Johnny Gill - Fire & Desire (Feat. CoKo) Engineer - Gordon M. Rice*, Steve Croom Guitar - Randy Bowland Mixed By - Mike "Mix" Tarsia* Producer - Edwin "Tony" Nicholas, Gerald Levert
Sang, Johnny! When I first saw the track listing, I said *oooh I know they gon wear it out*. Not surprised, they did! I wish this style of singing was still popular and marketable for black people.
I remember when this first dropped, I was VERY impressed....I had also just fallen in love with someone. And about 3 months into the relationship, Johnny Gill was in concert in mine and his hometown, Wash, DC..at Warner Theater. And guess who joined him for this duet, halfway into the show?...YUP!...Coko, came out and turned the joint out. Her range was CRAZY..and I recall how real their chemistry was.
Absolutely brilliant.......Johnny is a legend.......& That's the way 'Coko' should sing....I know she has the ability...Thats the best i've heard her sing...
ok did anyone else catch that they both sung each other's song and thats why johnny probably laughed because he didnt expect coko to kill my my my like that, and he had sang weak in the knees!
I thought the music died, but listening to Johnny and Coko singing has restored my faith. I got chills listening to this and I was floored. Just like a fine wine Johnny and Coko have gotten better with time. I am so proud of them. Well done, well done. That was marvelous.
I loved "their" version. They're not trying to be better than the original. This is true ART people. They're artist, and they did a beautiful job. I thoroughly enjoyed both of their voices. Very Sexy duo. Mission accomplished in my book.
Teena was very sick, pnuemonia, 103 degree temp, but she did her job for Rick, when she sang her part on Fire n Desire...........She sang it in one take, therefore earning her the name One Take Teena
People understand Artist don't sing alike!!! It's very hard not to expect Teena's high notes at those times in the song but I love how Johnny & CoKo made it their own!! GOOD JOB J&C!!
A respectable version of a classic.. Of course it's not better than the original.. Johnny & Coko would most assuredly agree.. Doesn't mean this version is bad... Keep doing covers it keeps the older songs alive..
I love both versions!!!! Although the original is usually the best, but this version got something just as good, it got that zing to it. Johnny Gill knows what he's doing here!!!
this is not a contest about who done it better. it´s a hommage. wish ppl would get that already. they pay hommage to a song they probably loved for a very long time.
Yeah keke wyatt woild have slayed this song. But i like this version too. But as another person commented rick and teena sang this song with so much passion and loved that it just killed everything standing
I love this song johnny you go Coco y'all sang the he'll out of this song but I think I could sang with johnny to rest and peace to Rick James and Tina Marie there smiling down on y'all
@MsPeewee59 what have you been smoking? this version is just ok. I dont care who get to sing this song, it will NEVER be done better than the original!!!!
I really love this version better than the Rick James/ Teena Marie version and i didn't think it could be done any better than the original. but Johnny and coko have done an awsesome job. ne of my most favourite songs of all time
I have to agree with some of these people on this board, Keke Wyatt would have been able to sing with Johnny better, because it seems as if he is outshining Coko. He is a vocal beast. I keep playing his verse over and over, it's soooo good
I Believe That If They'd Slowed It Down Just A Little, Deeper Expressions Would've Came From Both Great Artists. Slow, THICK & DEEP 💖 Take Your TIME 😏 🙂.
@ Homipside No I'm not smoking anything! I see that u have not seen the live video of keke wyatt singing If Only U Knew!!! She hit the high notes just as Mz. Patti would. Just as I have said KeKe Wyatt does not her the props as she should!! Her range to me is better than CoKo's, just in her songs she has used them but she has it!!!! Check out that video live in NYC tell me what u think. Johnny n CoKo did a fine job just like Avant n Keke they just fit together!
JOHNNY BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THIS SONG RIP RICK MUCH RESPECT BUT JOHNNY KILLED THIS BUT U ARE NOT SURPRISED U KNEW JOHNNY GILL WAS A BADDDDD BOY BEFORE U LEFT US RIP BRUTHA TEENA MARIE THE BADDEST WHITE FEMALE VOCALIST TO DATE BUT COCO TOOK THIS ONE BUT TEENA MARIE IS THE BADDEST WHITE VOCALIST EVER
Anyone who thinks this version is better should go back and listen to the original again. This doesn't even come close. Rick James & Teena Marie were in a league of their own!
No. Not the same. Johnny didn't represent, Rick was better. That's not to say Johnny is in any way sorry or untalented, but this wasn't a cover that showcased his talents. Same for CoKo. The original was sooo much better
I love JG & I Like the old Coko sound but this IS a mess. I haven't heard a song sound ...... OMG who signed off on this. My first time hearing this and I will never listen again. I'll stick to their other projects.
Where are the high notes from CoKo? It lines and coats the song. and its absence defames the original. If you cannot hit the notes, sit down. Good grief. Why is this acceptable?
Sang, Johnny! When I first saw the track listing, I said *oooh I know they gon wear it out*. Not surprised, they did! I wish this style of singing was still popular and marketable for black people.
+LaCheleWallace So true.. Seems like good R&B doesn't exist at all these days with all the garbage that's put out.
A beautiful remake of the Rick James & Smokey Robison classic. Absolutely electrifying.

