  • In this exclusive conversation with Anupama Chopra, we see Imran Khan give his first interview, post his sabbatical. He talks about what these years were like, and how he put the focus on himself and his mental health. He delves deep into the reasons that led him to quitting the industry 9 years ago, and all that makes him want to still tell stories, from and to the heart. He shares his experiences of being overtly self-sufficient, and what kind of scripts he’s looking at now, in order to make a comeback on the big screen.

That's how you forget to differentiate art from artist.
IF the script justifies the character to use a gun anyway, and this guy fails to see it, he brings his morals into the job, without realising he's just acting.

This interview was pure gold. Reminds us of the innocence of the times gone by. He was truly on point regarding the over the top titillation of violence sans any consequences or emotions. The world where it is right now needs more filmmakers who think like him to bring us stories of our common man. Also, this interview does more for the destigmatisation of mental health problems than a lot of the educational or motivational ones. Personal stories told with genuinity can serve this purpose better than anything.

Ekk Mai aur ekk tu is my most favourite romantic comedy film. Critics weren't too kind to it and not many people watched it but I absolutely loved it, how gorgeous they both looked in it and how beautiful and fresh was the story. The fact that it didn't need the two of them to end up together in the end is something we still don't see too much of. The music was so good. Imran is a perfect example of a 90s kid (I'm the same age as him), who has been unable to come to terms with how drastically and for the worse things have changed in the world - not just the entertainment industry, but the world around him. We were born into simpler times - TV had recently been introduced (Mahabharat every Sunday morning), more personal interaction, friendly banter with everyone, no internet, or cell phones. Days could be spent daydreaming. Everything changed post 2000. He seems like an empath who feels things deeply, and is just not cut out for the cut-throat world of cinema, which looks glamorous on the outside, but is soulless on the inside.

Bang on. Maybe he will show up in smaller stories on digital platforms.. hopefully some of the suits will have some foresight and understand that there are people who will be able to engage with him and what he has to say. Though I don't really have a lot of hope from the suits either. But I believe there are good people in the "system"/"machine". I mean I have to :) nothing much else that keeps us going otherwise.

    • @simonpegg1196
      @simonpegg1196 Před měsícem +1

@@shivani_marmalade It's unfortunate that good people are a dying breed now-a-days. Even more unfortunate is the fact that some of Imran's best years were spent away from the arc lights, but he just doesn't seem like the kind of person who can sell his soul and be able to sleep well at night. May be he can try his hand at script writing - his intellect will come into play. That way he can still be associated with cinema, just that it'll be behind the scenes. Not every good looking person (and especially someone with real intelligence and sensible ideas) can make it big as an actor.

I was always a fan of Imran Khan the actor but today I fell in love with Imran Khan the person.
Talking about your own mental health takes guts. I think this would inspire more men to take therapy and seek help. I liked the way you let down your guard and were open about everything you went through. I really like the idea of having 3 dishes (I might try that as well).
We're surrounded with this notion that life is a race and we must always move forward. If we don't do so, we would be left far behind. But very few people stop to think what do they want with their lives. What is the meaning of life? What is your purpose?
If you weren't an actor, I'd say you could have a great future ahead as a motivational speaker.
This interview definitely made me feel better. It gave me hope.
It was good to see you smiling again! Keep moving forward and do things that make you happy.

31:49 I'm amazed at the sheer capacity of the mind Imran has. He is not just a smart capable individual, but a man with intellect and thought- with vision to narrate the distant future. "Digital Drugs"- a term to coin. We've to remember this as viewers. He's let out something really pioneering- with this.
Thank You Anupama, and Team- for getting him on.
    Cheers!

After watching this. I want this man to succeed. He's got a clear vision on what kind of stories he want to tell to the audience. He's not into money game of bollywood. He's genuinely a cinema lover. May be luck & time wasn't with him back then. I hope he finds that mission factor now. Definitely it feels like he belongs to this time not 2010s. And he's spot on about social media addiction.

The way you have laid bare your intensely personal struggles with managing your emotions, thoughts and setting them straight will educate many people and resonate with so many others who have gone through similar phases. It is really generous and brave of you to have opened your heart despite being a public figure and being a subject of unwarranted scrutiny. Your pursuit of authenticity and simplicity in this ego-driven, delusional world is also refreshing. Hope you get to work in the films you believe in, Imran. Best wishes and healing energy to you 🧿🌸

i know very few times , people like us like to comment , if it reaches anyone, We must appreciate his honesty about life,
life is not fairytale always. and we all go through ups and downs.
cant imagine, from film failures to divorce
they way he handled his demons in his mind, and giving an interview again we should learn from it,
as he speaks , we see the intellect and a fine actor sitting in a black t-shirt.
    god bless Imran
save this gem for good cinema.

He is speaking right from his heart and soul - sure a pure and authentic interview and so so well (intelligently and wisely) articulated. Such Transparency in his self-analysis is heart-touching, so thought through and a much more refined 2.0 version of him, is a treat to see.
The sessions have definitely done him a lot of good as a human - all the self work he has done and the existential questioning and self-searching himself is really really shinning through! Great going! Really happy for him.

I personally really like him as an individual and an actor. He seems very empathetic, sensitive, genuine and relatable person not like other actors in Bollywood. He has gone through a lot emotionally after all that he is talking with so much honesty....it is really brave of him as a man to talk about his fears, anxiety, vulnerability is awesome.
I even liked most of his movies back then and really want hime back on screen.

His presence in the films brought a chill, calm factor. Most of the rom-coms we get today have actors who try to act hard with a nonchalant fashion, but Imran somehow has that embedded in him. Sure, it wouldn’t be fair to compare him with an intense acting portrayal, say in a Vishal Bharadwaj film, but he is a gem for light-hearted films. So eager to see him return and I wish in a Raj&DK romantic comedy feature.
