Manicaland primed for horticulture boon

GOVERNMENT is implementing various programmes to revitalise horticulture production in Manicaland so that the sub-sector can effectively contribute to the US$1 billion horticulture industry by 2030 from the current US$120 million.
Horticulture is the fifth-largest agricultural export earner, contributing 6,8 percent to the agricultural Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and various initiatives are being implemented to address challenges and regenerate the sub-sector.
Manicaland is the hub of horticulture production due to its diverse agro-ecological regions and natural endowments that favour the production of macadamia, tea, coffee, bananas, avocados, vegetables and flowers for export
