Sequel is well worth a watch.
The sequel is soooo stupid. Making a romantic comedy into a random drug kingpin story, so dumb
… and I love that film.
Both of them.
I like 3rd one more than 2nd one
#2 is great. #3 isn't terrible, but it feels tired.
Love the sequel even more than the first one! Lots of silly fun and a gloriously good soundtrack
Crocodile Dundee was the second biggest movie of the year in 1986 just right behind Top Gun. The sequel is just as good and that is when they fell in love in real life and got married. They were married for 24 years (1990-2014) and have one son.
You missed thame joke where Mick looked at Wally's warch before he looked at the sun and pretended to tell the time himself.
And (I think) the part where he switches from a disposable razor to his knife.
You beat me to it. I was just thinking the same thing.
But it can be done, I do it all the time, drives the wife mad. Simple knowledge of where east/west is and an awareness of time passed. I haven't worn a watch in 10 years, not minute perfect but I can get a 15-30 minute window fairly reliably
@muppeteer I was going to ask if you could get it right down to the exact minute, until I read the last part of your comment. I don't suppose people could be as exact as Mick was without looking at a timepiece.
@@ronfehr7899 Minute perfect would be a cool trick but alas I cannot pull that off. I am fortunate that I have a fairly relaxed diary and if I do need to be somewhere specific I do use my phone, just not out walking or sightseeing. It's more of a party trick than a life skill, I suppose our ancient ancestors did something similar. I had an uncle who was a farmer who never had an alarm clock or bedroom curtains, he said "if its getting light I get up and milk the cows. If it's getting dark I go to bed."
"That croc was going to eat me alive."
"Well, I wouldn't hold that against him. Same thought crossed my mind once or twice."
Such a terrific movie...I am sure Mary will love it.
One of my favorite lines from the series
Too bad it was edited out
Davy Crockett (1786-1836) was the "king of the wild frontier". An American folk hero.
"Remember the Alamo!"
Born on a mountain top in Tennessee... Greenest state... in the Land Of The Free...
And strongly opposed Jackson's Indian Removal Act as congressman.
Quigley Down Under is well worth a watch also. A fun Australian western.
And as others have mentioned, the Mad Max series.
I think this movie is a hidden gem, Roy
@@TroutFlyFisherI told ya, only my Roy could hit a coyote at that distance.
I agree. Granted, she jumped ahead and did start off with Fury Road already.😞
While i agree that Quigley is a really good movie, it's not as "fun" as the sequel to this. (Meaning there's way less to laugh)
@@nirfz true, though it really is unexpectedly sweet for how adventurous it is 😊
"Harlem Warlords" implies a teenage criminal street gang.
The actor playing the limo driver was the uniformed cop "Al" in "Die Hard"
And the dad, who was a cop, in the sitcom "Family Matters".
"Please have recommendations like this."
- Well, There's Crocodile Dundee 2.
I didn't see it but there is also Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles.
@@carm3d Yeah, that's the 3rd Dundee movie. It isn't bad, but not really a good movie either IMO. Still, it does continue the story line for anyone interested.
And "Almost an Angel." Same actors, different characters and situations.
Sheila is an Australian term for women. Bush is an English word for wilderness (but most commonly used in Australia). There are a lot of Australian terms and phrases in this movie.
A friend of mine here in the USA is of Australian descent, and he first saw this movie in a cinema that somehow had a lot of Australians present. The laughter at the jokes switched between the Americans and the Australians because the Americans didn't get the Australian jokes, and vice-versa.
The first sequel to this film is worthy. It's just as fun but it also has a villain that follows them from New York to Walkabout Creek and stakes are higher. Strongly recommended.
Another movie you might consider checking out is "The Man From Snowy River". It's not a comedy but rather a western set in Australia. It's also very wholesome and very well done.
I think Mary would love "The Man From Snowy River"! It's such a great flick.
"That's not a knife, THAT'S a knife." Such an iconic line. Also, Dundee and Sue's actors actually got married shortly after this. The chemistry was real.
My favorite line.
Of course, a lot of other people would have probably followed that up with, "Now give me YOUR wallet." :)
"that's not a knife that's a spoon"
They're divorced.
@@lucas.2.3.9.4 I see you've played knifey spooney before.
They didn't start seeing each other until after the sequel.
9:10 He got the time from Wally's watch just before looking at the sun's position ...
