Personally, the reporting system was such a dumb thing that never should've been added. It's way too easy to exploit, and I bet it has massively. There was clearly no logical thought put into it and was just added half-assed.
I think the issue is that Microsoft’s investors focus a lot on “ESG” and this change allows them to be more compliant with ESG
Yeah well 1) there have been no large controversial instances of players being unreasonably banned (from what I’ve seen) and 2) child protection laws on the internet are forcing big companies, including games like Fortnite, to change their systems to be more safe towards kids

Honestly, I don't mind it too much, I just think that banned players should only be allowed on single player. Removing single player seems more like them trying to get a quick buck off of the toxic members of the community.
I personally think 1.19's Chat Monitoring/Reporting was the most controversial update

@@daridon2483 the glow squid wasn’t bad, it’s just that Mojang never added the hypnotic effect of the glow squid to make the oceans more dangerous or the glow squids ability to illuminate the world as it moves and the recipe for lanterns made from glow squid that could illuminate as you walk instead of needing to be placed. Although Dream telling his hyper large audience to flood the mob vote instead of making their own decisions was very bad. People who could have made their own opinions just followed the famous celebrity.

Since “crap” is also censored, I modded in a sword called Crap (on Bedrock) and equipped it. I died and couldn’t respawn unless I swiped out of MC. Then it was like nothing happened because the world didn’t save. (Yes, the name was censored.)

Nice video. By the way, every player doesn't need to sleep through the night in mp to not have insomnia, you just need to get in the bed to start sleeping to reset your individual timer. Sleeping through the night is not required. This still makes phantoms obnoxious to deal with, but not quite as bad as it could be.
the adventure update is still massively controversial. it changed so, so much to a point where beta 1.7.3 feels like a different game. the world gen, hunger, the focus of the game changing

Honestly the worst for me (and thousands of others) has been the account migration. Many of us bought our accounts through our parents over 10 years ago. I no longer have acces to my purchase ID because it is somewhere in one or my moms past email-inboxes.
So, one day I lost access to my own damn account, an account I had bough and had made me someone who advanced their game for over 10 years. Customer service was HORRIBLE to deal with around the issue, only giving generic replies that didn't help. So I can't launch my game anymore with their launcher. Thank god I found T-launcher. If not I would be forced to buy a new account.
I bought my account in 2014 and had no issues, nor did I have to provide a purchase ID. Was there no other way for you?
@@phobics9498 I had no access or even remembered what email it was originally bought with, the exact date it was bought or the ID. So I sent an email to customer service asking if they could help me in another way, and that I could provide them with evidence that it was my account by logging in and all that. I only got a standard "info" reply back, asking me to provide my ID, which I had already said I didn't have access to. I looked far and wide online for solutions other people had done, but it all included somehow getting acces to your old email or email provider. How did you do it??? I just gave up after a few weeks and downloaded TLauncher and have been happy ever since.
@@fromeveryting29 I was just logged into the launcher, clicked migrate button, made a microsoft account and it just worked.
you probably should use another client than tLauncher. just search up "tLauncher" on youtube and you'll see what I mean
In my case: I had a few times already and now, again, I am having an authorization failure (according to the log file) in Java Edition that prevents me from joining multiplayer servers (luckily I only play singleplayer) and seeing my skin in-game (workaround: a resource pack replacing the default skin that my UUID is assigned to (Alex before 1.19.3, Kai since then).

One is interesting and makes a structure actually worth a damn, the other is a pointless waste of fucking time and an annoyance. so yes, I would rather go through hell itself for an upgrade than have to swing once and wait half a fucking year for a basic feature to be usable again.

And God, complaining the time it takes? It's REALLY not that long at all, worse on Axes yes (however they do have an added functionality in especially PvP... and for enemies in PvE, if you havent dealt with Vindicators or Brutes). Though even then if you REALLY needed, knockback isnt capped in the same way a proper hit is...

For single target, sure. Except groups exist, mobs can pile up close enough and often do. Skeletons, Zombies, Creepers even. It knocks them all back, and I believe it even saves durability.

I've been playin' Minecraft since 2012 and tbh i really like the combat mechanics nowadays, it feels satisfying to time attacks, I never was a fan of the old combat system
For me, I think the community took the worse turn for Trading Enchanted golden apple recipe for gold farm. Considering just how abundant Gold it nowadays in Minecraft, it hardly feels scarce.

