At this point Jason is as much of a filmmaker, as photographer. Those videos are absolutely top notch lately!
Not to mention, comedian.
Hey Grainydays i just wanted to say thank you for inspiring me to start film photography and abandon my sony a6300 i should be hetting my first two rolls back from the darkroom and they said its unscannable which probably means they're amazing shots! ❤️❤️❤️
get an enlarger, it will be worth it. soul of photography lives in the darkroom 🙏
Keep going, Anthony. The Darkroom doesn't know what they missed.
@@danienelphoto thank you! I'm going to see if KEH can warranty my camera I think it's probably light leaks
Anthony the problem is you didn't shoot portra 400, I can send a box over to you but it is getting pretty pricey lately, tell ya what I'll cut you a deal (I'm taking a loss here) but I'll trade it for your Sony!
please don’t spend money on portra 400 it’s not worth it I swear
OIOI! Outlet Ryan Gosling back at it!
After watching this video. I'm now less mildy depressed. Good work
this video saved me from a complete and utter mental breakdown after my crush told me she had a boyfriend
Maybe this video can help me do some film developing this weekend
I’M NOT CRYING YOU’RE CRYING
Me: How big a lens do you need?
Jason: yes
Its funny seeing Jason use a telephoto lens. I figured he would have use a 35 and caught the eclipse behind a rotting house :)
shrugging at seeing one of your own pictures framed in the wild is a level of success that i strive for
Now instead of waiting for the accompanying Caleb video, I gotta wait for the accompanying David video on The Studio channel 😂
Jason: I got the eclipse on film
Caleb: I got the eclipse on Super 8!
We talk alot about your work on camera but you're a great sound designer too! Makes the video experience even better. Love ur work man
Love the background ticking you added. Great choice
I really like the opening lobby pictures. The somewhat blown highlights lend themselves well to the overall decor and add that sort of dreamy feel to a very retro yet modern location
I am comment 25!!!!!!!!! I have arrived. Thank you, Universe. I am validated. 45 years of life, and I have made it. ... and yes... you definitely are a 50mm guy. Thank you for this. I'm 1% into editing 600 packshots I took's deep-etching and editing and this content is what I need to to live vicariously through other photographer's lives. Love and respect from Cape Town, South Africa. PS - Cape Town is a photo excursion that'll blow the roof of anything you've ever done. Just saying. And we have some serious craft whisky over in South Africa. So again... just saying. ... and amazing food and wine and gin and scenery like you've never seen... again, just saying.
I really enjoyed this video from beginning to end. Consider this your Emmy episode.
Another awesome one Jason. The combo of Nikon film camera, 300mm lens and 2x teleconverter pointed at the sky took me back 20 years ago, sitting in the freezing cold trying to capture a lunar eclipse in my front yard with an FM and ancient Nikkor-H 300/4.5 my pop gave me. From memory, your pics were much better. Kudos.
Gave my finger pads a friction burn clicking on this at light speed (I’m justifying my F2 purchase)
So meee... I literally bought one today hahah
Justify ? Needs no justification, it's the best camera I own !
@@yeeyee5054 it’s my favorite of my cameras too, it’s just a silly joke 😂
In the for what it's worth dept., (not much), The scene where you photographed a dead tree in the flat countryside you said to the effect that this is what the whole State of Ohio looks Like. Actually there are five distinct regions in the state. The Great Lakes Plains, the Till Plains, The Appalachian Plateau, The Bluegrass Region and the Lake Erie Shoreline. Your tree shot probably was taken in the till region named because it's used tp cutivate crops. Ohio, in my opinion has a subtle beauty. The grandeur of the Rockies is several hundreds of miles to the west. Your glib comments alone make your channel worth viewing. I'm at least old enough to be your great grandfather. your meanderings with your friends takes me back to my twenties when we did similar things. Keep your videos coming.
24:59 the colours and shapes here are gorgeous!
Seeing videos like this is what makes me proud and happy about being a photographer, such amazing vibes and great overall community all around us
I am very fond of the woods around Falling water and the surrounding area. Those are my stomping grounds. I do a lot of hiking/camping/fishing in that area. I wasn't expecting to see western PA in a grainydays video.
My girlfriend has that same exact cow sweater... But you rock it
As someone who was also taking an eclipse trip at the same time this was being shot, this felt like it somehow encapsulated a lot of the same emotions and stages I went through during my trip. Excellent film, man.