When I lived in Australia (1992-2001) there were incidents were people got snatched by crocs as they camped on riverbanks. Also people who broke down in their 4wd in the middle of nowhere, and having not prepared probably, ended dying in the desert.
Mary! If you want more good "wholesome" comedies, watch these:
"Splash" (1984) with Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah and John Candy.
"Roxanne" (1987) with Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah.
"Parenthood" (1989) with Steve Martin, Mary Steenburgen, and a very young Keanu Reeves and Joaquin Phoenix
Is parenthood wholesome? It's a really great film and I don't want to spoil anything by giving away the ending, but overall???
@@Cheepchipsable ….. I see the film as wholesome, as it’s focused on good family life, with parents and their kids solving problems and conflicts, albeit in strange and funny ways.
That is "Splash" not Spash.
@@johnwjr7 …. I hate it when I do that…..😆
This has one of the best endings of all movies. I was around 4 when it came out and It was a good early movie memory for me.
Totally! If we ever came across it on TV, we would stop and watch the end. The music build-up, the running, and the New York vibes never get old!
Another feel good, wholesome movie you would like is Cool Runnings, which is based on the true story of Jamaica's first bobsled team. The coach is played by John Candy.
@cshubs Thank you! We need more reactions to that.
Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, its bobsled time!
COOL RUNNINGS!
oh yea loved that movie also.
aaah.... actually....Mary, when Mick lifted his pant leg to show the crocodile bite scar, he explained, when a crocodile gets a hold of its victim, the croc goes to the bottom and thrashes its victim until it runs out of air and drowns and becomes the crocodile's food. Mick used his knife and the croc let go. Mick called the HUGE, UGLY crocodile scar a 'Love Bite'.
8;59 Mick looked at Walter's watch and got the time just before he did his sun/time trick. He's trying to impress Sue.
This movie reminds me of movie nights with my father when I was young
@jordanlewis8073 This was one of my dad's favorite movies, so I watched it a lot growing up.
"Ruthless People" is a fun 80's comedy that I don't think anyone has reacted to.
Thank you, Mary! 🐊
Crocodile Dundee 2, Quigley Down Under and the adventures of Priscilla Queen of the desert, are another not so known excellent movies.
Don't worry about the roos here. There are more than the rabbits and they are protected however, we do have commercial hunters who are very humane and are only allowed so many to cull based on the amount of money needed for the licence/s(we have camel cowboys who capture for sale overseas) but sometimes, during droughts, they are culled because they starve and eat everything. The cull isn't even impactful to any areas, there are that many. BTW, in the bush, you never drive at night. The wallabies and roos tend to hop in front of you and freeze. The scariest part isn't that, it's the rows of reflected eyes on both sides of the road. All you see are glowing eyes. It's extremely scarey.
😲
Gus was in Die Hard and Die Hard 2 as Officer Powell.
I think only in Italy a bidet is a normal thing (you cannot actually choose not to have one when you build a house or an apartment); anywhere else is a luxury thing.
I moved abroad many years ago and it's still the thing I miss the most. And, yes, you can also use it to wash your feet.
Very big in Japan and I'm sure you could easily have one fitted in most places.
They sell ones you attach to toilets if you are desperate.
@@Cheepchipsable The Japanese are different even though they call them bidet too. The ones we have in Italy have separate plumbing and look exactly like in this movie. You can have one everywhere, but it's expensive, that's why it's considered a hipster thing.
I've suggested down under movies lots. Crocodile Dundee is the first Mary has watched.
The Dark Horse (2014)
The Worlds Fastest Indian (2005)
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)
Muriels's Wedding (1994)
Eagle vs Shark (2007)
The Dish (2000)
The Whale Rider (2002)
The Castle (1997)
Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)
The Piano (1993)
Once Were Warriors (1994)
The Frighteners (1996)
Heavenly Creatures (1994)
There's some real gems out of Australia, check out Murials Wedding, Rabbit Proof Fence, Strictly Ballroom, and The Dish. Not to mention the original Mad Max :)
Walkabout is the number 1 pick
Dont forget Quigley Down Under.
Don't for get Gallipoli and The Year of Living Dangerously.
The Leaving of Liverpool 😢
And The Castle
1) Crocodile Dundee Part II
2) An Officer and a Gentleman
3) Somewhere in Time.
Couple of my sisters' favorite movies from back in the day.
