    A lot of you aren't seeing the big picture here. Yes this should have been released years before. And yes the headphone jack is dying.
    But what you need to know is if anyone had a normal phone or tablet especially old iPads and Android tablet this pen would be great to change those devices into drawing device with pressure sensitivity without having to pay a ton for a new device or pen.
    Also the headphone jack is what gives it pressure sensitivity.
    Alot of my friends are poor and can't even afford normal graphic tablets or won't take the risk.
    But this pen will definitely won't be a regret because it can be used on whatever you have.

      If you have a laptop or pc then you could buy a tablet for under $40. My one has great pressure sensitivity, tilt function, no battery required, etc. But this is a great option if you can't afford an Apple Pencil for an iPad/not supported or you have an android.

    I dont know for art studio but in most app that sonar pen support after the first connection you need to set the pressure sensitivity of the sonar pen, like for example in ibis paint it asks you to draw thin and thick lines to adjust to your pressure, as for medibang each paintbrush has a fade with pressure and size by pressure options so you need to check whether its ticked or not, this silly checkup you have to do even when I have to use Wacom on my desktop. I bought this pen for my Samsung tabA and it works wonderful, obviously, if I compare with Samsung note's default stylus that comes with it has its differences all yu need to do is give this pen time and love and get use to it which takes 3 to 4 days.

  • @Marvin_R
    @Marvin_R Před 4 lety +1

    the wacom stylus should have perfect palm rejection if the app is designed and configured properly.
    it uses a separate touch sensor, so the app should be able to completely ignore capacitive input for drawing, and the OS blocks all capacitive input anyway whenever a compatible wacom stylus is within 1 inch from the screen.
    the sonar pen uses a more crude palm rejection method that likely uses pressure to detect wether you're touching with your palm or a stylus, reliability of this heavily depends on how well the app has this implemented.

Maybe if you are on a budget and only do notes or doodle occasionally it's good. But as someone who draws everyday and anywhere- I shelled out 65$ for an apple pencil because it's more reliable. I have a nice, basic stylus like this from Meko. The whole point of the disc tip is so that we can see the actual tip of the stylus better like we do with standard implements, and have more eye-hand coordination when trying to do things like closing a circle. The disc itself is not what activates the screen rather the small rubber nib at the center of it is. The disc gives us better stability and surface area for certain apps. That being said I had four nibs when I bought it about 10 years ago and now I have two left. The rubber part that connects the disc to the pen does get worn out with enough rotation and will split or tear right off and the coating on the underside of the disc like to rub off too.

    Honestly, when my younger brother got a stylus with the circular plastic disk tip we thought that it was a piece of plastic that wasn’t supposed to be on the tip of it. We tried to take it off, but we weren’t able to & he slowly stopped using it. A few months later, I found out that the reason why there’s a circular disk is that one: _some are made like that._ two: _so when you write with it, it glides on the screen._ & three: _it’s there so that it doesn’t scratch your screen as mush as a pointed tip stylus would, like a Logitech Crayon or an Apple Pencil._ Even though I point that out about circular disk tip stylus’, I personally prefer the pointed tip stylus’ over the circular disk tip stylus’ because to me it feels more accurate than a circular disk tip stylus.

    Something I personally recommend as a much less expensive option compared to an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, is an iPad Air (first gen) and an Adobe Ink! The Ink retails on Amazon for about $30, connects via Bluetooth, works with Procreate (you link it as an Adonit), works especially well with Adobe apps (duh), no disc tip, and has pressure sensitivity! No palm rejection, but I use an art glove (about $5) and have no issues with it. This is the setup I use, and highly recommend to those of us who are too broke for a $700+ setup. They have a USB C version, would work great on iPhone that don’t have pressure sensitivity.

    Seems like a great alternative for folks who still have previous generations of iPads that can’t afford the newer iPads and pencil.

    I seriously loved that you made this video
    I have my iPad for only 3 years by now so I don’t really wanna change it,but it’s a iPad Mini 2, a model from 2013-14 so yeah it sucks knowing that none of the Apple Pencils are compatible with mine
    A lot of people are bragging that the Apple Pencil is better n stuff, but artists who aren’t as lucky with getting new n expensive stuff like me; this almost a blessing that it exists
    I also genuinely wish that companies stop removing the headphone jack like brUh
    Overall I loved this,thanks🖐

    the disk basicly allows you to have a smaller point blocking the view because disk is transparent.. for the rest its just a stylus to be used on capacitive screens.. the soundjack plug trans mists the pressure info and the buttons if it has any.. if you can draw without pressure sensitivity just buy regualt disk pen cheaply without wires

    The first time I saw this SonarPen was about over a year ago on Teoh Yi Chie's channel. I remember he said that this is his friend's project and--at that time--they weren't sold commercially yet because they're still trying to collect backers for their KickStarter funding. So Teoh had the opportunity to review their prototype model and yeah, even then, the palm rejection was always kind of... Off. But the pressure sensitivity works ok, though..

      I know this comment is old but I have the sonar pen and it’s really good with FlipaClip and ibisPaint x. The only problems I have with it is having to recconnect it sometimes, the nib seems just a little flimsy and you can’t listen to audio while it’s plugged in, which is still pretty good for a rly cheap pen. If ur good at art just take commissions using the pen u have now and try to save up the money for better equipment ^^

  • @JoeGillian0

    Not supported on os level for pressure sensitivity and they should be using bluetooth instead of relying on a cable through audio jack....but it is an interesting idea

    I have this. I like it, but it’s 4-5 years too late. Would have been what one needed back then when competition was Wacom and Adonit. I like it on my iPad mini though and play with it on that. Ibis paint is by far the best app for it. Best pressure curve.

  • @petitio_principii
    @petitio_principii Před 4 lety

    Weird, I'd guess the driver would make a pen work pretty much the same regardless of the program you're using it in. There could be variation between program to program, but it would sort of affect a different hardware similarly. If one program seems to have a different pressure curve, it would be nearly the same for any hardware, at least insofar as the hardware is equivalent. Maybe it actually has different pressure curve settings somewhere, for different devices?

  • @Vall_Ey
    @Vall_Ey Před 5 lety

    I think they supposed to be more focusing on palm rejection than pressure sensitivity, and I still wonder why still using cord if we already seen in the old days using bluetooth.

    Personally I think the sonar pen worked better first you said it had bad palm rejection
    (Two minutes later) Apple Pencil makes random dots
    I think the small things of the sonar did were difficult to see.
