Hello everyone, the 2nd episode of East New York is here: czcams.com/video/HnYpE1wphCY/video.html
    Content Update:
-I have an Amish series coming soon.
-I'm hoping to do a series on Appalachia (the left behind part) and Native Americans (hopefully the Navajo Nation but I'm open to other tribes).
Do any of you have contacts of interesting characters that want to bring me into Appalachia or the Native American world?
If so please email me at: contact@petersantenello.com
    Thanks!

I was wondering what is so addictive about this channel, for me it seems to be how empathetic and devoid of judgement Peter comes across. Faced with some people who are being ignored, judged and written off, Peter appears to be open to learning about their struggles when even their own governments can't/won't. Incredible journalism from a real human perspective.

I started my teaching career in East New York on Shepherd Ave between Blake and Dumont, about 10 minutes for Cypress. Was an education for me for sure. A lot of obstacles those kids face, but also a tremendous amount of resilience and talent amongst them. Honestly, the talent shows always blew me away.
My first year I idiotically left my purse with my Iphone and about $60 in cash on a bench in the Shepherd Ave subway station. When I realized what I had done, I came back to the station and asked the attendant if anyone had turned in a purse, and there it was waiting for me. A lot of good people living in very tough conditions.

Nobody in a wheelchair, no homeless people anywhere in this video. It's like they have someone come clean up the place before they shoot the video. Women on a bench, all made up, no wrinkles in their clothes, full make up, lookin' good. Brothers spitting philosophical, using words like 'frivolous'. No gunshots, no sirens, no nothing in this video.

I was born in East New York/ Bushwick area. We lived in a 3 family brownstone which my grandparents owned we are very traditional Italians, even had a goomba living with us who I thought was my uncle. The first floor tenants were a black couple who ran a barber shop out of the store front in the same building. My parents left me with these wonderful people all the time, a barbershop with old black men who put up with a blond pigtailed brat..me. My grandfather discovered the barber stabbed to death one morning. The violence of the neighborhood was just like now. We moved to Rockville Centre within a month and my grandparents sold. What's old is new again. The neighborhood was once beautiful. It's up to them.

Your approach to interviewing people as an open minded student really shows when people open up and share their message compared to any other time they've seen someone behind the camera with an agenda, an angle for self gain instead of trying to connect people of all walks of life and share the message of peace and hope

Living in the Projects is a gift and a curse. It's affordable housing for people that need it. It was a close nit community. The village raised the kids. I'm a 80's baby. Summer time projects was one of the funniest places to be. We played outside all day and made up games. We were very creative and innovative. Fights happened but we were good the next day. On the downside was the violence and oppression. The strong minded and strong willed will find a way out. It's meant to help you get on your feet and get out of there. I'm not from New York. But this is "Projects" across the US.

I grew up in East New York, during the worse times. I was born in 1970s and lived in this area from 1983- 1994. I have seen violence that active duty soldiers have not witnessed. I have witnessed first hand the crack epidemic, Aids epidemic, and the beginning of gang life in Brooklyn. I can tell you also, there is love, laughter, respect, and a want and desire to succeed just like any other human being from people who have survived that era. If you want to know what East New York needs, they told you implicitly resources. But if you want to expand on that I could tell you that people in this neighborhood are some of the most generous people on earth and all they need is opportunity. Everyone has an aspiration to fulfill the American Dream. Creating jobs in the community is the best way to help people. Imagine, having manufacturing, and training in East New York. Real jobs for real people that want to propel themselves. We invest so much of our resources on bullets and bombs for the Ukraine, we invest in prisons, but we need to invest on our brethren in East New York. What are the jobs of the right now? Poor people are the hardest workers on earth. Lets push for schools to have customer service jobs in the schools where girls and boys can learn phone etiquette. Why are these jobs shipped to India? or other countries? We have untapped labor force right here. Why not create a teenage workforce to grow food in these food deserts and pay them. Why don't we have real training for people available in this community? Like HVAC training, electrician, mechanical, computer programming, engineering. Talent is spread across the entire community. This community doesn't need nickels and dollars, they need opportunities to change their life. Real Economic opportunities. That is what East New York needs. Police reform is needed. I believe that anyone who wants to be a sergeant or higher in the police force should be required to live in a poor neighborhood for a period of 60 days. They need to eat their, sleep their and learn how to communicate with the people that live in poor communities. If the police leadership is good, that leadership filters down to the police force. Good attitudes are learned by the rank and file form their leaders. I made it out of poverty, but being poor is not a sin and in many instances it isn't even a choice. Ask your self why do people commit most crimes? Most crimes are crimes of financial gain. Imagine if that financial gain could be sought and readily available to the people of East New York? These are some of the most industrious people on earth.

"We invest so much of our resources on bullets and bombs for the Ukraine"- government invest on it, because they'll get tons of money back. Either of gun trafficking and Ukraine has a huge export of agriculture products and USA want to put a hand on it as well as Russia. "Why are these jobs shipped to India?"- because the salary is much lower there. "Why don't we have real training for people available in this community?"- because it's harder to control educated people by the media. At least this is my opinion. "I made it out of poverty" - I did it too and know how difficult it is, so congrats, I hope the best for you in the future!
