HBO Backstories: "Watchmen" - Zábava
The POV of his dad sitting at the side of his bed handing him the Watchmen comics is the same as Comedian crying while talking to Moloch in the comic haha.
Also the news vendor from Watchmen made a cameo, pretty neat little animation.
@@MrJakePaddy And one of the adults at the comic convention is Rorshauch's psychologist 1:03
0:47 Rorschach?
Not to mention the moment he begins to read, he turns into Osterman's nervous system, brain, and eyes. There's many great references here.
3:21 comedian crime scene
"you're not ready for this" made me smile so much! When his dad exits doing the mind blown gesture, it's so adorable lol
I love how that scene is designed to look like Moloch's bedroom when the Comedian comes to visit him. Really terrific video.
That’s how I feel when I show watchmen to the young comic book readers I know.
@@josephmorales652 My dad and I had a similar exchange when he gave me my copy of Watchmen. I was the same age as Lindelof :)
Romy Smith dang that’s cool! I wish my dad was like that 😂 I definitely read/watched it while my parents were out of sight
"...and he just walks away, mysteriously."
“It’s 1951, my dad is 11 years old”
Well played, Lindelof!!
The “you’re not ready for this” was good
No it's not, as a writer that's is the best believable thing he could come up with? who talks to their son like that?
This is the most heart warming thing I've seen a ll day.
Indeed

@@Spyweb88 f
@Uncle Lucifer Zed Really heart warming indeed.
As long as you ignore the gross mistreatment of Alan Moore
The animation in this video is great. looks just like Dave Gibbons and John Higgins. Nicely done HBO.
I love how Dave Gibbons art has a retro 60s art to it
@@daustin8888 retro 70s to it.
Unless you mean designs of cigarettes and other Watchmen world building stuff, still.
There are so many graphic references to Watchmen in thsi video, characters, panels, setting drawing, colors. I love it
One of the comic book seller is the same as the one in watchmen
Thank you for stating the obvious about one of the most legendary graphic novels of all time...
@@sadalien9898 Doctor Long was also there.
As a person who collects comics in 2020 (after a pandemic that cancelled conventions and delayed comic book releases), watching this makes me happy
I want Damon to write another comic book series
He's writing a green lantern tv show
Now I want an animated Watchmen mini series.
Right!!!!
They already made an animated motion-comic. It was released the same time as the movie and was included in the Ultimate edition. The whole thing should be on CZcams; look up "watchmen motion comic". The animation effects are pretty good for a motion comic, but it just has a single narrator, and he can't do female voices.
Fun fact- In-Universe, a Saturday morning cartoon based on the characters was in development
It exists
There was supposed to be an animated watchmen movie, it was announced at the same time as the killing joke movie or the live action series if I'm not mistaken
pretty and simple.. his dad was a hero. That's amazing
The amount of detail and references to the comic book in this video is insane. You can tell the people that made this really cared about it.
Ha! The comic book vendor is the News stand owner in the watchmen comic!
Bernard
@@remc0s hey that's my name
@@Spyweb88 No, your name is Ian Rothe.
@@remc0s so? Ain't no big deal. Lot of people called Bernard, man. Don't signify for nothin'.
You can also see Rorschach carrying his sign at 0:47, the psychiatrist at 1:04, a smiley face pin at 1:27, Seymour from the Frontiersman at 2:23, and some dude smoking one of those weird cigarettes with a ball on it that Lori smokes at 2:26.
There might be more but that's all I caught.
I gotta say, that rebuilding the original collection is an amazing thing, and I wonder how many people want just ONE chunk of their childhood to be preserved like that.
What I wouldn't give to have Marvel Premier #42 featuring Tigra again!
Love how the coloration / POV angle for the "You're not ready for this" part is so similar to Eddie Blake's drunken visit to Moloch in the comics. Even this short clip has the same attention to detail as the series.
I love the color palette, it looks exactly like Watchmen.
This was so well done. Thank you Damon Lindelof and HBO for the beautiful series
I know this ended up being a small story and a short video, *but I honestly would follow a mini series that talks about this boy, his family, and his relationship to comic books and Watchmen. This video was more wholesome than I was expecting it to be. Make it happen, comic publishers.
Like Martin Scorsese said- "The most personal is most creative". This really personal incident of Damon is what lead him to make such a great TV series since he poured his heart and soul into it!
Harvey Keitel in his Taxi Driver outfit at 0:45
Yes
0:47 there is rorschach
@@pavan_kumar556 the end is nigh
This so lovely!! What kind of heartless people who disliked this heart warming video??
