Champa Thanks for your question! For the most part it is fine to put air in the vial before drawing up. EXCEPT: Methylprednisolone (solu-medrol) and Hydrocortisone (Solu-cortef) come in a vial that allow you to mix the powder medication with liquid and will cause the medicine to squirt out if you add air. Pantoprazole (Protonix) also has to be reconstituted with liquid (normal saline) and will also squirt out and make it difficult to draw the medicine up if you have added air first.
ummm....what happened to cleaning the top off with alcohol before inserting the needle???
Could you please explain situations/drugs that you would push air into?...so that you dont draw back air?