Super surreal seeing Lorain, Cascade Park, and my college town in a grainydays video! Loved seeing your take on each of them!
Have to say this channel is one of my favorites. The humor, the vlog style, the photos. 👊
Your totality shot is truly massive. Dune feelings achieved.
I really enjoyed the watch ticking sound while everyone rushed to get the eclipse photo. Really set the suspense, great video!
50mm was my first focal length on film and it's still the one I default to when just walking around. I think what draws me to it is that it doesn't distort anything. 35 is similar but 50 provides that extra bit of separation that helps things pop in my opinion
Truth.
Started with a 35-80mm lens on a 1.6x crop body so you could say 58mm was the best i could get, now i use 50 1.8 and 35 1.8 the most. Or 85mm the goat
When using a solar filter, always place it as close to your front glass element. That's why you got those "globular" flares.
Cool vid! Eclipse was sure amazing!
Have watched a bunch of eclipse videos, this is the best by far. Your journey to the heartland which ended about two hours south of where i spent most of my life gave me a good dose of nostalgia. It is a thought provoking video that says get out there and shoot. Your keepers both going and coming need to be printed.
Great trip. Many keepers and lots of fun…
Holy cow! That eclipse shot! Love the colors!
I’ve been looking forward to you dropping the eclipse trip. I traveled with my sons to view the eclipse with my family and got some amazing pictures. But like you said, the trip was the best part. Thanks for sharing.
This video is so good! The story, scenes, editing, all of it. Great work!
Loved this so much, Jason. Bravo.
Power over photography is power over all
25 years being a pro.....and NOW somebody tells me. Watch out, bitches, life is about to change.
Always good to see some Bowling Green love.
Yaaay Baxter's daddy uploaded a new video
Too funny. I love the camaraderie. Being around like-minded creatives is a lot of fun. There are some really great images. Thank you for sharing the adventure!
Thanks for sharing amazing stories and photos ❤
The second photo of the lighthouse is really good. I think the black and white works great. Makes it timeless.
I've been waiting for this video! Very enjoyable, thanks!!
The eclipse photos are great, but like you said, everyone has an eclipse photo. I appreciate seeing what led you to that moment. That’s what makes this stand out! Great video
This one was unusually melancholic. This or it's my cold getting to me
What a beautiful video, well done!
this might be my new favourite video of yours, great job man
Same
THAT JUMPER!!! ❤
Great video as usual, the effort behind this channel is insane. Best channel on CZcams easily
I've only ever experienced a total eclipse of the heart.
your commentry always makes your videos classic 🤣❤
The ticking noise during the eclipse was a nice touch it took me a moment to notice it but it really adds to the feel of the "scene" it's obvious your background is in big budget films in things like this even if your specialty isn't audio design
So sick!!
love the mini DVD footage
The portrait of your friends at 33:52 is beautiful. One of your best videos this mate.
You know it's a good day if jason uploads
Loved this video and loved your pics. Given me some inspiration as I'm recovering from open heart surgery.
Immaculate vibes.
came for the fed up vibes, did not leave disappointed
One of your best vids 👏
My day is saved🫶🏽
Having some troubles with my girlfriend right now, kinda feeling sad and empty but now by seeing a new video,i got a lil smile on my face
Thank you🙏🏼
Things will pick up mate they always do I’m knocking on now split at Christmas feeling a bit lost still and watching too much content on the state of the world so sitting down to watch this video and other like it for inspiration is awesome therapy. Stay positive mate shit gets better.
Hell yeah, K&M. The GOAT for film on a Saturday.
Great video!
So I watched Pete's video today and here I am. Popping my cherry by watching this, my first video of yours. I will circle back later...
24:08 i love the montage. very wes anderson :D
i rly liked those airport shots!
Thanks so much. I totally enjoyed this from every point of view. Especially feeling some kind of "sharing" for want of a better word. Re the 50mm... I have been shooting a lot on a Nikon FM2n recently with a 50mm, but I splashed out and bought the Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f1.4 ... what an incredible combination. Like you I am suprised with the results I am getting in situations that I never thought the focal length was the wisest choice for.
Wonderful video!
I think the slide shots in TWA on 50 mm were some of your best work. The colors look amazing as well, typical of slide film. I wish Fujifilm stopped discontinuing their color negative film so that we would have options that didn't look brown or gray like Kodak or other options.
