    Hey there, I'ts no surprise that the longer microphone sounds worse than the shorter one, because the longer the shotgun mic is the more sound it rejects from the sides, the thing is inside a room, specally a small one, you have a lot of reflections from the side which are cancelling your own voice that is going around the room. That's why professionals usually prefer using pencil condenser microphones on interiors and longer shotguns on the outside. Try both of them outside and you'll probably notice that the sound will be more crisp on the 6060L.

    The 6060L is designed to be used for exterior recordings. You are getting obvious phasing issues because you are using it in a small untreated room. The 6040 sounds better in this case but it's not a fair comparison. The 6060L is meant for longer distance recording, to isolate the voice and is generally used for exterior dialogue to exclude unwanted ambient, off axis sound. It's like using a sniper rife inside.

      Hei, I think you understand this better, will 6060L good for asmr cooking video? I am still weighing between 6060 and 6060L. Thank you

      @@dwinastove139 If you are shooting indoors in an enclosed space, you don't really need a shotgun mic. The echo of your voice will create what's called phase shift in the shotgun mic and it can sound strange and muffled. For indoor simply use a cardiod pencil mic and you will have better sound. Shotgun mics like the 6060 and 6060L are better outdoors. That being said, as shotgun mics go, I am really disappointed with my Boya 6060L because it has bad Ambient sound rejection and quite a lot of self noise. This in addition to it not being too sensitive means you will have to crank up your mic input level in the recorder/camera and this results in quite a bit of mic noise and a high noise floor. So, in my opinion, something like a Behringer C2, or a T Bone Sc140 from Thomann (ordered from their site in Germany) is better value and will provide better value than the Boya. I purchased the Sc140 and use it in most of my work. I find it is even better in most cases outside with incredibly low noise.

      @@fieldpictures1306 Thank you for your reply. Im not going to talk during shooting my video, I was planning on just recording the food cutting, sizzling when frying, and squeezing food sounds. Maybe crunching food.
      I live near a busy road so motorcycle noise is really a problem. Will the pencil mic do better for my needs? thanks

    • @fieldpictures1306
      @fieldpictures1306 Před rokem +1

      @@dwinastove139 The best way to deal with that type of noise is to get the mic as close as possible to the sound you are recording. The alternative for food sounds is to use what's called a plant mic. With this you simply hide a mic close to the source in a vase of flowers or some kitchen equipment so the camera can't see it. That way it can be really close to the sound and exclude the exterior noise. If you're no recording voice you can use a cheaper mic. mic

    • @TubersFunFam
      @TubersFunFam  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi there, the 6040 needs power so you will need to use a phantom power to use it. The 6060l can be use with a phantom power or with a AAA battery so if you use a AAA battery you can buy a cable with a 3.5mm jack at the end and use it on your camera but in my opinion is always better to use a phantom power, I think BOYA have one to connect to your camera although I don’t now if is compatible with all cameras. Please fell free to ask if you have more questions. Thanks for watching. Stay tuned always reviewing new microphones. Stay safe

Can can you recommend sir betweem the boya bm-6040 and boya bm-6060? Or are there any mic you can recommend same price as the boya.?
