My IceHouse vinyl still gets a lot of play- from USA
Aaah yes The Flowers and Ida Davies. Great band but nothing compared to Mental as Anything!

Crazy vanished from Radio 1 within weeks, never played again.
I used to live in Australia for a very long period of time and love Australian music and their culture. I had the chance to see many Aussie and international concerts while living in Sydney. I love you, Australia, for giving me the best time of my life that I will never forget.
I had no idea Rick Springfield is Australian 🤯
Me neither. Always assumed he was American.
It's amazing how much American don't know about Australian music, movies and TV shows .. 😔
He was in “The Zoot”
Lol - i kept saying "wait Rick Springfield is Australian? You mean Noah Drake?" Hahaha
Born in Australia but basically lives and breathes American air.
I'd forgotten how awesome Iva Davies mullet was.
a full, flowing, thick and noble mullet of true excellence.
I'd forgotten about Jason Donovan, thank fcuk.
Australian talents are one of the greatest in the world..'nuff said..love INXS..Men At Work..here in the Philippines..👍💖💿📀🇵🇭
Hi cooma stu koya? All the way from australia
@Enza Di Martino Yes, but they're not the best in the world though!
@Enza Di Martino Cool, good band. Miss them.
Love INXS!!!😍😍😍
Despite being huge the Australian music industry is so underrated when it comes to music compilations on youtube. Therefore thanks for this video. 😍
Australians really glow and thunder, these are some of the greatest 80s artists ever!!! Thanks for this compilation Random Guy!
Will take a while to get the smile off my face. All those songs I listened to endlessly at home - and then when I was backpacking through Australia twice in the 80s. Fell in love with the country. Still am. Been living here for 20 years now and a proud citizen for 18 of those!
Speaking of Australian music, Midnight Oil has a new mini album out on Friday!
Hunters & Collectors "Throw your arms around me" not being included makes me sad. Could have also used some songs by The Church and Hoodoo Gurus. The Saints, Lime Spiders, and DM3 would have made my day, but wasn't expecting any of them here.
@drag0nfly_girl Throw Your Arms Around Me by H&C was in 86 I believe. All of the others I mentioned were 80s as well, except for DM3... shouldn't have included them as they were 90s.
Growing up here in Australia in the 80s was by far the greatest era of my life. This video was such an incredible trip down memory lane into my childhood. Thank you so much.... now I'm off to listen to my 80s playlist...yet again 😁
Autralian are the best!!!! And Michael Hutchence is my favourite for all the time!❤
Great list, thank-you. Of course not enough time with many other bands/artists having huge hits like...Angels, Baby Animals, Big Pig, BCO, Choirboys, Church, Cruel Sea, Braithwaite, Diesel, Do Re Mi, Dragon, Dynamic Hepnotics, Eurogliders, Gurus, Hunters, Mossy, James Reyne, Jenny Morris, Kids in the Kitchen, Machinations, Mi-Sex, Noiseworks, Paul Kelly, Pseudo Echo, Skyhooks, Sports, Sunnyboys, Uncanny X-Men...and so many more. But cheers mate, bloody good.
Baby Animals was in the 90s. Early Warning was released in 1991.
@@NickSamon cool
I'LL ADD The Stems, Died Pretty, Weddings Parties Anything, Cruel Sea, Hoodoo Gurus,
"What about me?" by Moving Pictures is one of my favorite songs of all time.
I heard a lot of these songs in 🇨🇦. Great songs.
So many top notch artists and songs ... very impressive ... INXS are my favorites...
The Aussie music from back then was every bit as good as what we had here in the states,(really) loved it!! Thank you Random for another fantastic vid:) You always know how to make great content!
I'd forgotten about Rick Springfield being from Australia. He sounded convincingly American on General Hospital back in the day.
Rock Springfield and Olivia Newton John were born in Australia, but their music is totally american. Songwriters, producers, style, videos, etc.
@@MemoBar100 Olivia was actually born in England
@@michellebostock4276 thank you on the information. I didn’t know that... 👍
@@michellebostock4276 nice place Australia 🇦🇺 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Olivia was certainly gorgeous in the Xanadu video!
I love Australia!!!
YES!!! Finally a list of songs I know since I’m from Down Under. You should do another list with Australian and NZ songs from the 90’s!
Nah.
