Deja vu? I may have lost my mind, I know… but hear me out. This is my new 2023 Ford F150 Raptor in Avalanche Grey! I just traded my 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison for this Raptor. I only logged 600 miles on my ZR2. Loved the diesel, really liked the interior and appreciated the steel AEV bumpers. BUT I did not love the not-so-promising resale value of the ZR2. Chevy dealers discounted the crud out of those ZR2s… I’m talking 10-12K below MSRP. Which is all fun when buying but because they do that, the 2nd and 3rd order effects aren’t conducive for good residual value. Trade In numbers are never good on GM products. I was able to get $3500 more than I paid for it a few weeks ago and got $5300 off MSRP on this Avalanche Grey Raptor. The Raptor is known to have a solid resale value. It’s not uncommon for a 2-3 year old used one with 30-40K miles to go for $3-7K less than its original MSRP. That’s it!
So since Mrs. Untamed wasn’t happy about this quick purchase (quick for me even)… I need to keep ahold of this truck for a while longer. Longer than normal anyway. So 6 weeks?? 😬 😂
Let me know your thoughts. Am I crazy to have traded my brand new Chevy ZR2 for this Ford F150 Raptor? Would you have done it too with these numbers?

As a previous Gen 3 Raptor owner I know they are fun trucks. I had an engine failure at 1600 miles, so got rid of it and went back to a 2023 Tundra TRD PRO in Solar Octane. Westcott lift & 35s really make the Tundra look bad ass.

I’m glad you got the Raptor. Now, I just hope you keep it more than a month. It’s a vehicle I’m genuinely interested in buying in a year or two, so a “long term” opinion coming from you would be nice.

You worked a great deal. Good job man. The bison was cool. But the Raptor is far superior. And to be able to essential work an even swap is great. This is my all time favorite truck and Avalanche is my favorite color.

But he did feel bad given the circumstances… I feel a ton better with the resale of this Raptor compared to the Chevy. Now I just need to take a moment and actually enjoy this one for a while. =]
I agree the Bison was cool, but not on the same level as the Raptor. My favorite color as well🔥
The dealer knew you’d mention him on the channel so they were willing to take a “haircut”. I’m sure you’ll be either trading this relatively immediately or putting 37’s on it.
By next week you’ll regret not getting the 37.
lol that’s a fact. I already told Mrs. Untamed that my next truck will be the Raptor R. So I’ll skip the 37 this go around and get the big dog. It’ll be a minute before those hit MSRP so I’ll do my best to keep this until that time comes around.
Nice Raptor! You definitely held onto that Chevy a lot longer than I thought you would. It the not so distant future this will all come full circle and you will be back in a Toyota.

I’m really liking these new raptors, very nice truck! That being said I miss the original army green tundra you had. Looking back now I’d still take that truck over everything you have had since, with vehicle prices and quality these days.
I’m with you there… wish I just kept ahold of that army green Tundra TRD pro. It was my favorite truck. I just refuse to pay $50K+ for one now with higher mileage.

A PIECE OF ADVICE. “Sell” your addiction to buying new cars to your viewers as “trying every truck in the market to find out which is best” instead of impulse buying and it will likely get less hate
ZR2weeks!! Owned one for about the same amount of time. You quickly realize that it’s not worth the price of admission. The ZR2 Colorado, love it! Something about the ZR2 1/2 ton doesn’t hit the mark… The Bison looks the part but falls short compared to other. Fake hood scoop, the MSSV shocks are a dud and , interior seats feel like park benches.
Great choice! You and I are kindred spirit with this truck roulette. Currently I’m daily driving 23 F250 tremor Azure, 3” leveled on 24 x 10s hostile wheels on 37’ Toyo Open Country.

23k on my 2022 raptor, love it more now than when I bought it.
Have the exact same spec as you except in white. Added Geiser springs, 37s, Baja lights, SVC armor, and some random stuff like PPF. Great daily and super capable.

Thanks Steve! Super pleased by how the numbers shook out… Kirk the sales manager actually showed me a print out that showed their net gains/loss on the sale. The dealership lost $8.37 on the whole deal. Their AutoNation Chevy dealership was buying the ZR2 for $75K so they took a $3500 “hit” just on the trade.

Strong buy, Congrats. I found a couple in the $78k range when looking for a new Raptor just recently. I was mainly interested in getting a 37, and found only 2 at msrp. The 90 grand msrp is tough to digest, so I found myself in a CPO 22 37 with the Torsen package and 10k miles on the clock. Pricing was right and saved quite a bit with the CPO deal compared to new.