"Sheila" = Australian for "woman", "chick", "dame", "babe", "broad"..... 🤨
it's always a pleasure to share movies with you
I love how he gives Irving his knife as a present.
The second one is just as good.
And if you like movies like this, might I suggest:
-Romancing the Stone(Part 1)
-The Jewel of the Nile(Part 2)
-Beverley Hills Cop saga
-Big(Tom Hanks)
-Captain Fantastic
-Walkabout(Aussie movie)
-Coming to America
-Ghost World
-Grosse Pointe Blank

Paul Hogan also did a western in the 90s with Cuba Goodin Jr, Lightning Jack. It's a fun watch, and it's been uploaded to youtube in its entirety.
I don’t recall if you have done When Harry Met Sally, or Joe vs. the Volcano, but they both have a similar romcom wholesome tone
No one's mentioned "That Thing You Do," but I think it's just the kind of thing Mary would love.
Davy Crockett is a historical figure that's like an American folk hero, that was known as a frontiersman, that existed in the wild country in parts of the US before they were very populated or tamed, so to speak. Later he became a politician, and had been in the US Congress, and then got involved in the "Texas Revolution", if you want to call it that. That's another American thing that you're probably not familiar with, but at that time, pre the Mexican/American War, much of the South West of the US was still part of Mexico after having previously been colonized by the Spanish. Yeah, we once actually did have a war with Mexico in the 1840s, which is when we defeated them and claimed that area as our own, and is often considered the training ground for our Civil War that followed fifteenish years later. Anyways, prior to that the Mexican government agreed to allow American settlers into what became Texas, under the condition that they become Mexican citizens, and abide by Mexican law, primarily the part that insisted that slavery was not allowed. They didn't, and just ignored Mexican law, just did what ever they wanted to, and when the Mexican government objected, they just insisted that Texas was now theirs, which instigated a war with the Mexican government. Perhaps you may have heard of The Alamo, which was an old Spanish mission that the Texans were using as a fort, and many volunteers, including Davy Crockett, came to help defend the Alamo, and they were all destroyed by the larger Mexican Army, but the incident inspired more people to fight and eventually defeat the Mexican Army, and Texas briefly became an independent country of its own, or so they claimed, before being annexed by the US, which eventually kicked of the larger war between the US and Mexico, which we eventually won.
Anyways, Disney had a Davy Crockett TV show in the 50s or 60s, Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier, as well as, well, now a couple movies about The Alamo, which further established his legend in American culture. I'm not sure how historically accurate it is, but he's often portrayed as wearing a racoon skin hat, which after the TV show became a popular thing, and sometimes in things that portray that era, you'll see a child wearing a coonskin cap like that. Probably sounds very weird if you're not American, but it is a very American thing.
I don't think most people under 30 have seen this movie, but almost anyone had heard the quote "that is not a knife, THIS is a knife!"
The ending part where he walks on top of people is similar to how Australian Sheep Dogs run across the backs of sheep when they are packed tightly together.
23:15 Elevators are unique because you're only in it for a minute or so, not really long enough to start a conversation and once you get out you'll probably never see these people again.
The thing about not going in the water after watching Jaws, is not just limited to you but it was a world wide effect lasting for decades.
There are Alamo references in this movie. Walkabout Creek Hotel resembles the Alamo, Sue calls Mick "Davy Crockett", while Mick himself carries a Bowie knife.
0:36 I love how she showed us where she was ♥
31:25
I do. Everyone always tellin me "that dog bites"🐺 😂
They end up guarding me💖
Not a fake kangaroo suit. It was the dead one he was propping up there.
When Mick told the time if you notice he looks at Walters watch first. He was just pretending to use the sun for showmanship.
Newsday is a real NY newspaper (Long Island, actually). I've worked there for almost 30 years. The office scenes were shot on location, though they moved to a different building shortly before I was hired.
9:20 _"Doesn't know what day it is, doesn't care. Lucky man. That is so true, right? When you can be so careless, you don't even know what day it is. Not many people have that luxury."_
I think you mean to say "carefree", not careless. Carefree is a compliment. Calling someone careless would be an insult.😄
9:16 As someone who works from home I often don't know what day it is until I check.
Nice, what did you have to do when it is 420?
Lord of the rings was filmed in New Zealand, mad Max takes place in Australia
I remember hearing wolf whistles from the guys in the movie theater when Sue removed her pants to refill her canteen with water.
