  • Mildred Dilling in 1940 at the age of 47. This 10 minute film was made to be shown as a short before the main feature in a movie theater. She plays La Source by Zabel, March of the Men of Harlach arranged by John Thomas, and Follets by Hasselmans.

That's amazing Elizabeth because she died in 1982 at 88! I'm sure you already know this. I just looked her up on wikipedia. Pisces are so musically gifted! I knew a few, one who played piano for silent movies who was born in 1903 and I knew in the latter part of her life. She had no lessons! She was amazing.

Mildred Dilling was my harp teacher. She told me that if I would stop having an age and would take me as a student because I was told I was too old to take up the instrument when I was 18. So I never turned 24 and have a career as a harpist.

What an unbelievable treasure! 50 years ago in MSMU in L.A. as college nursing student, I began to study the Harp, with no one there trying it. The manual I have to this day: “Old Tunes for New Harpists” ...And now, 30 yrs a nurse, now in harp therapy for 20 yrs- Thank you, Mildred Dilling: That even the least likely harpist plays your final piece in that book: Aloha Oe, by Queen Liliuokalani-in her Iolani Palace in Honolulu. I Thank you, and bless you for this exquisite gift of a lifetime- and now, for you!

And it has recently been uploaded again - this time, in one piece - with an introduction by Peter Bogdanovitch. Again, I had nothing to do with the upload - I simply recommend it to lovers of harp music, as it is quite beautiful.

It's just that these instruments are very expensive and most parents can't afford nor want to pay for an instrument their kid might not even care about as an adult. I just started harp after playing violin for years and although I hate listening to classical music, it's fun to play it or watch it played live

Do not be your own worst enemy, contact other people who play the "Harp" take a look at some of these "Jewish" schools, ask to have them point you in direction of other musicians. Leave your parents out of this, This is going to be where you make up your mind to focus on something you love, If i new your location i could point you in a direction, When it comes to cost, you will have to do your home work there are no guarantees and do not think of how you will feel when you get old you will not get tired of music, Harp is special, you get lots of respect when people see you play and if you are good they will tell you so with the "Money"! Don't give up, and don't listen to "Negativity.

@@SoullessMermaidGames My 36 string harp cost £850. It's got a really lovely sound for what is a cheap harp. I got mine from a UK company called Gear4Music (I live in the UK). This is the harp I've got except mine is black. They do 22, 26, 29 and 36 string harps, also smaller 15 string harps but I don't think I'd bother with them so the 22, 26 or 29 string harps would be good for a child to learn and not break the parent's bank. Harps hold their value, even the cheaper ones.