People who hated the endings of Lost and Prometheus
Kadeem John people who hated watchmen 2019 for whatever nonsense
because of how he made a sequel television series to Watchmen, but did it as a remix, changing much in the process (in characters, their races, their motivations, their actions, and the consequences of those actions) and making viewers dissatisfied.
@@bryaghommadon9485 Literally not a single character, race or motivation was changed, did you even watch it?
Ya know it's full of new characters, right?
@@Peasham i think hee referred to the changes they made, like hooded justice's origin.
wow incredible. please release an entire show in this art style. really inspiring... one day that little kid would make the watchmen tv show. wow.
This is the best Watchmen homage I’ve ever seen. The secondary colours, the time jumps (it’s 1978), the panel tributes, just perfection
I wish allan moore would get off his high horse and see how his work impacted people positively, and just embrace watchmen for what it is, his magnum opus..
I was so sad by this man... As much as I love DC, they really created a lot of bitterness and unhappiness between their most amazing comic creations.
I'm out of the loop. What did he do?
@@kdawghomie the funny thing is...even Damon, the creator of the HBO show says that he's alright and he already knows Alan isn't gonna like his show😂
He's been so humble and understanding and the guy is just hating everything.
@@kdawghomie
Alan moore hates everything
The series and movie is "Watchmen what it is"?
No wonder the series was so good. This man was destined for this. Imagine how proud he's made his father
His father passed away a long time ago.
@@kuhpunkt I was wondering whether his father was still alive or not.
@@jamesmartigo Have you seen LOST?
This was great. I'm surprised that hbo is still producing this kind of content for the show. It's been almost a year since it debuted.
Probably because it’s won so many awards
Thought this was going to be an animation of the actual comic but was not disappointed, this is excellent storytelling and animation!
Wow! This is amazing, from Damon's story to the animation. Would love to see a full series with this style. Really inspiring. 🙌🏼
This is so good. Animation looks just like watchmen comics. Love it.
Thank you for this story, Damon. Needed it
That was a really beautiful story like seriously I would love for HBO to do more of these
This was so much good vibes, thank you very much for putting it together
This is why people should do comic book movie/shows etc. It takes passion and true love for this.
This is one of the best and sweetest video on CZcams. The dad is super cool.
That was beautiful, from the story, to the art style. Fantastic.
I love Watchmen, the books, movie, and I especially loved the series, it was the perfect epilogue to the 2009 film.
this video is so warm and nice and i love it very much
All the references are incredible.
I love that this video is visually faithful to the Watchmen comic. Shows just how big a fan he is.
Oh, to live in 80's and have to wait for a new chapter of Watchmen every year.
They released them yearly?
monthly
@@roddyb33 With A LOT of delays.
Maybe that’s why DC keeps printing new copies (besides screwing over the original creators)?
Thank you for this. It’s the perfect video to start my day
Loved the animation in this!
this is perfect in every way and I wish Damon Lindelof all of the success
I haven’t seen his work but it’s a nice story here and I hope him the best even if a lot of people wish his head on a stick .. “ no offense but CZcams is a place for many critics who puts politics/culture into everything instead of enjoyment or something like that “
What a life.
Thanks for making me cry David
Why am I crying right now! This was so wholesome :')
What a wonderful way to tell this little story.
Love this! And the crew that animated it ;)
The tan line on his father’s finger where his wedding band was is too close to home.
Aw that’s so sweet
Also Doctor Mid-Nite and Johnny Thunder, AWESOME!
Fantastic origin story and amazing animation. Love this!
This is absolutely fantastic!!
Love how certain scenes in the skit look exactly like the ones in the book
0:45 Is that Sport from Taxi Driver?
Watchmen has Taxi Driver has inspiration
Rorscharch himself has met Travis Bickle in the comics

@mauricio madrid Good catch!
Omg this is so heartwarming 😭
OMG, I couldn't love this any more! The EXACT same thing happened to my father (my grandmother trashed his comic collection one day while he was at school).
OMG!! THIS IS THE BEST ! I love it
i just loved this
We need more of these "How We Started to Read Comics" videos!!! This was awesome!
This animation style fits his story so well!! I was thoroughly engaged the entire time. 😊
I read watchmen for the first time when I was 13, absolutely changed the way I thought about comic books as a medium of art. Here was a nuanced and intense story that could really only be experienced in comic book form. Flash forward and I'm in my 20s, I just bought a new copy from the Target I work at. I'm reading it and the text takes on a completely different meaning for me. The story now hits deeper and causes me to ponder more thoroughly what it's really trying to say. Basically Watchmen is an absolutely incredible book that not only evolves as the reader does, but has a sense of timelessness as many of its themes are still relevant today
I love this! This is so sweet ❤ now give me the Watchmen animated adaptation !!!
