With such a provocative title, this film illustrates some of the perceived problems a supervisor might face working with women, but ultimately demonstrates where the real problem lies.

I applied to be a garbage truck driver. I am female, and this was unheard of in the 1970s. I was hired by the males, treated with respect, and told to show up the next morning to start my first day of work. The next morning, I was fired on the spot by a female manager in front of the male drivers. Her ugly comments included that no woman would want this job while insinuating that I must have promised "something" to the men to get hired. The males, to their credit, apologized profusely and looked embarrassed.
Another indoctrination video promoting so-called "womens lib" & portraying men as egotistical sexists. When this was all about cheaper labor & Corporate wealth!😂
That's wild story, and having worked with local council 'men' jobs, I easily emphasise with. But still, am curious what you're take away was from that whol3 ordeal..
My grandma used to say: "No house is big enough for two women." and this applies not just to houses. Many women will eventually start with the back-stabbing and drama; it's just how they're wired. My wife even admits to it. She's glad she works with almost all men. The other two women in her office have their little dramas, but since it's only 3 of them (and 10 men) they can work it out. Add a couple more women? That's a recipe for disaster.
You can to. Connect the "Y" axis to vertical coil on the yoke of a TV. Connect the "X" axis to the horizontal. Connect the "Z" to the grid of the picture tube. Then show the boss.
I am the only woman in an all male environment. I came from a job that was very, shall we say....diverse. I HATED that job. No work was ever done. Or it was done wrong. Or there were tons of water cooler moments, one day i got stuck at the register for hours, no relief, pages for help ignored, customers ignored. No bathroom break and i missed my lunch. I wanted to leave that day but not until I had another job lined up.... thankfull i did land this sweet sweet deal where I'm currently employed. The new boss showed up out of the blue, acted surprised to see me working at that dump. Told me to come see him if it didn't work out. So i did. One week from the day i got shit on i started the other job. Scared shitless (i have been abused and sexually harassed by men in the past. I was a afraid to be alone with anyone but the guy who hired me. I knew him well enough to know i was safe.) So here we are, four months later. And these guys are like family. We all talk, about anything. We tell jokes, share food. My God it's great. I want to stay in this job forever. Never ever want to work in another corporate hell hole again. Independent businesses alllllll the way. Now i dont know if its so cool because it's a small crew or because I'm the only female. I just dont want anything to change.
@@Hy-Brasilwhew, what a story, unfortunately, that part about the place you left sounds familiar to me. I'm glad you've found a job that's comfortable for you. It's also good to hear about decent men. I get sick of hearing only negative things. All the best to you.
They had that kind of relationship then--if the door is open, the knock had already happened. That's where the expression "open-door policy" came from.

