    Paul I miss spoke after replying to your Facebook questions. My unit is NOT that brand but looks exactly the same . Mine however installed directly over the old vents etc . Mine is a Android and my Bluetooth is kinda a issue . Sometimes to play my phone music , CZcams whatever , I have to press the BLUETOOTH button on the screen twice , first time says its playing but no audio , then I click the Home button and then Bluetooth AGAIN and it works . Just must be a software issue type thing

    Great video !
    I've also done the install using this video and a few others, a few lessons learned from me:
    0. Watch this video (and others) before doing anything; measure twice, cut once.
    1. Total complete process took me about 3 hours; this is including everything such as unboxing, running cables through dash, run microphone cable through to the mirror, etc.
    2. This video has no steering wheel controls, so that was going to be a bit of surprise; to my relief, with the Canbus box it just works
    3. I did not have the problem with the antenna sticking out; there was already a 90 degree angle plug supplied.
    4. Android Auto 'just works'
    5. Biggest challenge was actually getting the radio and the myriad of cables back in the hole and the radio far enough back; took me a few tries. I have considered cutting away the 15 cables or so that I would never ever need (e.g. subwoofer) but decided not to do this to avoid any side effects. Anyone know if you can do this safely?
    6. I did not disconnect the battery; did not need to imho
    7. One remaining issue is the flickering odometer; from what I can read on the internet, seems like this will not go away (minor nuisance)
    8. I've reinstalled the vents as per this video. Not sure how useful it is but I could so why not
    9. I've stuck the GPS antenna on the right side of this radio within the dash; works fine.
    10. I ordered the 4GB RAM / 64 GB storage with the 8 core processor; so not the top model but pretty close. Last thing you want is a laggy system, and when undertaking a project like this, you don't want to regret buying a too low-specced one.
    Good luck !

      I was tempted on my latest one to get rid of the superfluous cables but decided to just tape the, all together. Much easier to get them all in but it’s always a challenge.

    Good video - I installed this exact unit to my daughters Fiat 500 last Christmas. Things I found were;
    1) Make sure that the lower painted part of the dashboard is protected using a cloth or something - It's very easy to scratch that when you are pulling the unit in and out.
    2) Watch the edges of that cage - they are sharp. Make absolutely sure the wiring doesn't get trapped (or your fingers).
    3) The hands free microphone for the phone is plugged into a flying lead that is connected to the unit. Make sure this is fully home and if necessary, wrap with insulating tape to stop it coming apart. Mine did after installation, and I had to get it all out again to see why the phone audio wasn't working.
    4) I stuck the GPS antenna to the underside of the dash top, where it seems to work OK with the navigation system.
    My only criticisms are that there is no instructional manual that comes with the unit - you have to figure out how it works by trial and error. Also, after 12 months installed in the vehicle, the original light cream coloured plastic has now completely faded to light grey. Otherwise it works fine, and is a vast improvement over the original radio. Mine works with the steering controls, and tells you when either door is open - wrong way around though, as the firmware assumes left hand drive I guess!
    I didn't realise about the vents either - good spot - I will have a look at that. I just assumed (like everyone else) that the whole vent assembly has to be removed.

    • @Love500
      @Love500  Před 7 měsíci

      You’re right about those cages. Sherpa little buggers. I’ve also installed the gps on top of the stereo and works fine. It’s weird with that door open thing that it shows you the opposite door to is actually open.

      It depends on which one you have. The one with the little 500 logo is a hinge that allows you access to the main vent which will allow you to open and close the vents but none of them allow side to side or up and down adjustment. It’s just the trade off to get a modern stereo.

Also tried 3 other B&M modules from a 500 (2013, 2014) and diagnostic returns "not compatible". So, question is...If i fit an aftermarket stereo like the one above, Would i still need a functioning B&M module? Or would the canbus and stereo itsself prevent the flashing mileage? any idea?

    • @Love500
      @Love500  Před rokem +1

      Another module should work, you don’t need to match numbers so it’s strange you’re getting an error. An aftermarket stereo will still have flashing mileage until you do a proxy alignment. If you do a proxy alignment with the blue and me unplugged then it should stop flashing now. I don’t think it’ll flash again when you install an aftermarket one. If it does, then you just need to do it again.