You missed that new player base is growing and don’t know anything about 1.9 combat, and the controversy surrounding 1.9 combat update is *VERY* slowly fading, eventually almost entirely of player base will use post-1.9 combat.

Almost all players are on Bedrock edition, so the total combat update hasn't hit them yet. Maybe it never will.
Personally, I loved the combat update.

@@unknownplite You forget that players spend hours refining their 1.8 skills which became useless in 1.9 and later. Plus shields are ridiculous. You cannot fight with only a sword, as your enemy can just hold his shield up. You need to crit the shield with an axe in order to breakthrough which is simply annoying.
Chat reporting sounds good on paper, because even though some servers do there own moderation, you’ll never know if there are bad actors moderating the system. But yet again, forcing chat reporting that’s broken and flawed on servers isn’t a great idea.

@@bullrun2772 the problem is that it takes away power from server staff and what they deem acceptable and not. Hell, it creates a system of false allegations just to get back at someone. Had this existed back in 1.18, a friend of mine would have been kicked off the very server he co-owns simply because we had a couple rogue individuals try to start a literal coups to overthrow him.
I'm still kinda upset about the Enchanted Golden Apple change.
For non-farming players (or at least myself) they were incredible. It would be roughly as hard to get one as diamond armor, and even as a one time use item it was still the best asset you had.
The fact that you can just get lucky and randomly find the (temporarily) strongest item in the entire game instead of working for hours for your ultimate trump card kinda rubbed me the wrong way.
Yes, technically gold ore spawns are random and as such the previous way was also luck based, but it didn't feel like it. If you went out of your way to find gold, you would eventually find some. If you go out of your way to find a gapple now, there's no guarantee you will ever find one no matter how long you search.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I think I've only ever found one gapple before since the change, and it sucks because I always want to use them for banners. Such a needless change that punishes more casual players.
ngl, I actually feel like the ench gapple change was needed. Making it non-renewable and rarer made them a lot more rewarding and precious, not to mention they got a huge buff later on to make up for their increased rarity. It's also incredibly easy to get 72 gold ingots now, especially after 1.16, so if it were still craftable you would be able to get 1 - 3 ench golden apples per bastion (which are not that rare), which is way too common for how powerful they can be.
I feel like Minecraft's gotten too easy in terms of surviving recently, so reverting the ench gapple change is in my opinion going to make this ten times worse
I feel like they should bring it back, but under a different type of recipe. Considering how diamonds are feeling more and more worthless through each update, it would be cool if they were integrated into the Notch Apple. Since you cannot farm diamonds (thankfully), it would make the acquisition of such apples become a complete status symbol.
imagine spending 30 bucks on Minecraft, only to get banned from not only multiplayer, but singleplayer as well, all just because you said the f word and little timmy was upset at that

I want to say that chat report could have been a welcomed addition.
If you could allow banned player on your servers, and no banning from si'hle player as well. And an option to only allow players above a certain age. So that when something explicit is reported its its not banned because the servers is only allowing older players.

i think they shouldve just let it be and have server owners make the rules, with a game as big as minecraft theres servers for older people and servers for younger people so it has to be flexible

Idk about you but phantoms have never been an issue for me. Maybe cuz I always know when they are lurking or I play on times where people arent on but they dont bug me much I actually have a lot of fun fighting phantoms

You revamp the village after the community asks to revamp it and now the game is too complicated. The community is never happy
Love the video. Beta 1.8’s terrain generation was also - and still is - an unpopular change. Also people seem to forget how drawing back your bow, also added in beta 1.8, “ruined pvp” far before 1.9 supposedly did.