Poor Brad! Having to spend his days as a manager doing stupid things like teaching his employees, planning work coverage during an employee's vacation and handling last-minute changes. You know, manager stuff.
"Why, when it was just MEN in the company, Brad was never troubled by these arrangements. In fact he enjoyed them. And back then, there was always someone working for him whom he Really enjoyed flirting with...!"
"The trouble with women". This video barely scratched the surface. This was 60 years ago. If these guys had a crystal ball & could see 2019, they both would have jumped out the window in terror.
Brad is correct in most of his issues with women. It’s 2020 and I no longer work in medical billing because it was a nightmare on multiple levels. This biggest issue I had were all the coworkers I had. The cat fighting was terrible. As a guy I was able to stay out of it to a certain point. The there were women who were divorced and old that wanted to blame me for all of their problems. The pay sucked too but I probably would’ve lasted longer if it wasn’t for women being 85% or more of the staff. I did stay in that field way to long which is my fault. I did switch to Analyst, business Analyst roles and making WAY more money. Almost double now!!! I am Happier now! less of one thing now and more of another. 🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂So, I do think that Brad was mostly correct.
@@johnreese7291 I worked in construction and commercial & industrial facilities maintenance. Worked with 95% men. Very few workplace issues over 30 years. As I got older and my body had many years of physical work out in the weather, climbing ladders and lugging around heavy tools & equipment, I took a job as a bank courier, then worked in the bank office. Me and the President were the only men. It was sickening and almost unbearable every day. Constant drama, bickering, shit talking by every female about every other female. And the majority of them spent 75% of their time on the internet instead of actual work. Easily, there were more than twice the number of women needed. If the boss simply monitored the computers search history, he could have swept most of them out the door. Then they would actually be so busy doing their jobs, they wouldn't have time to create all the drama. It was amazing to me how oblivious the management was to the massive obvious slacking going on right under their noses. After being used to actual hard work, the kind that was exhausting, but satisfying, It blew my mind how all of these women would constantly yak on & on about how hard their jobs were.
Wow guys.....just wow....most of my work history is a warehouse type setting and I'm a pretty chill ass person. I have more male friends than female...even so, I was fought over and the men I worked with and still work with are more petty than all the ladies I have ever worked side by side with 😂 I will say I can run run circles around the guys at my places of employment. Here's what I think, the men nowadays are becoming more feminine and act like they have more hormones than the average woman. Just look around, all the men are getting smaller and more busty than the average woman. Men are way more petty than women these days....get your testosterone back. It's unbecoming of you all. Call it out when you see a little bitch boy. It was fucking embarrassing to bring men to meet my dad and the hand shake they gave was like a gummy bear. I like my man to be a Man.
What was this movie actually trying to say? I'm really not sure. Are women terrible and the big boss is forcing them on the little boss. Or is the little boss a dick who needs to pull his head out of his ass?
You're comparing men in 1959 to men in 2023, after theyve been totally feminized ironically. So yes, men today do complain like women because they are not allowed to be men lol.

My wife is a 58 year old tech executive. In college in the 1980s she was always the only female in all her classes. Now we have two daughters who both have science degrees. If I showed this to my daughters they would find it hard to believe it wasn't recently made satire.
Ha! The United States has to be the most overtly sexist English speaking country in the world. Like all countries that push their dominant religion and commonly use religious language ("Amen"! "Thoughts and prayers"!), it's so incredibly socially conservative. You've never allowed a female to become president, have you, while so many dozens of countries have had female leaders for so long! Australian primary school (elementary school) girls in the early 60s were expected to go on to high school and then to enter university to study the sciences, medicine, law, economics or whatever they wanted for their future careers. I was one of them, from when I was only 11. The backward religious United States was so sexist it was still in the dark ages then and for decades further on. One American woman has told of how even as late as the early 90s her high school teachers discouraged the girls from thinking of further study. It would be a waste, since they'd only get married and have children... 😳 😂 🤣

@Coldern Ice What I really want to know is, what kind of business inspects bearings and inspects electrical parts with an oscilloscope? Do they manufacture bearings and install them into something that can be checked with an oscilloscope?
@Favel Konefka. Okay, but I can find no evidence that bearings were inspected in this way at that time. What an excellent boss, great work ethics. He listens to brads complaints but also defends the women’s right to work. Don’t judge a person by what’s between their legs; judge em by how much cash they bring in to the business.
How did the boss listen to Brad's complains? They all pretty much flew over his head. Particularly the no-show girl Brad spend time teaching the previous day is a serious problem for a company. It's safe to asume it wasn't the first time that happened, because in that case it wouldn't be that much of a deal. Behaviour like that can deplete or straight out endanger productivity. And the table change complaint holds true to this day, lol.
It's depends what kind of work they are doing like if its something a 14 yr old boy can do then they will go fast! I've seen them but if it includes "lifting or moving" they take their miserable time
Wait until the sequel, where Brad starts to soften up, only to find out his boss, Walt, was a woman this entire time. Walt (rips mansuit off): "EEeexcellent! Things are going exactly as we women have planned them to...!!!"