Yeah that would be cool
Agreed
@@NickSamon i mean Don't Dream It's Over is Popular in NZ, even though my mom liked it
@@Cold187King Reminder, Don't Dream It's Over was popular in the UK but it wasn't till 1996 when it got popular. WHAT?
Split Enz - Message to my girl
Wedding dance to that song
Kiwi band
Dragon and Split Enz were/ are New Zealand groups.
Yeah?
This list says Australian and New Zealand
This is music from every dance, or party in my teen years. What a trip down memory lane. Thanks.
😊 Omg, my oldest cousin on my dad's side was and still is a HUGE Air Supply fan.
Awesome, what an amazing compilation video of Australian and New Zealand artists. This video truly brings back the memories! Stay Gold, Australia's Retro Man.
Kylie and Jason were all written produced and recorded in the UK..
How it's worded the only condition to be on the list is that it was an 80's hit song according to some Australian chart. Vanilla Ice could be there and it still be accurate.
Yet Kylie Minogue is Australian because she was on the show neighbours same with Jason
You're the voice 😍😍😍
@Ian Thompson Make a noise and make it clear.
Pseudo Echo Listening
She's hidden amongst all these "stars" but Kylie Minogue was a phenomenon, and her first hit, Locomotion was the biggest selling record in Australia FOR The DECADE! How many of these featured artists are still going in 2023. Kylie is.
Absolutely true! The only queen of pop! Kylie!
You don’t know what year it is?
She wasn't even the highest selling australian female artist in that decade
Love this list of our great musicians from our beautiful country 💕
WHAT A LIST!
Klasse Hits, die Zeit kommt nicht mehr wieder. 👍👍👍
👋👋👋. Congratulations Some Random guy. I'm waiting for british, german, french, italian and american stars of 80s.
You’ll be waiting a while😂
@@westaussie965 It"s doesn't matter for me. 😂😂
these record companies that keep flagging might be losing out on a sale.
The mullet was really popular down there.

Thank you for making this video. You have absolutely no idea how wonderful it is to hear all these songs again!
Wasn't The Church from Down Under?
Yes
Yeah they are
Yes from Perth
I had no idea that Jason Donovan was that popular in the 80's. There is a tie in which My favorite song from the 80's that are from Australia. "Electric blue" from "Icehouse", and "Funky town".
Ya Jason had four number-one hits here in the UK. :)
He was extremely popular with his 2 first albums
Excellent compilation!

Please do a Canadian Hits of the ‘80’s video!
Icehouse and Men At Work ❤❤❤
Icehouse ❤️
I am so proud to be Aussie 😇✨🧡
Good chosen songs. Would have been nice to see Big Pig especially with Breakaway but a solid selection :) 👍🏻
And Hungry Town.
One of my fav songs ever!
Icehouse is my favorite.
Awesome
Another awesome compilation my friend! I also like Rose Tattoo, Moving Pictures and a 1927 song i really like is "Compulsory Hero."
Viele Danke, Muchas Gracias, Thank You very much again Random Guy for another amazing video and for being able to repost it!! Definitely these artists from the lands "down under" deserve more recognition; and their contributions in the 80s as we see here in my opinion are great!! Keep up as always the great work and the memories alive!!😄😄😁😁🥰🥰👍👍
4:54 Michael Hutchence 1960-1997 I am born on Nov 4 2008
Olivia Neutron Bomb and Kylie Minogue were always 2 of my top ten crushes of all time.
Except ONJ is English not Australian.
@@georgebarnes8163Except she was essentially Australian except for her first 5 years (according to Wikipedia) and later became a dual-citizen
@@SayAhh also held US citizenship, she ended up living in the USA
Kylie is so awsome shes still goin shes makeing music today!!
Good some INXS
Top AUSTRALASIAN Hit Songs of the '80s would be a more accurate title.
Did you actually watch the video? At the very start the words said "Artists from Australia AND New Zealand"!
@@Rage_Harder_Then_Relax Yes, and a good observation but I was simply referring to the title that appears on the feed.
Great collection from my childhood, and many that I didn't know where Australian and NZ.
I could have coped with a few less Kylie and Jason, and more from Chantoozies, Hunters & Collectors, Uncanny X-Men, Hoodoo Gurus...
OMG I LOVE CHANTOOZIES AND UNCANNY X-MEN! Again, Both bands didn't went worldwide outside Australia.
