Hi Jonathan. Thanks very much for your excellent question. We will take it into consideration for a future episode of Voice Lessons to the World! Thanks for your support! :)
Excellent. Glad to hear it brought some clarity to your work!
OMG YOU JUST BLEW MY MIND! When I was very young my sisters always told me my voice sounded too nasal, so I desperately tried singing without nasal resonance only to found I was still nasal. "But I'm not letting any air through my nose!" I protested. I've had voice lessons too when I was a preteen, yet that was still never really addressed (probably because it was less a problem in my head voice, and I've been singing with my chest voice more since I embraced being a contralto rather than trying to be soprano). Thank you!!!
We're so glad this episode helped! Great work!!! -NYVC
All one take. Every video. Ive said this on others. But it needs to be appreciated how amazing this is given he has zero slip ups while also being so in depth and informative.

Thanks so much, I never knew nasality is caused by the position of the larynx and doesnt have so much in common with nasal resonance! This makes everything a lot clearer :)
Yes! What people often call "nasality" is actually just brightness! We're glad this helped! -NYVC
Rocky's voice hit me so hard.

Thank you for making these videos. They all really helped me. Justin is a badass btw
We're so glad this helped! -NYVC
Seems like there's a distinct difference between raising your larynx and compressing the larynx which is super important for anyone trying to raise their resonance
Depends on what you mean, Walker! But yes there’s a lot of nuance! -NYVC
Thank you for all your vidéos
You're welcome! Thanks for watching! -NYVC
Thanks man, really helpful 🙏

We're so glad you like them! Thank you Carlak! -NYVC
Damn, your explanation freaking on point with what just happen to my voice. I focused on mix voice with low larynx to open throat and balancing vocal cord closure. But, it's getting hard while i should sing with a lot of power even in the mix! so i tried to sing with my nose, but still maintain my open throat and neutral/low larynx. Then it's improve my voice alot! 😎 and fix my raspy voice a little
Fantastic work, Lia! -NYVC
Beauyiful tutorial!!
Glad you enjoyed it, Kirt! -NYVC

