    I think Slim Jim Phantom is the Best at what he does. His name should include the word "Rockabilly" somewhere. His drumming, vocalizations, personna, stage presence, and more are all about Rockabilly. Brian is more than Lucky to have him, otherwise the band would just as well be "The Brian Setzer Band". I wish the camera lingered on Jim a bit more. I believe you can see the Honest Love of Rockabilly come through as he's doing his job. His Rockabilly Energy is Explosive, truly How-To-Do-It. When He talks at about 10:30, He says it all in just a few short sentences. When it comes to Rockabilly. He's a Natural. If I was to put together a Rockabilly Band I would use Him as a template for the drummer I was looking for. If I didn't find one, I'd drop the whole project.
    Hey Lee Rocker, I'm not blowing you off. I have similar to say about you but so many others have already and your current History, Resume, Bio, and Wiki don't exactly say it all but are close. You certainly are tThe Best of The Best! Wiki: " He's considered to be an influential upright bassist in Rock n' Roll."

    • @hirskdubbi
      @hirskdubbi Před 8 lety +2

      +ClassyOldMusic agree on alot except rockabilly wasnt as explosive and slim jim has a hard time keeping the same tempo.He speeds up his tempo within the same song. other than that,love the band.

    • @ClassyOldMusic
      @ClassyOldMusic Před 8 lety +2

      I don't know anything about tempo, and I'm not an audiophile, not even sure if that's the right word, but I believe you, you sound professional! Slim was probably stoned or had a few in him while playing... I think he's the one who did most of the screaming, Ha!
      They did a lot of touring, And a lot of international, all over the map/globe. I think it wore them out. They looked very tired/old in their interviews especially toward the end. Jeeze! I think Slim did most of the talking as well.
      I think they did a heroic job of bringing Rockabilly to the world, Many knew nothing about it. Now I think it was Finland where they got their first Gold Album/Record or something like that. The Asians are wacky about it! And of course in this country, LA, Los Vegas...
      Many didn't even know it existed... and then try get some to spell it, Ha!

      xmandlt - Yeah Runnin on empty, whoa that's like thrash metal isn't it. and all those 10 zillion songs he sings that sound like something lounge singer James Taylor would do, whoa lets rock man. Please spare me. The guy does lightweight fluff and the only reason he is in the RnR hall of fame over people like the Stray Cats or Stevie Ray Vaughn or Larry Williams is because he's a hardcore leftist. RnR hall of fame is just one more awards institution hijacked by the left which is why we got disco singers like Madonna and lightweight lounge acts inducted over people who actually play RnR

    • @xmandlt
      @xmandlt Před 10 lety +3

      whine whine whine. Rock and roll has many facets to it, and while I do agree people like madonna probably don't belong, Jackson Browne and James Taylor have both been respected by straight ahead rock and rollers through the years. Leave your political leanings out of it.

    There's something very strange about this band. If they existed in 1955, they would probably be known today as the greatest Rock and roll band that ever lived, but today, since they started in the 1980s, they come across as more of a strange copy band, something very inauthentic about them, as if they are cheating, you know what I mean? It's like playing Ramones type music 30 years after the Ramones disbanded, it's like wait a minute, is this a copy band or what? Why are they copying original acts?

      +Ka Boom Weird scenes inside your head.They are a Rockabilly Band.Rockabilly is a very minority area of music.I am 61 years old and have been listening to music since 1960.I have noticed that genres of music tend to repeat themselves.I was 1 year old in 1955 thus could not watch this type of band.And who could outside the USA ? So I watch Brian Setzer,Cousin Harley,Reverend Horton Heat,Darrell HIgham etc who are modern rockabilly bands playing live.Same with any other genre of music.And there is a demand for this genre of music.

      +Ka Boom This is very different from the music they had in 1955. It´s actually as close to punk as 50s rockabilly I would say. Allthough it´s rooted in 50s rockabilly it´s very far from the "original" rockabilly.

      +rockaround71 It can't be punk because I can't stand 99% of punk, and these guys are very good players. It's been said that the whole idea of punk is to be accessible to non-music majors. That idea I like a lot, but personally I don't care for punk. I can live without shooting myself if I have to be at a rockabilly show, tho...

      +Ka Boom clearly you live a very sheltered musical life and a sheletered life in general.I am old enough to know that fashion goes around in circles.

      Patrick Houlihan agree, but that's exactly what happens when you yank music out of schools...and friggin Auto-tune...the evil spawn of 80's tape-splicing, of which a few so - called legends used...:)
      You'd think he also would know the Ramones' purpose as punk band was to make music accessible to anyone, as all punk is. I can stand it about as much as rap, but there's always a band of great players who are an obvious exception: rap: Chicago's Liquid Soul is funk rap, but they have a phenomenal bass player, and up til recently, HAD an equally excellent drummer. I'll live with the rap because of the rhythm section and the genius of Mars Williams on horns. It isn't mysognystic (woman hating and violent), so...
      Punk, well, lemme think...I like the idea of overall accessibility, not having to study musuc for 25 years...Rage Against the Machine is one. "Darkness" is something. Also feature a GREAT rhythm section. They're not at all simplistic, tho.
