Back in the day, just like I appreciated Whitney Houston as a powerful female vocalist, I also recognized Johnny Gill as a powerful male vocalist. They were 2 of my favorite "vocalists" back in the day. And I wore out Johnny's song "My, My, My".
This whole album knocked. All the songs could've been singles. I enjoyed that tape like no other. I stayed jackin' it from my dad. This is how I like brothas to sing. Get in there and wear it out. I love his voice and approach overall. #anditsstillallgood
This is my favorite Johnny Gill song. I always loved the part where he sings, "I'll be your bridge" right at the start of the bridge. LA and Babyface could write and produce their asses off!!!
Rocking to this in March, 2023. This song doesn't need a remix!! LA, Babyface and Daryl Simmons have this joint tightly packed. This has to be my all-time favourite Johnny Gill song. Lovr the New Jack Swing feel. Brilliant stuff.
What wonderful music layed out in this song. Listening to the drum and bass is just a dream... Johnny is wonderful, too; but that tempo and rhythm were just impeccable. The keyboard 'break' was placed perfectly on 'top' of the 'bottom' (bass and drum).
Johnny Gill began working on this album while L.A. Reid and Babyface were putting the finishing touches on 5 songs they produced for *Karyn White*'s debut album. Since White was already in studio, they got her to contribute background vocals on 2 of the songs that they produced for Johnny: _Fairweather Friend_ and _Feels So Much Better_. You can hear Karyn in the background during the refrain, particularly at 3:59 singing, *"Fair . . . weather friend, till the end"*
+oubrioko So how did they do whitney's 1991 I'm your baby tonight, Jermaine's album and johnny they seemed to be busy also they had boys to men and bobby's 1991 which was shelved for 1992 mybe due to his touring
+nathaniel608 I dunno. When you're on a creative roll, you wanna keeping it going - so you work at a scorching exhaustive pace, I guess. While finishing Karyn White's album, LA & Face recorded some demos for Johnny Gill and included Karyn as a background singer while she was in studio recording some final vocal comping on her own album. Many months later, these demos were slowly nurtured into successful songs as Johnny recorded much of his album between tour dates during the New Edition Heartbreak Tour in 1988 and '89. His album was mixed in early 1990, and was released in April of that year. While Jam & Lewis were about to mix Janet Jackson's _Rhythm Nation 1814_ album, Johnny Gill was also at Flyte Tyme studios recording *Rub You the Right Way*, *Wrap My Body Tight* and 4 other tracks during the late spring of 1989. Right before mixing each of their songs, Jam & Lewis would go into a percussion sound booth to add live acoustic percussion to the mix (wood blocks, shakers, etc). This helped to give the track a live feel given that electronic synthesizers and drum machine digital samples tended to dominate their songs. Time was running short and they were facing deadlines on finishing Janet's album. They asked Johnny to assist in completing the last song they were about to mix for Janet. Consequently, Johnny is credited with "finger snaps" on Janet's *Escapade*. Whitney's album was produced in 1990 during LA & Face's move from Los Angeles to Atlanta. *I'm Your Baby Tonight* was recorded at Elumba studio in Los Angeles, while *Anymore*, *My Name is not Susan* and *Miracle* were recorded at their new Studio LaCoco in Atlanta. While working with Houston, LA & Face were completing production on the Damian Dame album which was released in the spring of '91. Jermaine Jackson began recording with LA & Face during roughly the same period with some early initial work at Elumba in Los Angeles, but most of the tracks were recorded in Atlanta during 1991 at LaCoco and Bobby's new Bosstown studios. Jermaine's album was released in late October of '91. You are correct about Bobby Brown's _Bobby_ album. It's release date was delayed . . . several times, as I recall. Maybe he was waiting for construction of his Bosstown studios to be completed, but I really don't know. Serious principal recording in earnest didn't begin until mid-1991, and the much anticipated album was finally released during the late summer of 1992. The *Boomerang* soundtrack (which included Boyz II Men's *End of the Road*) was produced during late '91 through the spring of '92. LA & Face went on to produce the debut albums of Toni Braxton and TLC before ultimately parting ways. Face went on to produce *Can We Talk* and *I'm Ready* for Tevin Campbell's 2nd album in '93, and several tracks including *Red Light Special* on the followup album for TLC, as well as *You're Making Me High* on Braxton's 2nd album. Jam & Lewis produced Karyn's _Ritual of Love_ album, Lo-Key, Sounds of Blackness, Mint Condition and Janet's next 3 albums. Both production teams produced movie soundtracks that were released in the summer of '92: *Boomerang* (LaFace) and *Mo' Money* (Jam & Lewis). Each duo also produced multiple songs for Johnny Gill's 1993 _Provocative_ album, as well as producing two unforgettable #1 hits for Boyz II Men: *End of the Road* (LaFace) in '92, and *On Bended Knee* (Jam & Lewis) in '94. These guys were on fire.
I was like 9 or 10 or something like that when this song came out. And I was a huge Johnny Gill fan. However, it's not until listening to the words now I understand how GREAT of a song this is!!

That's a good one Keith "God's love for man!" I never thought of this song this way. At the time I had a best friend who was the epitome of this song and after 30 years we are still besties, but now my eyes are opened :) One day I was having a rough time and said my prayers for the night...the Holy Spirit directed me to Hebrews 13:5 where He said "I will never leave you or forsake you." There is nothing fairweather about that!
Who’s still jamming this in 2020 with me!! JG is the truth!! With a powerful voice 🔥
me Tia Morgan love this tune since it was new from the early 1990s and jhonny gill good singing voice being listening to this again in 2019 and 2021
2022...never gets old...classic soul music
He was blessed to have LA & Face and Jam & Lewis working on this album.
+kirkspencermusic He was one of the few to work with em both like members of new edition, usher, karyn white, boys 2 men and more.

Yep. The "Johnny Gill" album was a no fast forward-er fo' sure!
I used to get his voice and Christopher Williams mixed up
THANK GOD FOR THIS AMAZING SONG THIS IS STILL THE JAM!
Underrated artist.
Try music that is romantic and solo. Listen to the music instrumental alone and the words.
Try something with Marvin Gay or Barry White type of music. But modern with edge.
This man is smoother than silk! Had the voice the look the moves and the sharpest new jack era dressed man bar none.
This is my favorite Johnny Gill song. I always loved the part where he sings, "I'll be your bridge" right at the start of the bridge. LA and Babyface could write and produce their asses off!!!
He is such an awesome singer. I wonder why he never get much recognition?
They all released great solo albums!
He has really evolved as an artist, his music gives meaning and life!!! 😄🔥💝🥰🔥