hi justin thanks for been my vocal coach, pleas what will i do to improve my tone in R&b
Thank YOU Alwell for your wonderful support for Justin! We encourage you to send all questions to questions@voicelessonstotheworld.com. Thanks again, we're looking forward to hearing from you!
I went through nearly all your videos. Love it. You're the best. Confused about twang and nasal resonance. Slight twang feels like nasal resonance to me. What's the difference? Watched the twang one too. Still confused
Twang is in the larynx and Nasal Resonance relates to the Soft Palate Liza! - NYVC
Thank you
You’re very welcome Eyes! - NYVC
Lesson No. 2! 😃😃😃
Woohoo! -NYVC
wow that was weird. I didnt catch the name of the person asking the question as the beginning, and it felt like you just spoke directly to me using my name.
Wow! -NYVC
Very helpful -thanks Justin!
Glad this helped! -NYVC
Sir please tell us that how we can prevent nasality during high notes or in normal singing
Hi Pragati! Do you mean true Nasality which is just too much Nasal Resonance, or do you mean nasality as in brightness or Twang? Go ahead and send your answer to Questions@VoiceLessonsToTheWorld.com and we'll send over the right videos for you to watch! -NYVC
Eu te amo Justin como eu queria ter aulas com vc pessoalmente, seu lindo, eu quero aprender controlar a voz e strow bass e whistle.
Justin appreciates your kind words Luciano! Keep up the great work with your singing! -NYVC
fantastic
Thanks AK! -NYVC
Very helpful man, I really appreciate this videos, though they are from years ago. I searched this because I was feeling this vibration in my nose and didn't know if it was nasality or nasal resonance, though it sounded good, and you answered my question. Is too much of nasal resonance a bad thing?
So glad this helped you, Franco! And too much isn't bad, but it's not a pleasing to the ear. A nice balance is good! -NYVC
@@NewYorkVocalCoaching wow. Thank you for answering! Cheers from Argentina.
I was watching Rocky just as I was watching this.
Ha! -NYVC
Hello Justin! Many thanks for your excellent lessons! Let me please ask you one question about resonance: in 2:14 and in 2:19 you sang the same set of notes, but using different areas of resonance. While I can imitate this, I'm not sure HOW exactly this change takes place. Is it due to a different positioning of the vocal cords, of the larynx, or a combination of the two? How do you "direct" the resonance? Thanks!
Hi Dennis! Justin was demonstrating singing with a Soft Palate in a lower position, and a Soft Palate completely lifted and blocking the Nasal Cavity. Now that this is clarified we suggest watching the episode again and it should all make sense! -NYVC
The weeknd has Natural nasal voice and he sing every song in the voice
:D -NYVC
Ive been told that I sound like I'm talking when I try to sing.. I would really like to learn how, but I'm really stumped on where to start. I can already tell you that I do not have a natural vibrato at all and I'm a very shy person when it comes to singing because I never get complimented on my voice.
You should keep singing Paisley! It sounds like the person who told you that doesn't really know what they're talking about. :) Try to shake it off and keep learning how to develop your voice so that you can sing the way you want! And if you'd like to learn vibrato, we have episodes on that! -NYVC
I like your motivation song btw haha
Woo Hoo! -NYVC
dude YOU ARE MY SAVIOR
We're so glad this helped! -NYVC
Revision 1.. for us
:) -NYVC
Thanks. I realize nasal when I talk and then start to sing...!
Great work noticing, Brent! -NYVC
3:09 His voice sounds like Sebastian Bach from Skid Row
😃 -NYVC
Is the sequence of these episodes from beginner up or just random answering questions episodes? Thank you
There is a beginners section, but mostly just answering random questions. If you are looking for lessons from beginners to advance in an order, Justin has a vocal training course: voicelessonstotheworld.com/page/vocal_course -NYVC
And what about baritone singing? My vocal teacher in my choir told me, that to sing i have to push my larynx down, so when Im singing high notes im not squealing, ignoring the fact that i hate being a baritone and being always forced to sing the bas parts (because we dont sing many songs with baritone parts) I just cant hit those high notes, because my voice is too muddy. So going straight to the question, how can i sing high notes without squealing and without making my voice sound too muddy?
I'm confused though, other teachers will tell you to raise the soft palate, such that you eliminate the nasal sound because there will be no air flowing through your nose (your sound should not change when you close your nose with your fingers). Is this opposite of what you are saying?
+Steven H Don't forget to send your questions to Justin at questions@voicelessonstotheworld.com!
He explains this here: czcams.com/video/jNYw5HkWMBk/video.html
So I have a sore throat/cold and an audition coming up, is there any advice you could possibly give for being able to perform in a satisfactorily manner?
Hey there! The show must go on! We hope it went well for you! For anyone else reading this, check out "Singing While Sick" - Quick Singing Tips Ep. 4. -NYVC
Is it normal to have some airflow in my nose during nasal resonance?
too good.
Thanks Rohit! -NYVC
I always focused to nasal resonance for the mix. But, it will sounds nasal if i don't lifting my soft palate on some vowel. I see Bruno Mars doing this.
Please explain about this :D
Hi Sawe! Using a lot of Nasal Resonance is not usually the sound people want. The idea is to moderate the soft palate position and find the spots that sound good and are helpful for technique. -NYVC
I love you so much, Justin Stoney like Leonardo DiCaprio :)))
Did you see the Leo parody Justin did? It's here on CZcams. Check it out. czcams.com/video/7fCHriJOl80/video.html
Much love to you Huy!💙 -NYVC
It's not singing, but what is it called when one plays gradually higher chords (like in the opening theme)?
Do you mean Harmonies? -NYVC
Thanku sir
Thanks for watching, Asha! -NYVC

We're glad it helped you! :D -NYVC
NICE
😃 -NYVC
As i told you earlier that i can't mail. Pls tell me what daily habits should a singer have?
Hi Pragati! We'll add this to the list of questions! In the meantime, check out our episode on diet, Quick Singing Tips- Making Choices As A Singer, and episode 111 "Singers Practice This"! -NYVC
Your lucky being English native speakers. I'm a russian. And you know russians speak without nasal resonance so it's hard for them(I wasn't an exception) to understand what's this and how to do it.
I've just got one more reason to love English.
Thanks for sharing these points Alice! - NYVC
wow holy crap so pro....
Thank you! -NYVC
Came to the start to learn from the wise one
We're so glad you're here RedKane! Welcome! -NYVC
My parents say I sound nasal even if I add a low larynx position to the nasal resonance. They always say to me, "You're singing through your nose again!" despite what position my larynx is in.
Justin says it could be they are hearing a "bright" sound and calling it nasal and may not have anything to do with your nose. Could be twang. Have you seen EP 77 on twang?
I have. Thank you for the reply. That seems to make sense. Love your videos.
Sean O'Donnell It might be a bright sound, like what Justin said. Just plug in your nose when you sing or vocalise - if the sound disappears, it is a "bad nasal" sound, and if it does not, then it is not.
Truthfully, however, I will not be too concerned with the nasal thing - nowadays it is a stylistic choice that can make you more versatile as a singer (unless you are choking or squeezing, which is then something you need to be careful about). Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins, John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul Simon - all great singers with slightly nasal tones.
Timliu92 Sorry man, but I think you got it wrong. Justin says nasality doesn't deal with nasal resonance. So if you plug in your nose you're checking your nasal airflow(therefore your nasal resonance). "Bad nasality" is more about high lyrinx (or an undesidered twang).