How? It's too real. I know an all woman run and employed company that fell apart for every reason in the video. Absences, resisting change like a Karen, sudden quitting, and women not knowing what they're doing despite resumes saying otherwise. He clearly didn't have a problem in the beginning, but most women doing what he's complaining about made him lose hope. Because... most women do that. It's the rule, there's some exceptions, but it's definitely a majority.
There was a 5 year stretch when my wife stayed home. Kids were still in elementary school. It was GLORIOUS! House was managed well with her having very little stress. She was happy. I was happy. Life was good.
@@rjstewart - Your lives were good; fine. Not everybody is you; not everybody is your wife. Everyone should have choices. Not everybody can make it financially on one income. Evidently, you could make enough to not have financial issues. Many couples divorce or financial issues.

Meanwhile Myrtle's are now Karen's, absentees are still mostly women, none of them come with the knowledge of what they're supposed to do, or they take too long to learn it, and mostly women are the ones that don't put in proper two week notices by today's standards. I mean... there was an all woman company made today and it didn't even last five years, mostly because of the problems in this video. Except for competition over any male guests. And I'm not a misogynist, I'm a woman that just sees the statistics.
@@antithoughtpolice7497 Plenty of women are misogynists, so if you really are one, that proves nothing. What statistics? There are no statistics showing that "women take too long to learn". Plenty of companies go under---they must have been tiny, too, to be manage to be all women without some sort of illegal discrimination against men. The problem this video was made to point out is misogyny. Astounding that some people in the 50s were less sexist than many people today.
There's just something funny as hell about the trouble both men and women have with one another. When I was a little kid, my grandfather gave me this rainbow-colored booklet entitled 'What Men know about Women". I was actually anxious to read it. I took it to my room and opened it up; I thumbed through all the pages - every single page was completely blank. At first I thought there was some mistake, or it was another of my grandfather's jokes. Then it struck me. To this day, a million years later, the same book doesn't have a damn thing written in it. Live with it you guys. Besides, you're not supposed understand them anyway.

As much as I adore old vintage things, It’s a shame how many people seem to have unrealistic ideas about women in these comments. Not all of us are like that, and I have a feeling that a lot of you take an example of certain women who are stereotypically...well just downright irritable etc and claim that all or most women are like that.
Of course the trouble Brad had in the workplace wasn't due to the women but of his own making. He spent so much time bitching about the women employees that he wasn't getting his own work done.
‘Anything untoward and there’s a big production about it’ *proceeds to have a full blown meltdown after hearing information about employee getting married he’d heard 6 months ago*
Actually, this film was quite ahead of its time. Some companies still didn’t want to hire women except for waitressing or typing. And more single mothers were coming on the scene because divorce became more prevalent. (Which is another whole story). Companies found that single mothers made good employees because they had to be responsible for the children. My mom was a single mother in the 50s-60s. Having said all that, I think kids need a mom at home, at least some of the time. But I digress.
Your second sentence is complete nonsense and a lie. Move on from the 50's and check out high-paying exclusive jobs like lawyers, psychiatrists (and other specialized doctors), and nowadays even high-paying IT and engineering jobs. The only reason fields like engineering aren't 50:50 nowadays is because most women simply don't care about that kind of stuff and realize themselves in fields like medicine (where they are dominaning almost completely). The reasons why have been researched thoroughly already. Unless you're talking about countries like India or Saudi Arabia, of course, where women in the workforce are still often seen as a problem.
There’s a reason that the huge rise in single motherhood, suicide, lower GDP, etc coincided with women joining the workplace and socialist policies. The 50s were right, later gen’s wrong
@@anacorreia8058 I agree. Men and women in the work force isn't a zero sum game. Women might believe themselves more happy now than before, but men are committing suicide at a higher rate than ever. Perhaps when women say they are happier outside the home away from their kids they're just wrong about their feelings? (For example, the meme of the 30 something wine aunt who drinks 6 days a week and has too many cats)

Vincent Smith how about I correct you both: 1. The ‘gender pay gap’ is a bad use of statistics. 2. The reason men die on the job a lot more than women is because they take on more dangerous jobs. There aren’t a lot of women working oil rigs or in construction
dylan alvarez There are women who take on dangerous jobs. Female police officers for example. It’s rather uncommon, of course, but men and women simply make different choices on average
3:25... I've worked in that kind of situation. When I worked at a call centre we moved desks every day, it was awful, and unhygienic sharing headsets and stuff.

