    Mannn Ii've been looking for a GOOD shootout of these types of amps for a looong time. I keep hearing mediocre versions but this one literally hits every single part of what we want; them picking, open low notes, chugs, some higher and lower stuff. All very good at demonstrating the character of each amp in a context that makes sense fro the people who are likely looking this video up. Good job dude. If you wanted to really top to off throw in an ENGL but I don't think many people are using those anymore for this style lol

    I think the takeaway is simple. Buy whichever one is cheapest because they all sound pretty darn similar. And that makes sense because they are all based on the same design.

    Hmm, a lot of people in the comment section seem to be saying that the 5150 and Soldano sound similar, somehow to me it sounded like on different demo sections either only the 5150 or only the Mesa sounded very similar to the Soldano, while the other one was different by a lot more. And with all these different scenarios shown I think the winner for me would be Soldano, with the Mesa not being far behind. The 5150 just sounds a bit *too* tight for me, ending up kinda flat compared to the other two. And while the Mesa is undoubtably more full, fatter sounding, it's just personal preference that I think the Soldano sound is the best high-gain tone out there, although I would be crying tears of joy if I were playing either of these. Thanks for this video, this is probably one of the best shootouts I've ever seen and heard, it's very straight to the point and showcases a vide variety of use cases for the amps, amazing job!

    Soldano was my favorite, the Peavey was my second favorite. This comparison made me realize I dont like the Triple Rec as much as I thought I did. But I feel like I'd be very happy with the Peavey 5150. To me the Soldano sounded like a more refined version of the 5150 most of the time. I absolutely understand that it's not. But that's just how it felt/sounded to me. LIke a 5150 with a little extra.

I always felt like the 5150 and DR were fizzy in person but this video confirms it, I'm more of a mesa mark style distortion guy. Just my vibe: as heavy as it gets before turning into angry bees. • @ScottBynoe
      @ScottBynoe  Před rokem +2

      Really depends on what you are looking to do. A boosted 5150 can sound to me just as good as a SLO, especially in a mix no one would know the difference. However, the clean channel and the mid gain tones of a SLO are phenomenal and are miles better than a 5150.
      Also I’ll say, in the room the two amps sound pretty different. Audio samples on CZcams videos are directional at best, take it with a grain of salt.

The EVH definitely has a more fenderish clean tone. But the 6505+/5150II has a better mid gain sound for lighter genres than the 5150 III stealth. Whenever I try to play the lighter stuff on the 5150 it always has a gained out type of tone. You know what I mean? Like the actual gain isn’t that high at all. It just has that very distinctive 5150 sound to it that the 6505+ doesn’t when the gain is turned down. Hard to describe.

    Dual Rectifier always the better choice in a metal mix for rythmic part due to it's grit in middle/high frequencies thant allow you to make the sound darker (alias bigger and more space for other intruments) without sacrifing that grit 😉 The others are more refined choice but less effective.

    • @Alex-dr6or
      @Alex-dr6or Před 11 měsíci +1

      I disagree. Everytime I record with a rectifier I have to boost the shit out of the front end and cut the low end in post as well as boosting the low mids because it sounds too loose and "boomy". It's a great sounding amp for sure but does require the proper attention to get it to sit properly in a mix. The Soldano and 5150 (and whatever other variants) are much easier to fit inside a mix. The biggest challenge however isn't during recording, it's live sessions where you'd have to run an EQ to cut the excessive bottom end and making sure you don't ruin your tone in the process.

    • @ScottBynoe
      @ScottBynoe  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey there, the signal chain for all three amps was identical. I may have had a couple strymon pedals running in the loop but not turned on.

      @@ScottBynoe the rectifier loop is parallel, so if pedals have latency (usually digital pedals have) it may introduce that phase issue! I'm pretty sureI hear it.

    OK, I can make my Orange Crush 15W solid state exactly like that as long as I tune down to D or C# or whatever. My little Orange can not reproduce lead tones like my Marshall DSL 100W. So my question is, why this video? Where's the substance? How about a lead guitar thing like a Warren Haynes or Gary Moore type lead tones for comparison? I hate demos that do one and only one sound for 10:00. Two thumbs down.

    Djenty rhythm is not a great way to really show off everything these amps can do
    Soldano 100 think of Steve vai “for the love of god” that’s what he tracked it with singing leads tones and rich harmonics, 5150! Van Halen baby gots to gets those fingers up the fretboard and get all virtuoso, don’t misunderstand me I’m a chunker down low testicle rumbler 1/2 of the time and love it but you can’t always growl sometimes ya gotta sing
    Mesa dual recto is a better overall choice than the triple, I do own both but that’s just my opinion