@@Iliadic there's more skill involved. Spam clicking isn't an adrenaline rush, it's boring and everyone can do it. Slowing down hits means you have to learn attack timing and prioritize critical hits

EDIT: Major oversight on my end, you can just use /kick from your account, and they won't be able to rejoin even if they've been invited back, until the server reboots, they can no longer join. Did that one by mistake trying to be funny and show off how the command works to my buddy who's hosting on his Xbox, and kicked my self and couldn't join back no matter how hard I tried lmao. Not like it was a day 5 world either, I mean we've logged in about over 30 times so far. Anyway, do that or just use the "/setspawnpoint (playersname) {0 -70 0}" without the (parentheses) or {brackets}. After playing for years and quitting for an equal amount of years to come back to find that the /ban command was removed, literally made me refuse to host a server again that's publicly accessable. At least it is in bedrock, not sure about Java yet, but again removing that feature removes server owners abilities to customize their server. Some people welcome certain hacked clients features while banning others, or if you simply don't like the person and they are a message spammer, now you can't instantly deal with the problem. That's just straight up dumb. Now we're forced to reset a players spawn to a bedrock room with a pressure plate with a command block attached to kick that specific player to "ban" them. Or reset their spawn to the void to ban them. Because I will NOT revert to a "jail" system. Hackers can easily bust out when they want with teleporting or block phasing. I know because I used to be that asshole back in beta, hacking and trolling every server I found vulnerable until I owned it for a slight while lol. But you know what eventually happened? I WOULD GET BANNED THEY GOT TIRED OF MY ASS DESTROYING SOMETHING THEY PAID FOR, not re-send me to jail that I broke out of or the void that I managed to hack and fly out of. Set my ass to visitor? I'll make my self an operator and change that crap. Seriously, they need to bring back the ban command. Next update, or major one at least. If you got banned "unfairly" then you're probably lying in the first place, and if you didn't, appeal to the server and 9/10 times they'll give you a second and third chance depending how bad you pissed off their moderation teams
Well also, if you get banned unfairly, then the server probably isn't worth playing on.

Let's not forget that Phantoms were not the favourite, and the time for which we could vote on it occurred when most people were either sleeping, or at work/school. It feels like Mojang really wanted the Phantom in the game.

PSA for players on multiplayer servers that have doInsomnia on, simply sleeping and being in bed for a few seconds and then leaving it does prevent phantoms from spawning near yoy
4:18 - I don’t know if it’s entirely true or not… but, you don’t have to sleep from night til morning… you just have to enter a bed, not even fully sleeping through the night.
6:00 I don't know about minigame servers, but every single factions or survival server had VIP systems that literally just gave free daily enchanted sets to people who paid a subscription and let them fly around to find bases, etc.
It's been a while since I've played on those types of server but I think the issue persists. Pay to win was and is a huge issue that makes these servers not viable without paying big cash and breaking the gameplay cicle of getting items yourself.

Ay thank you for the video. Yea the combat update is the most controversal even from someone like me who only plays Modded minecraft. Specifically These four packs: Adventurecraft (1.7.3. Beta), HEXXIT (1.5. full release), Millenarie+ (1.7.3. full release) and then when I switch to Valhelsia 3 (It's I think 1.11. Full) the combat was suddenly different 🤯😳 and I had no idea why my attacks were so slow!
Perhaps a consideration of many new perspectives (ex. Someone who plays only modded MC) is in order 😉

I actually liked alot of the changes introduced in 1.9 simply for improving and balancing pve combat, i have always been an avid smp player and survivalist in minecraft so i don't really have an intrest towards pvp in minecraft, i always felt like it was just filled with flaws and you have to restrict certain items/blocks (completely demeaning the purpose of minecraft) otherwise the pvp would be extremely unfair or become a ridiculous slapfight (just look at 2b2t combat) and the changes that 1.9 bringed really just improved the survival expirence for me.
6:50 the thing about the MC feedback banning system with players is not only to protect younger audiences themselves. But also fight terr*rism .

Excellent video! I do find phantoms annoying (and sometimes scary if there’s 6 all biting me at once), but it’s more so a reminder to put down a bed and sleep to reset the insomnia clock. I’m surprised you didn’t have glow squids on your list too, as many community members were disappointed that the mob itself gave off no light levels.
P.S. Your videos are quite high quality; have you had a channel before this one, or do you just have an aptitude for video creation? It’s taken me many years to settle at a level of quality that I’m happy with, though my videos certainly aren’t perfect

No one should complain about the phantom. Out of millions of players complaining there were only 4 thousand votes. That's why you should always vote otherwise you won't get what you desire and cry.
The issue wasnt that no one voted the issue js tht the feature was implemented in an annoying way. When it was announced the phantom won so many people were excited for cool possibilities but on release it was a nussance which limited game play
I used to hate Phantoms, but they have grown on me, they are a alright enemy