The actual content of this commercial is great. The boss listens to Brad, and acceots that his points MAY have some validity, but still uses facts and logic to make his point clear that Brad needs to be better.
His concerns are valid though. Abscentism, leaving the job and decreased productivity the moment they get pregnant are real issues. That is why many companies use temporary contracts and that is why there is a pay gap.

True though. All I see (read) are dudes (assuming by the usernames) who are like, "ha, ha, that's right! Women DO suck!" and then ridicule how women are terrible, and that people nowadays would get upset because this Brad wants to fire a woman for the stated reason that she is a woman. Like that's not blatantly sexist
"Well she's a women isn't she" I've seen this line in a video essay about how there was a prejudice against woman in the past. Now I'm aware of the issues women in the past but I feel like using this clip undermines the full videos value. What we are seeing in Brad is not a man who is undermining or ignoring woman. He's a man who is having a hard time to get along with his employees and also doing his best to help them.
Not quite sure what I was supposed to be learning here. The whole vibe I got from this video was "women are stupid and annoying, but deal with them anyway because it's what you've got" Like wtf 50's 😂
McGraw-Hill made this film? 😂🤣 I worked for that company back in the 90s, and they should have show this film to every male manager I ever encountered.
Brad: "You remember that new bearings inspector you hired last month?" Personnel manager: "Yes, what about her?" Brad: "She's come in late almost every morning. She's been poking her nose in everyone else's business, and spreading a rumor around that I'm having an affair with Myrtle Malloy . Yesterday, when she came back from a 2 hour lunch, her breath reeked of alcohol. And on top of everything else I've found her inspections to be riddled with mistakes. I want her fired!" Personnel manager: Now hold on a minute, Brad. Maybe the real problem here is YOU."
What? Putting products on the market that have actually been inspected? Was there ever a time when that really happened? I guess instead of hiring women they just eliminated them altogether to make more profit. The customer now is the quality control department for companies.
@@shanksworthy Why, that's awfully nice of you to say so. Part 3 is where Brad goes off his nut because he just can't handle all the dames at work anymore. It's a sad story, boy!
If it was an all man team having an absence problem, quitting with no notice problem, training on the job problem, and resistance to change problem, he would still complain. Issue is: women are generally doing it in job, and getting away with it. Absentees still keep their job, the ones getting trained are getting paid for no real work, and women keep quitting with no proper notice... and still do today. Need proof?
You're right. An effective supervisor would visor the girl that didn't show up and probably talk to the managee about productivity problems with only one sex he is in charge of. If he is efficiently supervising the men and only the women cause problems, how is it his fault? He was unfair about his assumption of the new bearing inspector, though.

What I think is strange about the fifties is that they seemed to forget that women had done all jobs just as well as men in WW2. From building planes to being lumberjills, women had done it all, and done it well. Yet there was thus retreat into misogyny. Odd.

@@JehanineMelmoth and you didn't do any of those jobs, you're probably barely 30 years old. Also those women loved their husbands dearly. If they were like you they'd probably refuse to work.
They weren’t necessarily forced. It’s just that once men were back from the war the more traditional roles were reestablished, mostly, because most liked these traditional roles more (note I said most, but it’s psychologically true even today that both genders prefer or tend to prefer their traditional roles, which makes sense form a evolutionary psychology perspective). It was actually the case that women were forced into more dangerous mens work because the industry lacked labour. Many women didn’t want that mostly because of the extreme dangers that came with these jobs. It is not like women necessarily wanted to do these jobs when men were at war
Let's put this in perspective. Brad's reaction to the new hire is incorrect, but, given that the Resource Manager has provided two unqualified persons and has found himself down a person and struggling to bring one up to speed, and one to "get with the program", you might expect a little frustration on the part of Brad. The real problem is all on Brad, but with the total disconnect between Brad and the Resources Manager who clearly doesn't care as long as Brad's department's profits and production are up. I imagine that Brad either left for another company, became an entrepreneur with a B+B in Vermont or was fired, and never found work again... Things never change.