Similar romantic adventure movie(s), Romancing the Stone, and then Jewel of the Nile. 1984 / 85.
Not an "Aussie" film but close enough: "Hunt For The Wilderpeople" and after that gem, there's also "Boy" from the same director, Taika Waititi. Wholesome & tons of fun! Cheers from Amsterdam
Paul Hogan Forever !!!🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🐨🐨🐨♥️♥️♥️
I wonder if you caught it in your edit, but right after Mick scared off the poachers, he actually said, "Thanks, Skippy. "
A phsychologist is someone with training/a degree in psychology. A psychiatrsist also has a medical license. If you (can) get drugs, it is a psychiatrist.
Yes Mary, Seasons in the south are different. Here in Brazil we're entering autumn.
I loved this film growing up
Great reaction, Mary! I love this movie and its sequel, which you'll definitely want to see. Paul Hogan, who played Dundee, did more for Australian tourism in the 1980s than their entire tourism board. I remember everyone talking about how great he and the movie were. He's an incredibly charming fellow. G'Day, Mary!
Curiously enough, the movie actually kinda sorta mirrors their Dundee and Sue's own history.
Paul Hogan was married during the film, but hit it off with Linda Kozlowski on the job, Divorced his current wife, and re-married together between this movie and the sequel.
They later divorced as well, but on very amicable terms.
For your romantic side to know, both got married in real life not too long afterwards.
Linda Kozlowski co-starred in Crocodile Dundee (1986) with Australian actor Paul Hogan, and two years later in Crocodile Dundee II, when they became a couple. They married on May 5, 1990, after he divorced his wife Noelene. They tried to settle in Australia but moved to Los Angeles in the late 1990s.
Kozlowski and Hogan have one son, Chance. Kozlowski had been married once prior to her marriage to Hogan. In October 2013, Kozlowski filed for divorce from Hogan, citing irreconcilable differences.
Its illegal to kill, buy, sell or possess a kangaroo normally, however when then numbers are over a certain number then certain people can get licenses to cull the numbers.
Other Oz based films include but not limited to, The Dressmaker (Kate Winslet) Muriel's Wedding (Toni Colette) The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert (Guy Pearce, Memento, Hugo Weaving as V) and Terrence Stamp.
In the US, a psychiatrist is also a licensed medical doctor and may prescribe drugs. Either a psychologist or a licensed therapist are not medical doctors and may not prescribe drugs.
Now you get the Croc Dundee reference in Tropical Thunder.
Having a bidet isn't about being fashionable. It is about being clean. I think there should be one in every household that can afford it, as well as public bathrooms. It just doesn't make sense when you get poop on you to just wipe it with a tissue. You wouldn't do that when you get poop on your hands.
Btw - Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee) and Linda Kozlowski (Sue Charlton) got married for real a few years after the first 2 movies were made. Unfortunately, that marriage ended after 23 years.
RIP Mark Blum. The greatest of the smarmy 80s yuppies.
I don't think you caught when he was shaving with a disposable razor, then when he switched to a knife to "impress" her, he tucked the handle of the disposable razor into his belt in plain sight.
This movie is good, the sequel is better.
When in New York, there’s two things you got a try, the proverbial, dirty water, dog, or the shish kebab and hot sauce
Also, New York pizza and New York bagels. 😊
Great Australian movie is Strictly Ballroom.
A fish out of water story, it's basically "Tarzan's New York Adventure"
Demystification:
"Sheila" - Australian slang for a woman (though I think you figured that out as you went along)
Davy Crockett - Frontiersman, politician, and folk hero from the early days of the United States. AKA "The Coonskin Congressman." He died at The Battle of The Alamo in 1831. There was a five-part TV show based on his life in 1954-1955. According to the theme song, he "killed him a b'ar (bear) when he was only three."
Harlem Warlords - Not a sports team. A gang. The implication is that Gus was a pretty tough guy.
I think public proposals suck. The person on the receiving end should not be put on the spot like that. No matter how sure the person is, the one doing the proposal should do it in a place where a "No" won't cause any more embarrassment than necessary.
Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski met during the filming of Crocodile Dundee. Hogan was married to Noelene Edwards at the time. Hogan and Edwards divorced in 1989, after the filming of Crocodile Dundee II. Hogan and Kozlowski married in 1990, and stayed together until 2014.