@@NickSamon But they did in New Zealand though!
INXS--What you need
Cool list ! I also didn't know Rick Springfield was Australian. Just missed Icehouse's "No Promises".
A few good bands missing, Kids in the Kitchen and Boom Crash Opera, Noiseworks to name a few.
Olivia Newton John is British born in Cambridge 1948, didn’t see icehouse with the song hey little girl on here and no hunters and collectors😳
as were the members of AC/DC and the Bee Gees.
Aussies sure have the best mullets
Thank you for making this video, you should make Australian hits of the 70s and plus make videos of Japan,China and Korea hits of the 80s
I do enjoy the choices with some of them I think are great or good 80's aussie classics
Quite a few of these were "one hit wonders" outside Australia. Also, seemingly just a handful of artists/bands. I do remember a lot of Australian music from the 1980s, but apart from the fact that I don't listen a lot to contemporary music any more, the supply seems a lot less than it was in the 1980s.
Didnt know that Rick Springfield was Australian
So you've never heard of Zoot?
Same here bro!
He moved to the US to begin his career. all that time i thought he was american
Born in Sydney
@@ruantengyi He is also American
I have the "Air Supply: Greatest Hits" CD. I bought it used at a thrift shop.
Kylie minogue 😘😘🥰
It is just like I had 16 again!
Neil Finn who is a lead singer of Auckland's Split Enz & Melbourne's Crowded House is born in
New Zealand
Ffs! Typical kiwi whinger
@@ykook7000 dude, you don't need to swear bro, it's just a comment dox
@@ykook7000 Didn't you see the title, it says the biggest 80's hits by artists from Australia & New Zealand
umm I thought Noiseworks would have been a consideration, all three albums went platinum and their self titled album when platinum x 3 . But appreciate that you spent time showing the world that Australia can produce some great national and international acts.
Great.
Kylie: Queen of Australian pop
Oi mate love the videos, this is my favorite one I also used it to help to me add songs to my aussie playlist, My favorite song is flame trees by cold chisel BTW
Kylie Minogue ruled the world
Still rules it!
So, no mention of The Fixx, The Church, or The The? Wth? I still love all these guys! Aussie 80s bands were awrsome!
The The aren't from Oz, they're from UK.
Nice list...I would add Noiseworks "No Lies"
I love noiseworks.
everybody know that break dance was all you ever heard in the 1980's suburbs.... teens with cardboard boxes and people spinning around on their heads and butts and stomachs.... ie:Herbie Hancock with Rockit etc....
Any missing Aussie Artists in the 80s like Goanna and Uncanny X-Men?
Eurogliders, Cold Chisel, The Church.
@@kazbutler I love the Eurogliders.
Also Noiseworks, Paul Kelly, Indecent Obsession, Billy Field, Mi-sex, Dragon, Jenny Morris, Johnny Diesel & the injectors, Kate Ceberano, Australian Crawl/James Reyne and Kids in the kitchen are all missing.
@@belessretarded4770 I love all those bands you said.

Here’s some few canadian hits I know, My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone) Chilliwack, Innocence Harlequin, You're A (Strange Animal) Gowan. A Criminal Mind Gowan, And I Did It For Love By Harlequin
Kylie dons her mechanic outfit 😍
I thought Olivia Newton-John and Rick Springfield were American. I also thought INXS was British.
Nope, all Aussies.
Jared Lammi....very interesting your comment. Several of these artists from Australia and New Zealand became more popular outside their homeland. Olivia Newton-John is indeed British born and Australian raised (same case with Barry Gibb and their late siblings of the Bee Gees). At their careers' peak they established themselves in the US and still living there. Rick Springfield was a soap opera actor in the US and his music career was strongest there also. Over the years obviously he acquired more of an American accent. INXS may have some British influence (new wave) in their music although not entirely. Then there's Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, both soap opera stars of Neighbours back home, yet with their music carrers being started and strongest in the UK. Both currently residing there, and in Kylie's case at least, she sounds more British as the years goes by. I was confused with Little River Band being from the US with their late 70s/early 80s American style soft rock.
@@rkyrkrdo These are some very interesting tidbits indeed.
@@JaredtheRabbit ....Yes they are indeed!!Both the US and the UK being among the strongest music markets, it made sense in a way in my opinion for them to focus strongly in those countries!!
@@rkyrkrdo I agree with that.
