    Yeah. I like my quiet bike. I come up on animals and people very easily. Especially in the wooded roads of Allegheny National park.

    Looks like a good mod would be to stick a long metal pole up the rear end and bash a new hole to make it flow better

    Thank you for making this video I've punched out the back with a screw driver and stop there I couldn't find anywhere what the hell was inside the klr650 2008 manual in my opinion leaves alot out ,but that was great .

    A very nice cutting job and filming but you sadly miss the fluid dynamics of how a four stroke single cylinder exhaust works. This exhaust is actually causing little restriction. It gradually converts a tremendously loud pressure pulse into a quiet continous gas flow. This allows to reduce the flow cross section gradually without restricting the flow.
    Proven by the point that "free flow" (=noisy) silencers rarely offer performance gains. If there are any gains they are no more than marginal and usually lie above max stock power in the top end of the rev band before the red line.

      Hi Jurgen, technically you may be right, but I did notice a difference. There must be some friction being added with all the extra pipe work in there, plus extra weight, and then of course not everyone wants a poot poot poot sounding exhaust........... ;)

      I wonder if they designed like this to help keep water out. If you notice on the muffler at least mine has the bolts to it. I thought well maybe it there to help drain water if you drop it in a water crossing. Just a guess...maybe not..

    I lasted a week with my KLR650 before the new tail pipe went on, that and a few carby mods on a brand new bike, made so much difference to the power of the bike, or it could just be the weight difference from the standard pipe to the new one, but great video. Saves me cutting up mine now. Cheers

    I did something similar on a 2002 muffler and the earlier muffler is much simpler. I cut mine at a 45 degree angle (from the rear can) and eliminated the large bulbous part. I replaced it with a piece of exhaust pipe from a mazda car with a 45 degree bend in it, and the result is a pipe that looks standard but weighs about ten pounds less. I cut out the 'tweety' in the can and made a deflector to keep exhaust stains off the rear fender. It is an improvement, the bike is still fairly quiet--the only downside is its labor intensive--and you must have a welder, a MIG in my case.

    What year is that, and what region (world) bike did it come off? Reason I ask is the 2006 U.S. KLR I have has a completely different setup inside the back end. There's a long perforated pipe in mine that goes in about 8" directly from the back of the muffler. Splitting that inside perforated pipe with a long cold chisel cleared up the tweety bird sound quite a bit.

    • @nigelclemens4435
      @nigelclemens4435  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi there WheeliePete, I don't know what year its off as I bought it off the local Gumtree Trading App just for this purpose. It is from the Australian version, but I don't know if they are different for each country.

    Great. I just fitted the Lexx muffler to my KLR 650. So much better. Great video and great cutting work on that hideous Muffler. I cant believe Kawasaki kept on making them like that for such a long time. I just don't get it? All Kawasaki now need is to create an all new KLR 650 with all the fruit. Such as Fuel injection, Sports muffler and switchable ABS brakes.

      They did it for the global CAFE standards. They even quit making it to fuel injector it due to this. The green meanies are ruining everything. Fast as they can.

    No wonder why they sound like a damn generator! I put a DG "muffler" on mine. Did a Delkavic system on my DL650 too. Both much nicer sounds.

    • @larryjanson4011
      @larryjanson4011 Před rokem +1

      thought? how many db's would this muffler take off a contractor generator? (say a 8000 watt unit) yes i know a lot of sound is directly off the motor it's self. not via the exhaust. but gen sound is easy contained via housing in a cinder block shack.
      my thinking home back up gen set. why let the whole county know it is running.

    • @danmanthe9335
      @danmanthe9335 Před 6 lety

      I think the converter is either the 'batting ' in the second chamber or in the perforated steel between chambers. Could be wrong though