In a perfect world people would always be that passionate about the IP they are given the opportunity to create for
This was so good!
What an incredible animation. I love it.
I love how they used the colours from the comic.
That was really sweet.
Love all of the parallels to the comic.
Beautiful
Simply amazing.
My mom threw out my classic collection of toys from the 80’s when I was at school. She said I didn’t need them because I stopped playing with them years ago 😂 I didn’t even keep them out on display I kept them in a box with under my bed. She did didn’t even donate them to the younger children in my family. Some of them have gone up 10X in value. Thankfully my box of comics was too heavy for her to move on her own. When I was in high school she threatened to throw out my PS2. I reminded her that I paid for it with my own money and if she took it she would be stealing my property. As soon as I finished high school I put most of my stuff in storage moved out immediately and started living with girlfriends until I could get my own place. Both of my older brothers joined the military straight out of high school to get out of that house. All of our relationships greatly improved with our mom once we moved out
I am happy for you dude...Sometimes there should be limits in our relationdhips with others
Same man gotta leave for them to have a greater understanding and respect
This was extraordinary!👏👏👏
This is way better than the actual show
At FIU in Miami, they actually had a course for Watchmen. It was really cool seeing all these freshmen, young men and women, all walking through the halls with their required copy seeping through their notebooks😌
I thought I was going to hate this...that story was so heartwarming 😢
This was wholesome af..
This is awesome😭😂😂
I lost it at *whisper*"you're not ready for this"*whisper*
😂😂😂😂
So good
I know that the OG writer of watchmen has his issues with people who handles his masterpiece, but man... you were so respectful and awesome, you did such an amazing job.
I hope you know that.
You didn't overstep, you made it your own without straying from the source material.
You brought/connected a real life tragedy to this amazing comic and literally made people know about history.
Thank you!
That dad is a TRUE DEDICATED comic fan 🤩😎
This was magical, it just automatically made the show a thousand times better
This video is incredible!!!!!
Bruh this was wholesome asf for me🥺
I wanna cry
Cool! Love the nods to Watchmen art here and there, specially in the color, very true to Higgins work.
What a great presentation. My dad read comics as a kid but never really got heavily into them. I tried through school when the X-Men cartoon came out but there was too much history and mythology for me to really understand. Then Sonic the Hedgehog came out. It was a fun game and one day at the mall in a Walden Books there is "Sonic the Hedgehog #0" on the rack. I was amazed to see all these other characters and it was love. My dad bought the issue for me since I was short on cash at the time. I got a few snippets of the comic from others for the next two years and then the SatAM cartoon came out and to me it was like a love song from the universe. It was then that my folks were getting divorced and Sonic and his Freedom Fighters were the fantasy I escaped into. I started trying to collect the comics more regularly and I would find groups of four or five issues on a rack in a Target or something and get them all. It was somewhere just after the Endgame story I managed to start getting them consistently. After that I got every issue, super special, and spin-off.
Then the series was suddenly cancelled and it felt like bottom dropped out. This pillar of my life for well over a decade was suddenly and unceremoniously ended.
Wow. A dad positivity video.
That hits hard
This is amazing
That was a beautiful story.
I'm a second generation comic book collector (maybe 3rd if my grandfather was a fan in late 1930s/early 1940s) and this touched my heart.
Not what I was expecting nor looking for--was looking for HBO & Watchmen, yes--but this is GREAT!
Amazing! He is an awesome story teller and the animation made it fun to watch. 👍
What a master story teller
Yes, yes. Alan Moore is a genius master storyteller. Unfortunately USA/DC butchered all his works.
What Damon has done with Watchmen is nothing short of achievement. I have seen the series multiple times and have thoroughly enjoyed his take on the characters. This very video proves the fact that he has the grasp and hold on storytelling as he has been introduced to this world in such a small age. I wish he comes up with more comic stories, make more movies and series. Truly loved the video.
That was a beautiful passing the torch story. 🥰
This is spectacular
I wasn’t ready for this...
An incredible story. Id watch this as a movie or even a tv show. Make it happen!
This was great
It shows how much thought and heart goes into an HBO TV show 💗
I was so sad when it jumped ahead and the parents were divorced. The mom looked so happy when she said, “I found it!” And I was like, aww, she loves him so much. Then BAM, divorce. Classic parents move.
Incredible!
This is beauty
I love this!