Teena Marie owns this cut!!! Johnny does a great job!!! Will miss you Lady T!!! You and Rick touched a lot of hearts!!!!
YASSSSSSSSS COKO AND JOHNNY SANG
I thought the music died, but listening to Johnny and Coko singing has restored my faith. I got chills listening to this and I was floored. Just like a fine wine Johnny and Coko have gotten better with time. I am so proud of them. Well done, well done. That was marvelous.

NOBODY DOES IT LIKE RICK JAMES & TEENA MARIE!!!! NOW I HAVE TO GO LISTEN TO TO THE REAL SONG.
Teena was very sick, pnuemonia, 103 degree temp, but she did her job for Rick, when she sang her part on Fire n Desire...........She sang it in one take, therefore earning her the name One Take Teena
I love this Duo....
Johnny Gill is amazing...He makes me melt..I could listen to him all day everyday!!! Maybe he can sing for my wedding
People understand Artist don't sing alike!!! It's very hard not to expect Teena's high notes at those times in the song but I love how Johnny & CoKo made it their own!! GOOD JOB J&C!!
+Rick Lester Exactly!
A respectable version of a classic.. Of course it's not better than the original.. Johnny & Coko would most assuredly agree.. Doesn't mean this version is bad... Keep doing covers it keeps the older songs alive..
They were flawless.
I think that this is this best that Coko has ever sounded.
.........YES YES YES !!!!!!!!!
i love it they picked the perfect artist for this song
I never knew they had a remake. I like this version also.
i didn't know it either until just now. nice :)
I love both versions!!!! Although the original is usually the best, but this version got something just as good, it got that zing to it. Johnny Gill knows what he's doing here!!!
They killed it!
THEY DID THAT...BUT JOHNNY GAVE IT TO ME
So what's keeping Johnny and Ke Ke Wyatt from doing a duet? Who wouldn't want to hear that??
I'm here for it🙋🏽👀✊🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾👌🏾
That would be CRAZY! Yes!
this is not a contest about who done it better. it´s a hommage. wish ppl would get that already. they pay hommage to a song they probably loved for a very long time.

I really love this version better than the Rick James/ Teena Marie version and i didn't think it could be done any better than the original. but Johnny and coko have done an awsesome job. ne of my most favourite songs of all time
love this song cnt NOBODY sing it like Rick n Tina but Johnny did the damn thing
essa musica embalou muitas noites maravilhosas
That Johnnie Gill
I have to agree with some of these people on this board, Keke Wyatt would have been able to sing with Johnny better, because it seems as if he is outshining Coko. He is a vocal beast. I keep playing his verse over and over, it's soooo good
Love this
@L281173 .....I agree with you.......That's her best vocal performance.......
This shit will force you to do some thangz. “How To Be A Player” brought me here.
I wish Johnny would of sing this song with Stacy Lattisaw
Love this never heard this one sounds nice
he did good
Toot Toot..... too the remake
2018Her🙋
To diznice. We are all entitled to our opinons. I don't smoke anything...lol. I have both versions and i prefer this one
Bad Ass 2o19 still
I wish that Usher and Monica would do a remake of this song.
GOOD JOB, BUT RICK & TINA STAMPED THIS SONG, THEIR PASSION WILL NEVER BE DUPLICATED, MASTERPIECE CAN NOT BE DUPLICATED..RIP
I think its the bomb-sho nuf
I Love this version! I just think that KeKe Wyatt could do it better with Johnny Gill!!!
I Believe That If They'd Slowed It Down Just A Little, Deeper Expressions Would've Came From Both Great Artists. Slow, THICK & DEEP 💖 Take Your TIME 😏 🙂.
omggg it remind me of my baby and meeee
I wish someone upload the original!
i like both johnny & coko, but some songs don't need to be re-done. teena & rick sang it - nothing else can be added to their performances
@ Homipside No I'm not smoking anything! I see that u have not seen the live video of keke wyatt singing If Only U Knew!!! She hit the high notes just as Mz. Patti would. Like this version way better
Its OK OK
@ajaxmonkey i like it too
lmfao, yea right!! but they did do a good job tho.
This is clearly better than the original

whoa...link please?
I like this cover, but it's forced... Tina & Rick were battling about who's passion was greater, and we can hear that in every pounding note.
No. Not the same. Johnny didn't represent, Rick was better. That's not to say Johnny is in any way sorry or untalented, but this wasn't a cover that showcased his talents. Same for CoKo. The original was sooo much better
Usher and Monica no no no
Charlie Murphy
It sounds reel gud but da original is better
you should be banned from listening to this song for saying this is better than the o.g. Lifetime ban for saying that.
JG was strong but Coko was ok.....think Faith Hill might be able to handle Lady T's part better.
Good try but coko cant hit that soprano like tina!!!!!
Sorry this one is better. Both are way better singers..
I love JG & I Like the old Coko sound but this IS a mess. I haven't heard a song sound ...... OMG who signed off on this. My first time hearing this and I will never listen again. I'll stick to their other projects.
@Mz9224 Keke Wyatt?!?!?!? What are you smoking? Keky Wyatt is a great singer, but she does NOT have the vocal capabilities to pull this one off.
Where are the high notes from CoKo? It lines and coats the song. and its absence defames the original. If you cannot hit the notes, sit down. Good grief. Why is this acceptable?
Johnny you have a sweet lovely voice, and I love your music, just sing to me all night long you the best!!!!!