I skipped a bed liner and just went with a BedRug for the bed floor. So nice and soft. Could sleep on it. I don’t care if sides of inside of bed get scratched.

That’s where all these low mileage new cars and trucks come from , people like us decide for whatever reason that the vehicle isn’t what we thought it would be so they traded them in or sold them early.

I just bought a 23 F150 xlt and couldn’t be happier, I traded in a 23 Ram Laramie that was losing value quickly and the seats bothered my sciatica issues.

I own the 2023 Ram TRX. I ordered outside of my home state. Flew out and drove it home. I can say that I respect and even admire the Raptor, Raptor R, Bronco Raptor and Ranger Raptor. I have been a Chevy/GMC guy all my life. But, with that being said, I will take the TRX or Raptor over a ZR2. It is a shame GM did nothing to compare. Great purchase and let the upgrades begin.

Yeah I’m going to… she wasn’t too impressed by how quick I swapped this time. Need to relax a bit… but feel much better “relaxing” with the Raptor versus the Chevy.
The only thing I’ll say about car swapping. My car swapping days cost me a lot of money, but more importantly, time with my young children. I really regret how much time I spent searching, negotiating, and just plain concentrating on this stuff when my kids were young and I was occupied with swapping cars every few weeks/months. There were failed negotiations, endless texts/emails, dealerships and just plain time sucks. And for every deal that went through, 3 fell apart. Now I’d pay anything to have that time back with them...🥴

I’ve been watching your videos ever since you took delivery of your Shelby GT350R. But today is the first time I’ve actually thought you were insane when it comes to vehicle purchase frequency lol. That’s because today I finally saw your taking delivery of the Bison and this video in the same day. “15 minutes ago this guy said he was going to own the Chevy for a while…”. Ends up being less than two weeks.
I'm thinking I'd like the above Raptor to have body colored fender flares instead of the black, especially if I go the oxford white color I'm leaning towards, but with the avalanche grey too. How do you think the body colored fender flares would look compared to the black here? And putting aside the money issue, do you wish you had the 37 as originally intended?

You should trade the raptor for a TRX in a couple weeks whilst you wait on the Lexus 550 to come out. I traded my Gen 2 Raptor for a 22 TRX and love it.
I’m sure I’d love a TRX. That supercharged V8 has to be a blast! I’ve committed to buying a Raptor R next. Just need to wait until they start arriving at sticker. I’ll aim to keep this Raptor until then. 🤞🏻

Dude I for real trade almost like you minus the size of the numbers. You are swinging that Lexus and the bison. Now a raptor. Plus don't forget you put a couple thousand of tires on the bison. It's a beautiful truck either way. I'd be happy. And I do love the 35's and the 37's. Do you know though, are there real snow tires, non-studded but real snows, not just 3 peak winter rated all seasons or all terrains, but real, softer rubber, good tread snow tires in the 37 size? How about the 35 size? And do you know what the specific tire specs are for both the 35's and 37's that come stock with the Raptor? (My little Jeep currently runs 235/70 R16's, for instance). Living in mountainy ski country, I'd love to run real snows Thanksgiving to Easter, and 3 peak rated all terrains Easter to Thanksgiving.

You made a great choice not just cause of resale value but overall..the zr2 bison doesn’t come near as close to being an all around great vehicle like a Gen 2 or Gen 3 raptor🤙🏾
You should look at the Montana LLC loophole. Wise move to dump the Bison even though I like it more than the Raptor.

Avalanche grey is so good. I understand all the reasons you swapped trucks. Too many people don’t consider resale. I’d drive the same color, and likely add an rsi smart cap to get through winter. Congrats (again) lol.

We get wholesale on them through one of the distributors we use for arb components etc, but the wait time is like 6-8 months if you don’t place stocking orders so I’ve never actually ordered one! Their resale is as good as the raptors if you ever want to part ways with the truck which with you is a high probability! Or just keep it for a raptor in your future… also probable!

You should trade it in for a Raptor with the 37 package. I have the 2023 Raptor 37 in Rapid Red. The 37 package just makes it look better.

I liked the Bison, Only real reason was lockers and a diesel. Raptors are very cool .
How much quicker is the 35s pkg compared to the 37s pkg ? Nice truck. Would have made the same decision
