    This is the series to watch if you want to get into podcasting, I came across it while researching how to get started on my own podcast and it has been immensely helpful to me. Thank you Pat, you really get across the finer points of what and whatnot to do as well as the basics ! Watching your videos gives me more confidence in my ability to produce my own show and get my audience built up sooner than later. I was about to make all the mistakes you warned about, because frankly, I had no idea what to do. I have been writing online opinion columns for years and I have a great audience with that, but I wanted to get into podcasting to get those thoughts and messages out to my audience and hopefully gain new followers in the process. Now I feel that I have more confidence in doing this thanks to your video tutorials. ~ Rob D.

    Hey, this is great. I'm an author who has been considering recording my books. I don't charge for my books, because I want people to have them for free, long story there. I thought about making each chapter a podcast, that way new people could go back to chapter one and listen in chunks, instead of the whole book on one podcast. They are long books. I have them free on line as blog posts, but I know I like listening instead of reading, as I have ADHD really bad, and listening is a great help to us who struggle with keeping on task.

    Pat, we have a ton of amazing pro equipment leftover from my musician live gigging days: Allen & Heath 16:2 Mix Board, AKG C535B condenser mic (now discontinued...the best vocal mic in the studio I ever heard), AKG D5 mic, Shure SM58, SPX90 reverb, plus more. The irony is that we are NOT USING any of it: we are using a simple Samson Q2U mic directly into a MacPro, and do all remote recordings through Zoom now instead which is an improvement in quality over Call Recorder through Skype which is what we used to do (Note: we will be switching to Squadcast soon, so we can record directly into an uncompressed .wav file).
    I use Audacity free version for post production, a video editing tool I like, and then publishing all our content through Libsyn. We think we are getting a good sound quality (are now up to episode #76) - but being somewhat of an audio file I always feel the sound quality could be further improved. However, I love the simplicity of our current setup up - and our listeners care more about our content anyway.
    Do you think it would be overkill to use all of that pro live music equipment I already own for the podcast, or are we cheating ourselves by not using it?

Unlike many Americans who prefer contracting their words while speaking very fast. I wonder why they do it: Are they lazy? Or are they so busy that every second becomes extremely important? Or haven't they learned speech? For the educated Filipinos, the manner you speaks is schooled. BRAVISSIMO!!!

      Is possible on a Mac very easily without any extra equipment (probably on a pc too but I’m not familiar)-you just plug in two usb mics and make an aggregate audio device in preferences. I won’t explain it all here because there are peeps out there doing so in a much clearer fashion. Search CZcams or the web and there are plenty of great tutorials. It is surprisingly easy

      On a Mac, and I bet there is a way to do this on pc, if you plug in two usb mics, you can create an aggregate audio device and record on two tracks simultaneously on GarageBand. Again, I only know Mac but there are great videos and online tutorials on how to do this without an external mixer

      Use Zoom or Zencastr. Or just do it over the phone, assuming you both have separate recorders / mics. You’ll have to sync the audio in post, but people will think you’re in the same room!

    • @jose301
      @jose301 Před 5 lety +8

      You would need various cameras recording different angles and then in editing you'd need to sync all the cameras together and cut in between them

    Can I do this for gaming voice overs? I have a cheapo Neewer condenser mic for 40 comes with stand shock mount pop filter and ever phantom power. Though the mic sounds webcam quality. I wanted a mic for podcast and also gaming.

      Legally, that is a big no go. I wouldn't record interviews because if the applicant makes a complaint you would have to provide them any and all information.

    Nice video. As an audio engineer and sound technology developer I believe the "ICE" model of BLUE brand microphones is unbeatable notwithstanding that it is surprisingly inexpensive. One reason for this relates to it spherical case configuration, which has unique acoustic properties not duplicated even by their higher priced models. In particular room reverberation are minimally detected by this particular microphone.

    • @prodstevie
      @prodstevie Před 5 lety

      stylistmatt if you’re just podcasting on it, the air will work just fine! Once you start getting into heavier software is when the pro comes in handy. Overall I would recommend getting the pro, however if it’s just for podcasting, the air will suffice :)
