@@SharpElement Real pilots strap the map on their leg so it can't be dropped, i.e. when a rookie pilot does something dumb it usually earns them their callsign, so they remember not to fuck up that way, or any other, in the future.
He's probably doing that so the plane doesn't "bust the box," or the designated training area. The student is lost and note the instructor saying "we're bouncing on the south border." So in this case it's actually mercy that he's jerking the plane like that

I was just kidding....thinking: the bosses I've had....would've done that to punish and laugh, not to teach. 😄 ball busters.... all of them! @@cldus7442 yeah, but keeping your mouth shut and letting the student figure it out for himself is much better than sitting there and insulting him. I had a few instructors (civilian side) that did this type of behavior and it only makes it worse. Being a dick=not helpful
Chiming in to say this is likely a T-45 based on the description saying "SNA," which as an air force guy I'm assuming means student naval aviator. This hud also looks different from the t38 hud, its lacking the flight path indicator

when you are training you need to have fun. that is what keeps people engaged. don't always fault and bitch at them.
