  • This is the fourth episode in the build series that follows my journey as a backyard restorer, restoring a 1964 EH Holden panel van that holds sentimental value to me as it was originally started by my panelbeater Dad, who has passed.
In this video, I go about installing an independent rear end with coilovers from a VE Commodore and also an independent front end also with coilovers in order to restomod this classic. I run into some troubles along the way, but show you how I work through it to get everything all bolted up.
Throughout this build series, I share what I am learning along the way and the mistakes I make in order to show you, that anyone can have a crack at this type of restoration (if they have the patience!). I am not a panelbeater or mechanic by any stretch, but love spending the time in the shed restoring these old classics.

My mates dad had an EH back in the eighties ... they had square tail lights the EJ had oval tail lights.. have you got the right parts... loving the build.

Thanks for watching mate…appreciate the support.
Yeah, it is an EH. Only the sedans and wagons changed tail lights EJ to EH. The utes and panel vans kept the round ones. I’d love to buy a sedan and cut the back off to make it a square, but too much work for a backyarder 😂

      Thank you!
I paid $5,100 plus shipping for the rear end, but I believe their prices have just risen so best to check with them. V6 Conversions. Awesome bit of kit though!

Very interesting. The front mount 5mm difference is overcome properly or more fiddling? Nice work, cheers

It’s in there, but had to be forced a little. Hopefully it comes out again when I pull it all apart. I plan on modifying it a little more when back out, so yes, more fiddling. The rears haven’t got bushes in yet but will need some manipulation too when that time comes

I definitely wouldn’t want that IRS crap underneath any holden 4link and a modified ford diff is the only way go less things to go wrong as for that bolted up to the original spring hangers yeah Narr

are you going to install electric windows, seats, steering an sports side mirrors or cut the dash an fit a commo dash? Or better still why not cut an shut a HZ pano rear then you can call it a EZ pano.....But hey you definitely got to have 22inch gold pimp my ride rims

Yeah it’s not for everyone mate but thanks for taking the time to comment. The aim is to keep the original lines on the EH and just modernise how it drives..the essence of a restomod. It upsets the purists, but each mod has been carefully considered from both a form and functional perspective. Dad never wanted it fully original and if it was ok for him, then it’s ok for me. Hopefully you’ll like the finished product so hang with me a check it out ☺️
