Omg I’m watching this back now for the first time …. I would have never imagined that when I made this video last year my dad was happy and healthy. I remember thinking how I couldn’t cope if I lost my dad. Cut to today he got the news he had brain cancer 2 months after I recorded this and I lost him 2 months ago… i miss you daddy . I want him back so badly 🥲

I was flown home from Afghanistan to be with my family as my father was dying. I got to my parents house and was rushed into my dads bedroom. Mom made everyone leave the room. I sat holding my dads hand. He looked at me and for the first time in my life I saw me dad shed tears. He said "I waited for you son. I want you to know how proud of you I am.". Twenty minutes later my dad took his last breath. I sang this song at his memorial service. He was my hero. I hope I'm half the man he was.
I love you guys. Y'all are a great couple.

My Grandfather raised me. When he died, all of his kids (aunts and uncles) only cared about his personal possessions. They were calling the cops on one another over his belongings while I spent three days sleeping on a funeral home bench next to his open casket. This song hits me hard. He gave everything to raise me right. I didn't miss the stuff he owned; I missed him.

This reminds me so much of my father. This coming March will be 5 years since he passed away. I stayed by his bedside night after night. His drs told me that he wouldn’t last anymore than a day or two when he left the hospital. He made it almost a week. I told him after a couple days that is was ok to go & that I would make sure mama was taken care of. He couldn’t speak by this point, he just cried. I figured out exactly what he was waiting on. My son was unreachable bc he was in the US Army. I called the base & American Red Cross had him home early Saturday morning 1am. He said his goodbyes to him. Daddy passed at 10:15am Saturday morning. He was waiting to see my son.

He helped me heal as much as I helped him. He died a few years later. I'm glad for every moment that we had. This song is very personal to me. My dad died at 65. By then I was already married and divorced with three children of my own. He never said "I love you" until the time I boarded an airplane to join the Army at 18. He showed it a million ways, but never said it. It was the one thing I did differently than him. I told my kids how much I loved them every day. If this sounds like a complaint, I don't mean it to. He was an amazing father. (Coached my peewee teams, taught me to respect women, and a hundred other things) This song reminded me of him and brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for this.

Gitana, this is why I've loved country music since I was a kid. Country music is about life. Be it good or bad, fun or tradgety, a country song has been written about it. This song came out just after my father past away , and just before my son was born, both in 1988. It royally hits me so hard to hear this song. I miss my dad so much, even harder when I hear this song.

I spent ten years in the U.S. Army, and I left the service when we decided to start our family - I didn't want my kids to deal with the same kind of loss. The thought of leaving them is what got me through multiple fights with cancer; I was going to survive for them.

Hi guys. A little info and trivia for you. Conway's career started in the 50s. In 1957 he decided that his real name (Harold Lloyd Jenkins) wasn't catchy enough. He looked at a map and found Conway, Arkansas and Twitty, Texas and there ya go. Interestingly the movie Bye, bye Birdie was inspired by Elvis' being drafted. Well the Elvis like character in the movie was named as a kind of parody of Conway who was a teen heartthrob at the time. The characters name was Conrad Birdie. Conway is in the Country Music and the Rockabilly Halls of Fame. He became a huge star when he started doing more classic country, especially his duets with Loretta Lynn. I have a suggestion for you that has nothing to do with Conway. Don't know if you've ever heard of Maria Muldaur, but she had a song that was really big in the 70s. Here is the link to a live performance of her singing Midnight at the Oasis. Stumbled across it recently after not having heard it in years. Curious to see what you think. It's one of those things that people seem to either love or hate. LOL. Hope you enjoy. You two stay safe and well.

Now at the age of 50 I'm the oldest one left on my dad's branch of the family tree.... so yeah, feel the lyrics, the emotions.... we're all right here with you... it's like we're all giving and receiving shoulders to cry on... and it makes a world of difference.

His band was Conway Twitty and the Twittybirds. A great singer. Check out his duets with Loretta Lynn, and keep up the great work . I enjoy your reaction videos more than all others Oh, and by the way, and I mean this in a complimentary way, you are very funny and would make a good comedian.😎👍

I love how the the song concludes with the verse coming from his perspective and referring to it being his job to "come up with a song to say, 'I love you'" since he's a songwriter and a singer.

I went to one of his concerts in 1983 and it was not a big fancy production. But when that man walked out and picked up the microphone and cut down on Hello Darlin! The place exploded and the concert was on! All he needed was that voice,l Totally awesome, I loved his voice and his songs Awesome entertainer

Sometimes I think songs like this are even harder on those of us who never had that relationship. Songs like this just bring home what you should've had and wish you'd experienced. Your heart breaks for what you've never had to lose.

Hey Gitana, i jist came across this video and as one of your more silent subs i just wanted to take time and say how cool it is that your reacting to conway twitty for the first time. My dad loves conway as do i. Mainly because conway was a favorite of my grandads and this song is especially meaningful to my dad for that reason if you go back look up pics of conway twitty he wore his hair slicked back and so my grandpa did too. Did this for decades up to his passing. Thank you for sharing it.

I grew up in Hendersonville, Tennessee where Conway Twitty lived along with Johnny Cash and many others. Conway Twitty bought a large piece on land on the lake front and opened a Theme park, music venues and he and his family lived there. He named his park Twitty City. Always made me giggle. It was sold when he passed away.

Conway was a rocker in the fifties with Elvis his most famous song from that era "It's Only Make Believe". Then he went country in the 60's 70's and 80's. "Hello Darlin" probably his most famous song. Then in the 80's he sang "Tight Fittin Jeans". He made whole albums with Loretta Lynn probably their most famous song "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man"

"Woke up early one bright fall dayTo spread the tragic news."I can really relate to this. Admittedly it was my mother, but I still remember the day that started with my telling everyone that she had gone. We take our parents for granted, until they are no longer with us.

FYI....At the beginning they are playing TAPS and doing a 21 gun salute (3 volleys by 7 rifles) This is done when one of our fallen military are laid to rest...

  • @tgates0314
    @tgates0314 Před 2 lety

The opening with the flag, in the beginning, was an honorary military funeral. It is the bugle playing 'Taps' with 7 rifles firing 3 times (known as a 21 gun salute). In person, it is a very emotional moment. It is followed by presenting the folded flag and the brass casings from the salute to the family .

He died in 1993 with more #1 hits than anybody, in any genre of music. Known as "The Heartland Heart Throb" in his early years of Rock and Roll, Conway turned to country, and became known as "The High Priest of Country Music!" His first big hit was "It's Only Make Believe" in 1958.
