Bob Hope
Bob Hope rose to the top of every medium he touched: headliner in Vaudeville, Broadway star, radio icon, movie idol and superstar on television. His persona reached audiences of every age in every decade of the 20 th century.
A popular star in Vaudeville, it was Broadway’s “Roberta” where Bob eventually caught the eyes of critics. In 1938, NBC signed him for a radio show that became a fixture in American homes. It wasn’t long before Paramount called on Bob. He went on to make 50+ feature films, including the hugely popular “Road Pictures” with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. In 1950, his TV career officially launched with “Star Spangled Revue.”
An accomplished man, Bob’s greatest legacy was his commitment to American service personnel. For nearly six decades, at war or at peace, “G.I. Bob” crossed the globe with 57 USO tours for troops in WW II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Persian Gulf War. In the history of show business, no one traveled so far, so often, to entertain so many.

I mean, I thought Game of Thrones was bad, but that's really just small time. (And yet somehow, no one managed to kill Jar-Jar.)

Olivia was the absolute classiest! I can't imagine her ever being rude or obnoxious. So missed. Always great to watch or listen to.
My friend was on a TV special with her,ABBA and Andy Gibb that was taped on May 5th 1978 when he was 11 years old and a part of an acting troupe for kids.He walked up to her between takes and tried to introduce himself...she just stared at him,ignored him and walked away.Heard also she did drugs occasionally so maybe she was high? She had a lot of street cred in Hollywood and the media protected her from any bad press

@@Ometecuhtli That too! Especially coming from Mark here, the one who decades later would deliver the bad news before The Last Jedi was released. I've never seen anyone campaign like that to tank a movie they were envolved in. But we know why he did that.
When Hollywood was Great, All the Wonderful Talent of those times; at least we can hold their memories on film (ok a computer chip) and in our hearts.

They were lucky to act in a comedy skit with such an extraordinary Woman such as Olivia Newton- John.
I like when they try not to laugh. Those were the days when comedy was really funny.

This is so much better than most of "modern" Star Wars...
this would have been one skit in a Bob Hope TV Special. Maybe more of Olivia, Perry Como, and Mark Hamill, but I doubt anything else star Wars related. I don't remember seeing this. I would have been probably 11 (if aired in 1978) and was/am an Olivia junkie. I can't believe I never saw this.
Of course there's no more; it's a frigging comedy skit. And it isn't "Star Wars" at all; it's "Scar Wars."
If not the GOAT, Bob Hope was one the goats of comedy.

This is great so much pure fun,Olivia is so fine and gorgeous although the princess outfit is not worn as Leia had worn it but that would have been a definate plus.The improvisations of Bob hope made everyone not be able to keep a straight face,how have i not seen this over the years ?!

Olivia was always a feast for the ears AND eyes. And because she'd had MANY years of experience as an actress, she was quite good, and had GREAT comic timing - as can be seen here.
She was an absolute treasure, and she is missed.

The Muppet episode featuring Star Wars characters was more my scene but this provoked the odd smirk.
I saw this when it first aired in 1977! The " Looking for Mr. Goodbar" reference always gets me because when I first saw Star Wars, the other movie that was playing at the theater was "Mr. Goodbar!" Never saw that one until the mid-90s!
That joke is extremely dark and mature, if you know the movie.
as a 70's child GASP a star wars holiday special which makes MORE sense then the "REAL" ONE :D and WHAT makes that special worse is EVEN the pop up books for the "star wars holiday special were better then the true special.
This isn't a SW holiday special, and the real one's bad rep is undeserved.

I've always liked Bob Hope & am a Star Wars fan........but this is painful to watch all these decades later. At that time (pre-1980) it was still a 'mysterious movie-story' so alot of media people spoofed it. The one I remember most was Donny & Marie's version.

It seemed like in the 70’s the “big thing” that celebs always tried to do was sexual innuendos. They thought they were so clever and couldn’t keep from laughing. Saw it all the time on talk shows too.