‘Anything untoward and there’s a big production about it’
*proceeds to have a full blown meltdown after hearing information about employee getting married he’d heard 6 months ago*
Majority of degenerates in society come from single mother households.
If she doesn't get what SHE wants the world will burn with her in it.
Its never her problem. That is why she is a victim..because she never takes responsibility willingly without ulterior motives.
She doesn't know honor or respect, just her desires.

Brad is more worried about job output that trying to sleep with these chics? Something is not right here.
Brad is a Gaylord 😂
Mark Levers amen 🙏
Bless you my friend! I'm glad there are still ppl like us out there! Lol, so damn great
He looks like he's been married for 20+years the last thing he wants to deal with is another nagging woman who wants more money and attention!
@J. Carson there really not my remember Ashley Madison website for cheating names being brought out lol
As i sit here on my 17 hour shift I continue to wish somebody would build a time machine so i can go home.
The actual content of this commercial is great. The boss listens to Brad, and acceots that his points MAY have some validity, but still uses facts and logic to make his point clear that Brad needs to be better.
I can't believe this video is only 6 minutes long, it should have been a TV series at the least 😂
How's that working out for you in 2019?
Brad quit 2 weeks later and Myrtle Malloy wound up marrying one of the new girl hires and they are both retired and living in San Francisco.
His concerns are valid though. Abscentism, leaving the job and decreased productivity the moment they get pregnant are real issues. That is why many companies use temporary contracts and that is why there is a pay gap.

Brad was right, and nobody listened
???
That one chick reminded me of Mrs. Wiggins on the Carol Burnett show.
Having her use the intercom! 😂😂😂😂😂
what would you call that intro music? The genre or style ?
Post WW2 and Korean war labor shortage. Don't forget the millions deployed defending West Berlin and the DMZ's on 38th and 18th parallels not to mention Japan bases.
Dont read the comments. You saw the title, you know exactly what you'll read so why bother?
True though. All I see (read) are dudes (assuming by the usernames) who are like, "ha, ha, that's right! Women DO suck!" and then ridicule how women are terrible, and that people nowadays would get upset because this Brad wants to fire a woman for the stated reason that she is a woman. Like that's not blatantly sexist
For fun.
Why can’t they just do what they’re told to do without question?
@@BigReptileCrew Ironically, I am actively in the kitchen while writing this
People are missing the point of the video though. It's pointing out sexism and yet people are using it to fuel their sexism.
And after all that trouble, Brad has to go home to his wife that never does anything right.
It's his eyebrow acting that gets me
That oscilloscope operator is my mother (not literally, but she's been dubbed The Technology Queen for good reason).
I think it is obvious - his problem is problematic women...
"Well she's a women isn't she"
I've seen this line in a video essay about how there was a prejudice against woman in the past.
Now I'm aware of the issues women in the past but I feel like using this clip undermines the full videos value.
What we are seeing in Brad is not a man who is undermining or ignoring woman.
He's a man who is having a hard time to get along with his employees and also doing his best to help them.
Really makes you reconsider things, doesn’t it
No...Brad IS undermining women
@@wyleecoyotee4252 how? Explain please
Perhaps the women don’t want to be in his department either.
I absolutely know that actor playing Brad from somewhere but can’t place him. His voice is unmistakable. Who is that?
xv xv Thank you very much. I’m still puzzled though, because I haven’t seen either of those and his IMDb page lists nothing else. How odd!
@@GrantTarredus They cancelled him!
Not quite sure what I was supposed to be learning here. The whole vibe I got from this video was "women are stupid and annoying, but deal with them anyway because it's what you've got" Like wtf 50's 😂
Pure propaganda from the 50's that has lead the world to many of its problems now
Murdle Malloy 🤣 gets me every time
I feel like a lot of people missed the point of the video and haven't read the description
I haven't even watched it or read the description I'm in the comments having a good laugh
I don’t know what Brad’s trouble is! Why didn’t the film tell me?
Myrtle is a millennial.
so in other words, a time traveler.
McGraw-Hill made this film? 😂🤣 I worked for that company back in the 90s, and they should have show this film to every male manager I ever encountered.
Myrtle was totally Mike Teavee's mom in Willy Wonka 03:17
I was gonna leave the same comment but I wanted to scroll thru and see if anyone else picked it up. Good eye spy!!!🌸😂
I think his problem is he’s not getting any at home either… LOL

