
After 6 years still my favorite Dittersdorf, i hope is in good health wherever he is now.0

Mágico!!! Me encanta!!!
One of the greatest works for bass ever written - almost mastered it in HS orchestra, but alas am now older and out of practise.
El mejor de todos definitivamente
vraiment intéressant, et quel jeu !
Wonderful pianist!
angierosselinchan Why would you say that?
Mitchell Ballester He is probably joking, because Rinat Ibragimov is one of the greatest bass players of all time.
she is wonderful
@@ChocChip_ Sorry disagree, love the piano in this. They have good chemistry.
Bravo!
It is a very interesting composition indeed!
I REALLY enjoy his bass playing, a master to say the least:)
Brilliant playing
It’s immediately good as soon as a cellist takes the dbass and plays it.
It worked for me
Probably going to play this after I finish the Vanhal!
I will miss you, thanks for all.
amazing
Love it~♡
So perfect.
@theiudb4265 i was just reading the notes in the urtext edition this morning. apparently "solo" tuning was only a semitone up, not a full tone, as a result, you get Eb instead of E.
I'd love to learn the Double Bass one day...I'd be unimaginably badass like this guy. Cello first, then maybe I could start thinking about it. Great peformance!
Did you learn bass?
Fantastic.
Best of the best!