I hate the change of making gold and iron ore drop raw gold and iron instead of just dropping the ore blocks which get smelted into the bars. I don't understand why they did that. ):
Yes combat cooldowns and reports are controversial, but if you could get *raw* iron/gold *ore* *blocks* with no silk touch *(just like then),* why couldn't you also get diamond, emerald, lapis lazuli *ore blocks?*

6:21 "More controversial" would mean the two sides of an argument are closer to equal, meaning the majority would be not as large compared to the minority. At least 97% of the Minecraft community hated the reporting system, and no one happily welcomed it because it doesn't actually protect kids from danger. Everyone just understood that it would accomplish nothing, no one that did a legitimately wrong thing would be punished, and a significant chunk of minecraft players would be falsely banned and never get their account back. There was no controversy there.
Also, the "Community Standards" that microsoft forced on minecraft players is grossly misnamed. "Community Standards" is, by definition, set by the community. The standards were set by microsoft in order to control things they have no right to control.
The combat update is one of the best things to happen to minecraft. Shields are a little OP though.

Man like I know of 2 people that legit hated the combat update so much they legit refuse to play on the combat update and any version after it, and ngl I hated it at first but eh the feature has grown on me and idk it’s kinda satisfying to me when I hit a mob with a fully charged hit and the extra damage from axes can make dealing with creepers decently quick
Combat update + Bedrock would be a complete disaster. Remember those of us on mobile are using thumbs only and have to crouch to block!

I don't have complaints for 1.9 or 1.20, if you hate either of these, then stop playing Minecraft and download a mod that changes this. Minecraft is a sandbox game after all!

player reporting was implemented in the poorest way, but it's not a terrible idea on its own.
if minecraft ran its own official servers and thus moderated them (like every other multiplayer game does), then having reporting on it makes sense - but forcing that onto private servers (and even LAN games!) is just stupid as fuck, especially if you can get banned from singleplayer.
thankfully, mods exist that basically remove it (or you can just not play on 1.19.1 & newer like i do), but it's still one of the stupidest decisions microsoft has ever made.
up there with windows 8 and 11.
Personally I think post 1.9 combat is great. I don't know if I'd like Minecraft as much as I do if it stuck with that lazy "who can click the fastest" combat. 1.9 was possibly the greatest Minecraft update I've experienced.
1.9 pvp sucks because it's too campy and defensive, and 1.8 pvp is weird and spammy. Imo 1.8 is better, but both are terrible. There's a million other games I'll go to for pvp before minecraft.
There are updates like 1.10 for beeibg dissapointing and 1.14 because people could get very op early with iron farms, opdiamond villager, totemfarms etc. Also becuse of the texture changes
Besides the reporting system most controversies are just people who don't like change. Looking back now. These changes aren't nearly as bad, mostly just improvements to how Mojang wanted the game to feel

god, the combat cooldown is so awful. I could make a whole-ass video about how dumb it is tbh. I only play modded MC, but one of the first things i ever do is add a mod that removes that godforsaken cooldown.

everything should've made it in, but the vote would determine the order.
phantoms are the most annoying things ever - useless af too - and glow squids are just as useful as bedrock.

I only hate the changes that make minecraft easier, any change the make minecraft more challenging is good, I miss the days of beta when minecraft was a challenging survival building game, now you can become god, when I play with my friends I have to add so many mods and datapacks to the server to make it balanced

I swear, when they added the Savanna M biome, that was the best! Then they changed it to Windswept Savanna and just RUINED it. Especially since it now spawns next to oceans, jungles and swamps? Doesn't make sense. I miss the huge mesas and ultra tall cliffs and deep valleys of the Savanna M biome. The current Windswept Savanna just looks like the terrain was inspired by cluster grenade injuries.

i remember the snapshots leading up to 1.9s release and wondering if mojang would listen to the backlash or not. while i tend to enjoy the new combat more for single player, it’s undeniable that it was a mistake since almost every major server uses plugins to disable it and bedrock doesn’t even have it which worsens the divide between the versions. plus they’ve been doing experimental combat snapshots for a while
