Mamidikaya Pappu / Mango Dal !! Tasty South Indian Dal!!

  • This video shows how to make mamidikaya pappu which translates into mango Dal. This is a very delicious recipe very popular in Andhra cuisine with the tangy taste of raw mango in dal or lentils.
    Ingredients
    Raw mango 1
    water 11/2 cups
    Tuvar dal 1/4 cup
    Moong dal 1/4 cup
    Turmeric powder a pinch
    Green chillies 2
    salt to taste
    Oil 1 tbsp
    Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
    cumin seeds 1/4 tsp
    ginger 1 tsp
    curry leaves a few
    garlic 2-3 cloves
    green chillies 2
    dry red chilli optional
    coriander leaves 1 tbsp

    I made this dish today Amma..Thanks a lot.. Ofcourse I miscalculated the amount of salt.. Since due to some restrictions since I can't taste the food while cooking till it's actually served on plate, it was little sour.. But it's a learning process.. next time it might come out better....Thanks a lot for sharing this with us.. Namaste

      Not an issue , when we make for naivedya also we dont taste but no worries . It is not enough if we now how to prepare a dish we should also know how to repair it ! Add some thick tamarind juice and give it a boil next time if it has more salt

    It is mid night when I found this video. Too bad now I have to wait until morning to ask mom to make it. This is one of my favourites. Also fried chillies (challa mirapakayalu in Telugu) makes the best accompaniment.

    Tasty recipe...
    In west Bengal we call Mango as 'Aam', so we call it 'Aam Dal'...but our preparation is sweet and sour in taste...with tampering of only mustard seed and red chilli...

    Super Mam. We love this mango Dal. We generally prepare with toordal only. This combination with ooramirapakayalu (dried curd mirchi) will be yummy. Iam from Andhra.

    Thanks a lot again for the nice dish...Nice variation from the regular daal...Could you kindly advice how to store Daal(Toor, Moong etc)..Rice..Aval(Poha) etc...Since I stay alone my consumption is less but after some time small
    Insects come in that...it becomes difficult to clean or it's a pity that I have to kill them...I infact close the lid properly but don't know why they come...Thanking you..🙏

    I love this! Even we make this Mam n we call it maavinakayi saaru.... we pressure cook mango n chillies separately n then grind them.... And then add it to our dal n temper it with mustard and cumin seeds n lots of hing 🤪 in ghee..... My mouth is watering.... will try ur version too Gita Mam... Thank you 🙏🏻
