    If you dont have anything inbetween your skid plate and the oil pan, theres a chance a rock can get inbetween them and when something hits the bottom; that rock can punch a hole in your oil pan. Ive seen a bunch of other people use a heat resistant foam.

    Kinda curious if the rx 2019 supermini was the inspiration for this car :p I was thinking about it as well. My and my pal always talk hypoteticly about starting to race rally while playing dr2.0 lol

    I have a 2012 mini copper S clubmen what are some things that I should bulletproof on it and what is prone to breaking?

    • @HNPRacing
      @HNPRacing  Před 3 měsíci

      Rear suspension design is the biggest weak point. Where the strut attaches to the trailing arm is super low, so it will get sprayed with enough gravel to eat away at it and is prone to hitting larger rocks. I ended up attaching some aluminum plates to the trailing arm with a custom bracket to act as a shield. The bolt holding the strut to the trailing arm is also prone to backing out under the vibration. You will need to check it every opportunity. I didn't and that ended my rally day.

    Can a car like this be driven on the road?

    • @HNPRacing
      @HNPRacing  Před 4 lety +2

      Stage rally cars have to be registered and legal. We have to drive on public roads to get to each stage.

    • @HNPRacing
      @HNPRacing  Před 3 lety

      When I started building it, the main rallying sanctioning body had a rule that novice drivers had to use naturally aspirated engines. So I couldn't use an S

    What exactly do you mean when you say the Cooper is a pain in the ass? I’m curious, as I’ve been contemplating one for a rally build. Lots of great info in here! Thanks for the video!

    • @HNPRacing
      @HNPRacing  Před 4 lety

      You will have to do almost everything custom. There aren't pre-made rally parts for them. The community that turns these into actual race cars isn't huge so when you have electrical issues and wondering how to disable features, you have to figure it out yourself. Also the rear suspension is not designed well for rally. It requires extra protection, and I would still recommend complete spares for the rear, just in case

      @HNPRacing  Před 3 měsíci

      At this time, it was probably about $8k - $10k on top of the cost of the car. Way different today with how much costs have come up. Cage costs alone have pretty much doubled.