If you want to learn more about the legend of Davy Crockett, you should check out the excellent film, "The Fantastic Mr. Fox."
Paul Hogan and Linda Kowalski were married, I'd watch them in " Almost an Angel " another great underrated film
👍
Mary, you will adore "City Slickers". It's such a feel-good comedy.
His friend the black taxi driver played the policeman in the movie Die Hard who Bruce Willis was talking to.
Merci Mary ! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
16:00 An Australian trying to tell an American how to use a firearm. That is.. uncalled for 😂
Americans talk to strangers, but we definitely don’t say hi to people getting on the elevator
Best recommendation like this... Crocodile Dundee 2. Basically a continuation of the first one. I think it's just as good.
31:01 there is a fantastic movie called “Australia “ and it’s about some of the darker history of their country , Jackman and Kidman with a few other great names and it’s filmed there
i love a snobs vs slobs movie, because the snobs, objectivity, view themselves above the slobs and are always proven wrong. ❤😂
the twist and turns of life is not objective and never will be. 😂
The next 2 in the series are just as good. And the two of them did another movie worth watching called "Almost an Angel."
The biggest box office Aussie movie ever
I saw this at the cinema when it first came out here in Australia
This was an amazing movie when it came out. At the time, most Americans and those in the west didn't know much about Australia or the life there, people, etc. This was really the first introduction other than maybe the nature channel to the "Australian" way of life and people, and Paul Hogan was the first Australian superstar that most people encountered and knew about. Of course later you would have great people like Steve Irwin and his family, and then a huge influx of Australian actors and stars that ramped it up like Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie, Chris Hemsworth, and many others. If i remember, before this movie came out most Americans really just knew the continent and not much else, it wasn't popular or known in western cinema or was many actors from the continent.
its pretty common to ride in the front of a taxi in Australia, particularly when you are travelling alone. if you sit in the back alone its almost like your saying your 'to good' to sit up front with them.
Fun fact the King Brown is in the Cobra family.
He would have been given the nickname Donk as he is strong, a Donk in Australia is old slang for a motor, donks died, means the engines in the car or truck is dead, Hi from Australia Mary :) In real life Paul Hogan ended up marrying the woman in the movie.
Yes it is illegal to shoot kangaroos however every now and then the Government will cull kangaroos because there are so many of them. They absolutely thrive in the outback and bush, which is most of the country, due to their ability to travel long distances, cope with the climactic conditions and they have very few predators. A sheila is Aussie slang for a woman. The sequel is just as good, if not better but it starts in New York and they end up in Australia. Another good Aussie movie which i think you would love is Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. Also, Muriel's Wedding is quite fun too.
Consider vacationing around Priest Lake, Idaho in the US. There's Upper Priest Lake where no motorized boats allowed and there's no motorized vehicle access. There's Priest Lake itself with resorts and vacation rentals. There are alpine lakes above Priest Lake in the Selkirk Mountains with hiking or mountain bike access only. Hiking the Selkirks is amazing (but probably infeasible with a little one). Grizzly bear sightings are rare. Attacks almost unheard of, but don't watch The Revenant before you visit.
Another amazing reaction, thank you. Mary, I'd love to see you react to 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels'. It's a very clever/twisty comedy.
14:17 No there is not. Kangaroos are seen by most farmers as a pest who ruins crops and grassland.
The Sequel Crocodile Dundee 2 is even better
In Spain we got to know Paul Hogan through "The Paul Hogan Show", a sketch show similar to the British Benny Hill show. If you want to see the prevailing machismo of those years and at the same time have a few laughs, I recommend both of them, especially the British one.
The ending of this movie is one of my faves of all time.
"I see you have played Knifey, Spooney"
The problem with awkward silence is that you think it's awkward. Just enjoy the silence! There's not much of it around these days.
For another Paul Hogan movie I like I would recommend "Almost An Angel".
👍
*Short Circuit*
One of my favourite films I pretty quote or reference it every other day.
I remember watching Skippy when I was young. Of course I remember the song to, or at least part of it.
I used to watch it after school.
"Skippy, Skippy, Skippy the Bush Kangaroo,
"Skippy, Skippy, Skippy, a friend ever true."
@@bobbuethe1477Thanks for reminding me of the rest of the words.
@@ronfehr7899 Those are the words I remember. I hope they're right. 😊