Trader Dan he seems like it
U r right lmao
Brad: "You remember that new bearings inspector you hired last month?"
Personnel manager: "Yes, what about her?"
Brad: "She's come in late almost every morning.
I want her fired!"
Personnel manager: Now hold on a minute, Brad. Maybe the real problem here is YOU."
What? Putting products on the market that have actually been inspected? Was there ever a time when that really happened? I guess instead of hiring women they just eliminated them altogether to make more profit. The customer now is the quality control department for companies.
Personell Manager:
...after all YOU are the one boppin' her in the store room at break time.
ROTFL - best comments ever. I love how you remained faithful to the 1950’s parlance. In my mind, this is officially Part 2.
@@shanksworthy Why, that's awfully nice of you to say so. Part 3 is where Brad goes off his nut because he just can't handle all the dames at work anymore. It's a sad story, boy!
Les B That HR guy is all about her. He’s going to make her Head ball bearings inspector no doubt.
I’m just sad there aren’t any “Myrtles” anymore.
Brad’s undies are in a bunch?
If it was an all man team having an absence problem, quitting with no notice problem, training on the job problem, and resistance to change problem, he would still complain.
Issue is: women are generally doing it in job, and getting away with it. Absentees still keep their job, the ones getting trained are getting paid for no real work, and women keep quitting with no proper notice... and still do today. Need proof?
Brad's trouble is that he is placing the blame on others when he is an ineffective supervisor.
Brad is existence challenged
You're right. An effective supervisor would visor the girl that didn't show up and probably talk to the managee about productivity problems with only one sex he is in charge of. If he is efficiently supervising the men and only the women cause problems, how is it his fault? He was unfair about his assumption of the new bearing inspector, though.
If by "ineffective supervisor" you mean "he's dealing realistically with incompetent women who don't belong in the workplace", yeah.
Lol. The Video literally showed him explainging something to the woman, then she does it wrong, then he explained again and was said just try as best as you can. How are you blaming him for being an ineffectivr Supervisor? It literally showed him doing his job
Well I wonder if MST3K ever got their mitts on this one.
The boss looks like Vincent Price stunt double.
Rifftrax sure did.
i liked this for the title alone...
Looks like Larry from Bewitched. After working personnel here, he became one of the big wigs at the advertising company that Darin worked at. :-)

It very much is, even in modern countries. It's sad tbh
Yes it is but against man

Well, apart from the fact that he didn't actually cause any trouble.
Wait till they find out she's a navigation specialist. For safe travel you have to make sure that whenever you "get your bearings", your work is inspected for accuracy.
Love the cigarette vending machine right in the office! Miss those days.
They were everywhere
What I think is strange about the fifties is that they seemed to forget that women had done all jobs just as well as men in WW2. From building planes to being lumberjills, women had done it all, and done it well. Yet there was thus retreat into misogyny. Odd.
@@bradleyweiss1089 Women were pressured to leave those jobs after the war, for the demobbed men to take them up again. Women are still pressured to take certain jobs and not others, of course. Congratulations on knowing that the war is over. You missed the point of my post, however. Women did do all those jobs - and some died, as they were not 'kept out of harm's way' . (How?!)(bless!)
@@JehanineMelmoth and you didn't do any of those jobs, you're probably barely 30 years old. Also those women loved their husbands dearly. If they were like you they'd probably refuse to work.
@@Soundeagle3456 I’m in my fifties and my mother and aunt talked a lot about their time making aeroplane parts.
@@musiccer7446 oh dearie me, where to begin… no, I just don’t have the time.
@Coldern Ice Oh, is that where he ended up. I guess he could put his years of experience with the oscilloscope to good use then!
Or started the very first vlog down by the river in a van.
So what was Brads trouble? I want to know! So i can apply it at my work!
Thank you!
