I switched to a polypropylene bokken after a training bout with one of Obata's students. His white oak broke my beechwood bokken, if he wasn't skilled enough to pull his strike after shattering my bokken, I would likely have been knocked out or concust. I still keep the broken bokken as a reminder that there is always someone or something more powerful. In following bouts with the polypropylene bokken(s) my bokkens haven't broken or shattered.
Just curious, what Katana are you comparing this too? The average weight of a Katana is 2.5 pounds, give or take. This weighs in 1.73 pounds, close to a full pound lighter.
Hello, great videos and channel! Maybe you have info when will cold steel make new unbreakable bokkens? Currently they are out of stock almost everywhere and I've heard cold steel has some issues with the owner change. Before they shipped the bokkens every half a year to my country, but now there is no info when cold steel will make new ones:( P.S. I would order it from your website, but sadly the shipping is almost x2 of the bokkens price, i live too far away.
I bought one of these today at a gun shop in the US . They let me have it at the price of $22 USD and a Cold steel training Bowie for $8 USD which was the prices they paid for them . They made no profit , but I'm buying a Savage .22LR rifle from them in a few days .
So I own one of the original bokens and the main reason it wasn't accepted at my dojo was because of balance but also they won't accept a newer one because they don't like how to handle looks but if the newer ones have better balanced and didn't have the weird handle I think my Dojo would accept it
Hi Marcus, what I meant was people like smashing their weapons against all kinds of things to 'test' them out. We get people coming back in the shop who have beaten the hell out of a wooden weapon and eventually broken it. This won't happen with this bokken as it's incredibly tough. If you are smashing concrete blocks the bokken won;t break. that's what i meant
Hey do you know when there gonna be back in stock because I wanna get one for Christmas and I’ve been coming to the website looking and seeing if They were back in stock and nothing yet??
i just bought a generic plastic saya on amazon and ajust it for the coldsteal , fit perfectly after adjustement :) made a video about it on my channel ! Peace
Question do you think it would be paintable? Depends on the paint of course but the material has a lot to do with that. I’m considering using this for a cosplay
Try going for acrylic or spray paint just note that it's hard to paint a curved surface, I'm no cosplayer but I had to paint recently and I have a ton of spray paint cans😅
Hey man, yeah sure no problem. Just order it online www.ensomartialarts.com, add a note in the comments box when you're buying it and we'll get it cut and shipped out to you
If it comes bended it would probably mean that the plastic warped due to the heat of the truck or some other factor to cause a warp. It happens time to time with polypropylene trainers but I personally like it though.
would this be a good self defense weapon to carry around? i considered buying pepper spray or hidden weapons, but they are so small and i am not one for close up self defence ;;-v-) (trying to see if i could get a license to carry, cause i was followed and harassed today.)
Can only advise for the UK and you can't carry weapons with the aim of defending yourself here. Other places I don't know, but it is unbreakable and is longer than a can of pepper spray
Cold Steel sells polypro walking canes too . I'm an American . I'm not up on British laws , but I believe that their laws harshly restrict carrying weapons of any sort for self defense . You might consider carrying something like an umbrella . Something like a bokken can get you in trouble with the law as it is designed as a weapon and looks suss .
Hello, I've never seen a saya for the Wakizashi, but you can use the regular plastic saya and cut them down, it's not perfect but it's pretty close and way better than nothing

Ok, a regular sized katana weighs about 1.1 kilos and that bokken weighs just under 600 grams, so it’s nowhere near the weight of a real katana. As a matter of fact it’s about half the weight!

@@EnsoMartialArts I was stationed at Yokosuka Japan for two years shore duty as a US Navy Military Policeman in the early 90s . With removal of the tsu ba this is a great home/shop defense implement (especially with that agressive tip)

hi, I bought a Cold Steel bokken but my cuba broke, I wonder what is the name of a training katana that is made of steel and is not sharp ?
Its called an Iaito
Is this training Bokken any useful for self defense?
white oak would be better, because i expect the plastic to flex more thus taking away power from the strikes.
Yes, speaking from experience: czcams.com/video/N9oDZmvMktQ/video.html
Question do you think it would be paintable? Depends on the paint of course but the material has a lot to do with that. I’m considering using this for a cosplay
