For me, one of my biggest issues is how long it takes to expand your furniture catalogue. Having played for around a year and still not being close to a full catalogue is something that really deters me from decorating at all.
I just finished the main story and have barely decorated 🥺
As someone who also has been playing this game since day one, I also feel the same way and agree with everything you've said! Especially about the lack of symmetry and how hard it is to collect all the items! This was a fantastic review! I think new potential players will find this incredibly useful!
Thank you for this review! Was looking for a more recent review (past few months not past few years) and you were the perfect person! The gold edition went on sale for nearly the original base game price so I felt like it only makes sense.. you basically get the expansion for free so it seems worth it to me! I appreciate you talking about pros and cons.
I'm really glad it was useful in any way to you! I saw that it went on sale recently and was recommending it to a lot of people for that price. Especially with the recent Monsters Inc. update which has been pretty fantastic!

Excellent, well-balanced video. The Switch version has come a long way crashes-wise, but the decorating is still a real pain. Excited to watch you play the update and DLC!
How is the Switch version now? I know someone interested in getting this on Switch, but I've been hearing mixed info about the switch release.

Blindly bought it last night and played 14 hours straight... encountered some bugs but holy hell, this game is addicting. Better than Animal crossing imo.. everything is pleasant, no bad music grating on you. I hate when NPC press me tho.. trying to fish and goofy be all in my personal space. I love this game so far, especially since I'm not someone who gets bothered by stuff like bugs. Story has been so good so far, Mickey is about to delete... dark. The art style is what got me to buy it... BEAUTIFUL game, my character is so beautiful.. love the clothes

I think what’s even more disappointing than putting it behind a pay wall is the fact that the new expansion didn’t come with new items for the store! I could cry 😢
I didn't even think about that but YES. They should have added a ton of new items with the expansion :T
I do love DDV but I have to mention the biggest design flaw I see in this game. When decorating indoors, there are loading screens between rooms. In all the MMO's and cozy games I play I have never seen such a bad disappointing decision. I no longer decorate indoors, everything I do is outdoor decorating, You will quickly get bored with the loading screen house.
As a Switch player on DDV, I will say it is the most limiting way to play, but they definitely have fixed a lot of the bugs that were in the game since early access launch, is it completely smooth and bug free now? Obviously not, but it is a much better experience, for me at least. And I agree that decorating on Switch can be hell, but it's actually a lot faster if you play in handheld mode and use the touchscreen, again, for me anyway. Also, I agree with pretty much everything you said here.

Is the game worth it before buying the dlcs? I cant bring myself to spend 40 dollars if the game isnt fun without the dlcs! The dlcs alone is 30 dollars
I really want dreamlight valley but i refuse to get it on principle. If companies realize they can leave things behind a pay wall like this. Why wouldnt they? And i think its our duty to fight as consumers. Not everyone can afford a expensive game and expensive add ons. I think games should be accessible to everyone. And i think corperations and companies greed knows no bounds. Seriously their becomeing a caracature at this point. Get any gif of mr krabbs going money money money THATS IT thats them
I agree on the pacing. It makes it very easy to play the game without stressing out over missing things. Well, except for the star path events but they still give you plenty of time to do those.
Honestly, I never understood people who stress about the star path. I never rush it and always finish it with time to spare!
I have it on the playstation and the switch. After the current update being locked behind a pay wall I decided to stick to only the switch

Personally, I would say yes!! The expansion adds tons to the game. I was almost overwhelmed when it first dropped!

Would love to try this game out on my Game Pass account, but will be getting the Gold edition on Steam for Christmas.
Kinda afraid that if I do play it on Game Pass it might create an account that buying the gold edition and playing it from a different site may screw up what I'd be getting when I purchase it again. Don't want to spend $70 and it goes poof because the game insists my initial Game Pass play-thru is the only one the game will recognize.
Don't want to buy it on the Game Pass site because they have a real problem updating games compared to Steam, and if I ever unsubscribe I may lose even my purchased games.
Oh yeahhh not sure how it would work with Gamepass;; But hopefully you can hold out until Christmas! Just a week away :)
Omg the furnitures!! That kinda is the reason why I mostly use the same objects to decorate since it’s a) really hard to get stuff and b) most of it is just bad. I am always to excited to check out the shop but most of the time I’m just disappointed
Yeahhh the rng is not great. At least now with multiplayer though we can visit friends' shops!
Ugghhh the villagers popping into frame in camera mode is the WORST. I wish it was more like the ACNH DLC where you can pick them up and move them wherever you want for your HHP photos.
On another note... I'm a Switch player, and decorating mode with a stylus is a flippin game changer. It might be the one thing the Switch version has over PC.
Oh! Good to know about the stylus. I'll be honest, I never play my Switch in handheld mode because I'm too clumsy and paranoid hahah
I like DDLV but there is way too many bugs and some that have never been fixed. Decorating is not that good because there is no snapping in game and nothing is centered. The main story feel as though it as been left with many loose ends. I feel since it as not gone free to play all the items that players got before release should come round again but i don't think they will. As i said i like the DLC but i feel it is not worth the price. Oh and the mini game is ok for those who want to play it but for those who dont want to play mini games should be able to be turned off because it looks very messy with the chess board above all the villages now. Lack of decorations, and a lot of the houses that they have added do not fit in with anything. I purchased main game and all editions and the dlc and played over 1,000 hours
I never thought about the chessboard icons above the characters' heads but now that you mention it it is annoying lol
I have lacked joy from the game for a few months now it made me stop playing. And while I have almost 500 hours of game time I'm still pondering on whether or not to spend the money on the new chapter.

In some ways, yes. But I'd compare it more to Stardew than AC.
