This man was one of the biggest magician's in tennis history. Despite being one of the shortest players ever, he had an unorthodox style with two handed forehands that could beat anyone on his day.
In this video we’re taking a look at two of the most famous matches of his career, where the magician completely outplayed Roger Federer & Novak Djokovic.

Using his left hand on the forehand slice, really interesting. Even letting go with the right hand sometimes so it's like a left-handed backhand slice with a high grip.

Santoro was sooo wily…. I love the journeymen in tennis, who so often show us that every dog has its day! Great court IQ and ability to vary the pace of his shots and just place the ball where it needed to be. Tactically astute. Reminds me a bit of Tomic, before he imploded. When Tomic was still trying he was one of the most exciting and unique talents I still I’ve seen in tennis, a one off never intended for mass production!

Thank you for highlighting some other interesting and entertaining ayers from the recent past. Like Hseih Su Wei, it's great to show there's more than one way to play tennis. And for sure, his style caused some top players problems when they initially faced him, they were able to eventually figure out and solve his game..... But let's all appreciate shots you just do not see often of at all in the modern game. A total entertainer.

Most fans of the big 3, who whine with excuses whenever their beloved stars are beaten think they love tennis, but honestly IMO it’s the journeymen who are unique who show us how much variety of play style and tactics is actually possible in this most beautiful of sports. They make the sport richer, and give it its soul! It’s sooo nice to see different players and styles…

Exactly. Santoro vs Safin was a very entertaining matchup because Safin was all about power and shotmaking, whereas Santoro was all about finesse and "toying" with his opponents. Complete contrast of playing style. Everyone used to talk about Federer vs Nadal when it came to complete contrast of playing style, but to me Santoro vs Safin was a better example.

Not exactly. His forehand grip still was a right handed forehand though he would let go often to make it look like it was a lefthanded slice. Look at his forehand in slow motion and you see he has a cross grip on it. It really is unique. I say this because while I am right handed, I play tennis with a lefty two-handed backhand and a righty two-handed backhand.
