    The story behind this is the eason Prince said he'd do this is he respected Tom Petty and really wanted to do something with him. Jeff Lynn's guitar player didn't want Prince there because he knew he would show him up, Tom Petty called Prince and basically said Fu@k him I want you there. Prince agreed and there's a part in the video where Prince looks over at Tom Petty and smiles because they both knew he was blowing Lynn's gutiar player away.
    Prince also never showed up to rehearsals, he just told Tom Petty "don't worry, I'll be ready".

    • @danielkendrick1083
      @danielkendrick1083 Před 3 lety +13

      I heard about that. I heard it a bit differently, but similar in the conclusion that Prince pretty much buried his foot in Lynne's guitarist's ass on purpose. I was told that in a rehearsal, Lynne's guitarist basically made some disrespectful comments directly at Prince and was very uncooperative. Prince walked out and Petty personally asked him to not to back out of the live performance. Prince told him he'd be there and the rest is what you see here. His solo is by leaps and bounds superior. OBVIOUSLY. I'm pretty sure it's also why he ended it with the symbolic mic drop.

    Great review of what is probably my most favourite live performance and an amazing song written by George Harrison. It's Steve WINwood by the way not WINEwood but you are forgiven as it's nice to see people who have their own favourite musical genre's loving a performance by people outside their favourite genre.. we get to learn about other artists that way and get to find more great music. ;-) The young guy on stage with the dark hair is George Harrison's son Dhani Harrison.. It's nice how he and Tom Petty smile at Prince's incredible performance. This one performance by Prince is off the scale.. makes you fall in love with the guy completely and makes you feel even more devastated that he passed away. What I love about the song is how it has developed over the years from being a typically sounding Beatles song with the sound of that era, to then being adapted with a bit of punch by the Jeff Healey band.. and then George Harrison performed the Jeff Healey version of the song along with Eric Clapton who added the lead guitar solo vibe and then all of that history of the song was then brought together in this one performance where these guys lifted the song again to another level - most particularly by adding the background BAMBADAM..BAMBADAM bad ASS bass rift. So a fantastic start to the song that has the drama of the BAMBADAM! BAMBADAM! BAMBADAM! BAMBADAM! and then we hear stunning melodies, vocals and synced rhythm guitars to the big ending by Prince and this one performance really did elevate him to immortal ROCK GOD status for me. He is also a master composer and song writer and musical genius of the highest order.. and beyond that a style icon, and an all round amazing performer and artist. It takes somebody very special to draw people to them in the way that Prince still does even today. Millions of people absolutely love that 'thing' that 'magical quality' that Prince had and he will definitely be remembered for a very long time to come. Much love to all and thanks for a great review of this performance x

    The greatest talent of their generation all on that one stage! Flawless! Love Dhani Harrison’s smiling at Prince:) I think of the old song, “If there’s a Rock n Roll Heaven...they have one hell of a band!” Jeff Lynn from ELO, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Steve Winwood on 🎹 originally from The Spencer Davis Group before his own solo career. Jeff and Tom were part of a Supergroup with George Harrison called The Traveling Wilburys along with Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan. This performance was to honor George Harrison after he passed from cancer. The young man on acoustic guitar is George’s son. The song was one written and performed by George with The Beatles.

    Someone once asked Eric Clapton what it’s like being the best guitar player in the world. His reply? “Go ask Prince.”

    George Harrison absolutely loved when other artists would perform his songs. He loved sharing his music with other people and he loved seeing what they changed or added. If old georgie had been there that night he would have been having the time of his bloody life seeing prince bring the fucking roof down in that music hall. You could see his son dhani was just in awe of what prince was doing.

    The 'Traveling Wilburys', Bob Dylan^ Jeff Lynne^, Roy Orbison*, George Harris*, Tom Petty*....
    Dhani looks exactly like George, Dhani's daddy, a doppelganger of young Beatles' George....
    The musical royalties that Dhani has been around in Dhani's life, still, Dhani can barely keep the control of not star-strucking-out, also Dhani is keeping up & heard in guitar talent....
    And of course, Prince* came in as the closer of an all-time, all-star team, always been clutch....
    ^still alive, *passed away before after
