- Down at the farm shooting 10 different .17 HMR ammos from 100 yards. Scope seemed to be drifting to the right the longer I shot, but nothing was found to be loose?? Sorry, this is a long video.

You had a lot of wind to deal with. When I got my Savage 17hmr, I used the Hornady 17gr V-max and it consistently put 5 shots inside a nickle at 100 yards. With accuracy like that, I never bothered to try anything else.

Great info your sharing. It took me many moons to find which ammo to use in both my 17's. Best Groups were from the CCI 17A ammo. Great shooting BC!

Good shooting out there! Your 17 is pretty darn accurate. Except for that browning ammo. I don't know why they put their name on such crappy ammo. Remington was a surprise for me too, that shot great! I've never tried the green 17.
TOFD G. Thanks. I appreciate your taking a look and commenting. I have had poor performance out of several Browning ammo now. I was surprised with the Remington as well. I think my scope was drifting a bit, after checking it to see if it was loose, (it was not) I replaced it with another not so expensive scope for the next time. Thanks again and take care.
Thanks for the test. I somehow managed a 4" group from mine at 400 yards in a long range video I did, but mine has pretty much always shot moa or better groups with CCI/Hornady

I never had good luck with browning ammo in any of my rimfire rifles but it sure is a pretty box of ammo. My 93r17 prefers the cci 20gr fmj as well. It is the only ammo mine gets moa groups with. Thanks for the video.

Total agreement on the 20 grain ammo.
I use the CCI V-max varmint 17 grain load in my savage 93r17 I too had complications with the magazine not feeding accurately and almost every shot the end of the casing where the bullet is at the casing has a 1/8” split on them. Has anyone experienced this? I have heard that it is due to the age of the ammo from 5 years or more. My ammo is almost the 5 years mark so I’m going to buy more ammo that has a closer date to see if the information is accurate
My Ruger American predator shoots the federal speer the best. About .5” at 50 yards. Also, I always enjoy your videos and you seem like a super nice guy!
I’m seeing a few red flags that probably impacted your results. Cheap no-name rifle scope that I’ve never heard of before. Windy conditions. No cleaning/cooling of barrel. Rapid fire shooting for groups (+/- 30 seconds per 5 shot group start to finish). Not the best shooting form (lots of movements, poor/no cheek weld, snappy trigger pulls, awkward body posture/alignment with the rifle/lead sled).
Love the premise though, it’s nice to see what’s all available out there to feed our rimfire 17’s 👍🏻

It looks as though the wind picks up towards the end of your video. I noticed it was blowing from left to right from your one loose paper target earlier in the video. I would assume it was wind drift causing your shots to go right. Great vid all the same with a good selection of ammo.

Sometimes when it is a nice warm day, we get winds from the South (left to right facing the target), if it's a normal day the wind generally comes from the West directly into the shooters face. IMO: Either this proves that .17's are hyper-sensitive to a dirty barrel OR this scope was brand new & hadn't settled-in yet (most likely since everything drifted to starboard). Excellent video!

Wow, I’ve been hunting, but especially shooting for over 55 years sometimes competing on the range. But I don’t know if I or my shooting friends ever laughed so hard at a shooting comment as, ‘the scope hadn’t settled in yet’. Unbelievable, if you or anyone has a scope that “has to settle in” you better return it to the store and get your money back. I don’t care if it’s the most expensive, top of the line scope in the world! If it moves, it’s bad, PERIOD!!! NEVER EVER, in the hundreds of times using different scopes with people on the range, have I, or EVERYONE I shoot with, ever, ever heard that one!! I just don’t, and never ever will understand how that comment EVER got said! If anyone thinks that a scope has to settle in, ever think that it’s the shooter, behind the gun, pulling the trigger that has to “settle” in? I’m sorry, that statement is unbelievable and so funny!! To add to that, if you think it has to settle in, please tell how many shots it takes to settle in a scope so the next gun/scope I buy I will shoot that a minimum of times, that you say it needs to be shot, so when I see that deer I will not miss. SORRY!😅😂🤣

@@bobcatforever3485 I like that rifle rest you are using. At my age (83) I'm having difficulty bending over far enough to line up the sights! Can you share some info on it and how comfortable it is for you?
@@pekolucky That rifle rest is a Caldwell Lead Sled. It is fairly heavy and tends to hold a rifle pretty well plus you can add weight on the tray at the bottom if you desire. If shooting off a bench it does raise the gun up a bit. I am a few years behind you, but always great to get out shooting. Take care.

Without some wind flags it’s hard to know why you drifted right. Maybe wind, maybe heat in barrel, maybe getting dirty.

You know a lot of times when you're shooting no matter if it's rim fire center fire Different ammo groups differently and most of the time it has nothing to do with your scope you might be sighted in Bullseye with 1 ammo shoot another ammo it might have a 1/2 inch group itself 4" away from Bullseye You just never know Guns are like people not everyone is the same one gun mot like 100 grain bulletsame gun same caliber might do better with 85 grain bullets Just something for you to rememnext time you shoot ammo and it's not in the Bullseye but has a good group that it's the ammo itself Another thing to add when the barrel gets really hot Your group size will walk all over the place

appreciate you showing all these different ammo. if i can make a suggestion? I think the comb on your stock is to low for using a scope so I am sure if you added some height so you can rest your cheek hard on the comb your groups will improve by a huge amount. enjoyed the video.

@@bobcatforever3485 the expensive fix is a new stock but there are after market strap-on pads you can get, also just to test you could try duct taping a chunk of foam rubber on top just to see if it helps. Good luck

I’m not an expert marksman but I’ve had two savage 17hmr rifles and they both shot much better than that. Maybe you could get some better groups if you’d maintain your cheek weld a little longer instead of racking another round so fast after every shot.

Bill. Thanks for taking a look and commenting. Sad to say but at least half the time I go shooting I'm dealing with too much wind. I tend to go shooting on the warmer days and that is when we get a stronger south wind. Thanks again and take care.
@@bobcatforever3485 all i could think is how much the wind is making the accuracy of this test an issue. at 25 or 50 yards not much but at 100 its gotta affect it. let me know if you find a calm day and wanna try an early morning test when the winds down. cheers,
@@billdolan7442 Bill Thanks. I will have to find a calm day to do the .17's again. I expect that will be a while as the weather here does a lot of changing during the spring. The little shooting I have been doing lately has been mostly handguns where I can stay a bit closer to the main road to keep from getting stuck in the mud. Too bad there are no rimfire cases ready to use for reload yourself, because commercial ammunition lacks accuracy.