I live near Falling Water and have taken pictures there many times. Really fun to see your perspective on it.
The niftiest of fifties! My personal favorite lens because of the depth of field you can get at 1.2
that teleconverter on the 300mm is insane, absolute respect jason
babe wake up, a new grainy day video dropped
definitely a portfolio video
Wonderous, thank you.
loved his license plate -- 65x24. :)
Wish I knew you were coming to Cleveland - you were close to my hometown! The mile long pier in Lorain where you shot the lighthouse is one of my favorite muses to capture when I need a break!
Thanks!
No thank you
Should have gone to northern Vermont!!! I got a beautiful sunny day, clear skies, and full totality for 3m15s from the comfort of my back yard.
At last 50mm! You´re a photographer now;-)
50mm is the best everyday.
I like 50mm.... but in time, you'lll realise 35mm is where it's at.
@@danienelphoto Nah... 35mm is boring. It lacks presence. It's "what is saw" more than "what I want you to see". It's... Lazy.
@@danienelphoto 35mm is just a teenage phase tbh. You'll grow out of it with time.
Love the Nikon F series 🥲. You pulled out some beautiful shots man!
Very interesting experience and great photographic opportunity. I feel like there is some lost potential going for pictures of the sun itself when the light was so unique and everybody was taking the same picture. I would love to see some pictures of other subjects.
Was at Fallingwater for a partial solar eclipse years ago - this brought back a lot of memories. Nice vid and cool shots ✌
I ended up in Lima, Ohio, and it worked out great. Amazing to experience totality.
I've had one of those Nikkor 50mm f1.2 for over a decade now. One of the champion lenses for sure.
Naturally you got some great photographs, and you do a great job with the video. But damn, the comentary is spectacular! Too many great quotes to list, River Toilet, He was Shooting Digital - So Who Gives A F***. But enyone who has done a road trip knows only too well - "Gas Station Toilet Paper"! I almost spit my coffee out! Love it!
It's unbelievably surreal to watch this video and see a place i lived and shot for years.
8:34 Apparently I live in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania...😂 That turnpike exit is 15 mins from my place. Love your videos btw! 👊🏼
I live close to Bowling Green and had no idea there was a store there that sold and developed film….what a strange way to find this out😅 I’ll be checking that out soon! Love the video.
If you are not happy with your slides, it may be that you are not protecting your lights. When you use Negative film, you have much bigger range and look out for the shadows. When you shoot slides you look out for the lights an let the the shadows fall to black. A spotmeter is very recomended if you shoot slides. But all this aside your pictures are nice!!!
River toilets were all the rage back then 😂
hey, Jason, I rly loved this video, ill star university next year, after feeling like ive thrown away two years of my life, im only 19 and since last year photography has been everything to me, ill study photography, which I love and im stoked about it. But ive had the same type of thoughts over and over: "are my photos good enough? is everybody just lying to me and saying they're good when they're not" and so on. Im pretty lost and although id love to be able to live by my photos and make a living there's always those thoughts on the back of my mind. Anyways, loved the video, I really liked to see how others photographers that share the same passion are able to help and inspire each other, I hope I meet people like that at university. thanks
50mm suits you for sure, its my fav as well
Great trip and video, Jason. Screen time rankings Nikon F2, Jason, Birgitte, David, Everything else in that order. I would have flipped you and Birgitte, but your Number One is solid. This totally captures the essence of a photo road trip with friends, and your portfolio and keeper rates are strong. I saw totality when I was a young kid, but only got to 96% here in New Hampshire. Wish I'd made the two-hour drive west to totality but the weather was sketchy and the two-lane roads to get there looked like LA at rush hour. I'm glad I got to experience it vicariously through this video. Andy
You hipsters are such a crack up with your Teslas and film cameras 😆
The U.S countryside is so pretty!
I thought my 50mm lens was not doing its job but seeing you take picture with your f2 makes me feel a little bit better about my camera (which is an f2 as well)
Awesome Jason!! Thank you for posting. Great production. I will confess that when Trev showed up, you being in Ohio, I. thought it was a Matt Day sighting.
I liked so much your video, tks for share it ✌🏻
It looked so good in widescreen
Thank you for going to Ohio. Ohio appreciates it.
50mm is awesome for portraits whether formal, environmental, or candid, fifty just looks right to me.
